jbrunson Report post Posted September 6, 2015 Just bought our first "New to us" 1996 Beaver Monterey. We made a bee line home, emptied out the ttt and headed to our favorite USACOE park. One by one, we are checking systems. Is there anything particular we should be sensitive to just now?
wolfe10 Report post Posted September 6, 2015 Yes, the "care and feeding" of a diesel is different. Two upcoming events IN YOUR AREA that are an excellent learning experience for diesel owners: http://www.dieselrvclub.org/page-1766837 Rally in the Pines Diesel RV Club with three 1/2 day technical sessions-- not how to, but what needs to be done to maintain a diesel motorhome. Not a gear head thing. Rally in the Pines Start26 Feb 2016 12:00 PM End02 Mar 2016 10:00 AM LocationLake Pines RV Park & Campground, Midland, GA (near Columbus) And, the FMCA Convention in Perry GA: http://www.fmca.com/conventions-64/perry-2016.html

jbrunson Report post Posted September 8, 2015 So what about the seminars at the FMCA rally? I am somewhat of a hands on guy; partially due to financial necessity and partially due to being a "tech" kinda guy. What subjects are covered? Seems like if I drive this beast thru ATL why ever would I need a driving class?? Talk about trial by fire... We made it Thru about half the coach this weekend; very pleasantly surprised at the electrical documentation that was passed along.

manholt Report post Posted September 8, 2015 Jbrunson, Congratulations on your "new to you coach"! Are you a member of FMCA? Carl
jbrunson Report post Posted September 8, 2015 Will definitely join FMCA after I recover from this Ad-Valorem and Tag purchase! Need to draw another payday first. Looks like the Perry Ga. thing might be the one for us... I really like that "Look ten years younger in ten minutes" thing!
JustCruzzin Report post Posted September 9, 2015 Congrats on the new coach, new toys are always fun. Enjoy it to the fullest.
jbrunson Report post Posted December 11, 2015 OK so I am still looking at these agendas.... after dealing with multiple issues and much more research, it appears that I will be much more "Hands on" than others... I am extremely thirsty for information from another diy er that maintains something very similar to my coach. I have questions about this magnum chassis and some of the exotic systems it employs ~ like hydraulic over hydraulic brakes--- I don't have any major issues identified at this time... just having trouble finding expierenced hands that are not in the exact opposite end of the continent... wolfe10 Report post Posted December 11, 2015 I will be doing three 1/2 day in-depth maintenance seminars on diesel pushers very near you in Columbus GA February 26- March 2 for the Diesel RV Club Rally. http://www.dieselrvclub.org/event-2011388 http://www.dieselrvclub.org/resources/Documents/RallyinthePinesActivities1.pdf BTW, very familiar with hydraulic over hydraulic disk brakes-- had them on last coach and the current one. And their "care and feeding" is a little different than air brakes. But it is a very good system. Heck the Boeing 747 has hydraulic over hydraulic brakes stopping just under a million pounds from a lot faster than we drive! Brett
