  1. The newer (2008, I believe) Jeep Wrangler/Rubicon models are all towable with the transfer case in neutral and the transmission in first (standard) or park (automatic) and the key in the off/lock position, key removed, doors locked.

The transmission software issue is with the Jeep Cherokee models only.

I've successfully towed my 2006 Jeep Wrangler automatic with the transfer case in neutral, the auto trans in park and the key in the unlocked position for 6000+ miles. I'm currently at 2500+ miles on a trip towing the 2014 Jeep as described above with no problems.

I would suggest joining the Jeep Wrangler forum for more info than you could possibly ever need.

  2. The fueling pumps in the truck aisles fill very fast. If you're experiencing over flow its most likely caused from the high flow rate of the pump. I usually keep the automatic nozzle set for the slowest (lowest) flow rate and usually know when I'm nearing full so I'll slow it down even more.

  3. I'm on a trip now and towed our 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport over 2000 miles without disconnecting the battery. I place the transfer case in neutral and the transmission in park with the key off, doors locked and the key in my pocket. My tail lights are separate bulbs and I have the M&G Engineering braking system therefore I'm not using any voltage from the Jeep battery. Also, I've towed as long as three days, 600 miles without ever starting the Jeep. My manual doesn't say anything about disconnecting the battery.

I also have a 2006 Jeep Wrangle Unlimited Sport that I sometimes tow. I need to leave the key in the unlocked position for the steering wheel to be unlocked. I've towed it over 6000 miles without any battery issues.

If you are a member of the Jeep Wrangler Forum, you will notice comments regularly about the Jeep owners manuals being inaccurate on various subjects.

The most important thing: Now that you're a Jeep owner you need to remember to wave when meeting another Jeep...don't offend us by not being friendly. You'll soon find out, being a Jeeples is almost being in a cult.

  4. I was going to suggest a call to Freightliner also but then realized they are going to tell you what you don't want to hear.

My 2008 XCS chassis hitch is rated for 10,000# with a 1000# tongue weight. It is a weight distribution hitch. What is the GCWR for your chassis? I think you would exceed tongue weight, tow weight and GCWR. As Brett suggested, find a home engineer to "design" a hitch because I don't think you will find any other engineer to sanction all your desires.

  5. I know that this might have been brought up before. But sorry I can' t remember the man's name. I bought a Class A motorhome from Camping World. I had a small problem and had to call them 6 to 7 times. The only time that they called me back quickly was when I told the that I needed to give them my credit card. I guess money makes them move. While calling Camping World I also tried to call Winnebago. There to I had the same success as with Camping World. I would like to write both companies and voice my displeasure ,but do not who to address my concerns to where it will do the most good. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did Camping World resolve your issue? I understand being frustrated not having phone calls returned in a timely manner but it happens. At least they called you back, just not as quickly as you would like. My doctor never calls back as quickly as I would like for him too either and I don't know who to write.

Google Camping World for contact information.

I just Googled Winnebago Industries and found that Randy J Potts is the CEO.

If you go to the Winnebago website, you can get contact info on the entire management team.

As far as the rat issue goes, when you leave a vehicle at any dealer, garage, tire dealer, etc and sign a service repair order you have released them of any liability issues. Read the fine print and you will see its in everyone of them.

I hope you feel better after writing your letters.

  6. Carl,

Just a minor correction: INTO is not International in the sense of "over-seas".

INTO is chapters whose compass goes beyond geographic areas of the country. Brand chapters, service chapters, etc.

Here is a list of the 129 International chapters:

    http://www.fmca.com/index.php?option=com_fmcachaptersearch&view=list&Itemid=

We are from Texas and belong to two International Chapters.

Dang, Brett, and all this time I was thinking Texas was considered international by some! :o

  7. One week ago today, Saturday, I drove straight through Atlanta on I 20 connecting to I 85. It was raining and traffic was moderate. I drove through Cincinnati on I 75 connecting to I 71 yesterday morning around 10 without any issues. I routinely drive I 45 and I 10 straight through Houston rather than taking the outer loops.

Driving a 38ft and towing a 4 door Jeep JKU.

I also time my trips through large metropolitan areas to avoid rush hours.

Personally, I would drive straight through on a Sunday afternoon if you're driving I 75 south to Tallahassee, but I would take the bypass if going I 85 to Tallahassee.

Drive whichever route you feel most comfortable with and travel safe - always.

  8. Yes...there are differences in the quality of glass. OEM vs aftermarket. The problem with glass replacement insurance coverage is that unless you have a specific rider on your policy, insurance will only pay for an after market windshield if the vehicle is more than 2-3 years old. OEM windshields are considerably more expensive than aftermarket. There are also differences in installation practices.

When it comes to glass, you will get what you pay for if you're working with a reputable company.

  9. You need to use the weight of the truck loaded like it will be when towed. Full fuel tank and any items you will be carrying. Example, some may load a four wheeler or golf cart in the bed bed of the truck. The best thing is load the truck the way you think you will tow it and get it weighed. I'm confident you're going to need the 10,000 lbs tow bar.

Next question: is your motorhome rated to tow that much weight? I'm not talking about the hitch rating either.

  10. Thanks for the follow up, Ivy.

You indicated the rubber hoses were replaced, did they also replaced the metal fuel hose? It could be plugged. I've seen a short piece of rubber hose used to make an odd bend in fuel lines, is there a kink?

    Keep us updated please.

  11. I was at the Freightliner Service Center in Gaffney earlier this week and there were several owners having alignments done. The key for a correct Freightliner chassis alignment is the ride height must be within spec.

  12. BTW, Ivy, has the Workhorse chassis brake recall been completed? Have you recently changed the brake fluid? Are the tires less than 7-8 years old, regardless of the tread?

I'm only mentioning this because low mileage on older motorhomes raises several red flags.

  13. 11 year old rig and 11,000 miles. Have you changed the fuel filter recently? How fresh is the fuel? How often is it started and driven? 1000 miles per year is not much which suggests the gas tank could have trash, water, etc. Bio fuels have a tendency to destroy rubber fuel lines and becomes unusable after just a few weeks.

  14. Interesting you mention tucking in behind a truck. I've driven in some hard rain the last two days and yesterday noticed how hard it was to see so many of the trucks (really the trailer) in front of me because they are white, even with their lights on. I estimated 200' was about it. For me, that is about as close as I want to be tucked behind a truck in bad weather.

I had a Country Coach towing a Chevy Silverado pass me yesterday in a hard rain. I was going 55 and estimated him going 70. We saw three major wrecks between Vicksburg and Birmingham and my guess they were all speed related. Spins.

I realize we're getting off topic and I'll probably get a  .
