One final word about GPS. You can depend on them being right over 98 percent of the time and the other five percent you really should go with your 'gut' feeling and not turn into a river or a corn field because you are going to mess your coach. Another advantage to having a GPS is things that you can ''set'' your gps to notify you when your are close to them. This is very handy in a new city or location and you are looking for a casino or a ferry. My Tom Tom has this feature and we set it on ''campgrounds'' within one mile of our route and it ''honks'' when we get within one mile of a campground. You can touch the screen and tell it to ''find'' the campground and it will direct you to the campground. It does not locate state or federal campgrounds and I feel this is a flaw in the system but I guess the commercial camp grounds kick in a buck to get their name on the poster. Anyhow, the GPS is one of the greatest things I have seen concerning what it will do for such a little bit of cost. I would suggest you do like me and buy a cheap one to start with. If you like it and want more features go the downs and spend the bucks on one with all the bells and whistles you can afford. Enjoy your camper. Go see Gods creations and find the beautiful world he has created for us to enjoy on our own terms and our own time. Dont be afraid to ''SAY HELLO'' to your fellow campers. They are the greatest people in the world. this advise is free......... Seajay the sailor man

Towing a 1992 Tracker on a dolly
seajaycecil@yahoo.com replied to windchaser's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
YOU DO NOT NEED A DOLLY......... Your tracker will tow just fine with four wheels on the ground. I logged over a hundred thousand miles on one before it died ...YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE A AUX BREAKING SYSTEM FOR THE TRACKER EITHER Seajay the sailor man -
Surge Protector Necessary?
seajaycecil@yahoo.com replied to seajaycecil@yahoo.com's topic in Electrical
Ok guys........ I finally got down to Camper World and bought me a Surge Protector for the old banger... I got a 30 amp one that I will hard wire inside my compartment. I figured that if I ever went to a BIG DIESEL PUSHER I should have money enough to go the downs and get a 50 amp unit for my nice new coach.. Many thanks for all the advise concerning this and I owe a bunch of you guys dimes and I will pay you the next time I see you. Now it will be my luck that someone will steal the whole ''dang'' coach and take my new surge protector and all my other ''stuff'' too.. such is life..... God bless our Troops and bring them home safe... Seajay the sailor man ..... -
It aint none of my business but I suggest this. I found Tom Tom GPS units on sale a ''wally world'' for ninety nine dollars. I bought one and I would not be without it. A compass is fine and very handy item but the GPS unit will take you back to your campsight, in the rain, in the dark and on an un-fimular road when you should have skipped that last beer or mixed drink . They are well worth the money and I would not leave home or a campsight without mine.... Seajay the sailor man. If you use this advise you will have to pay me ten cents and I will collect the next time I see you...

We have a Tom Tom and we love it. If I could not buy another one, I would not take a grand for this one. Here are a couple ''situations'' you can get into using GPS. New roads........... Sometimes there is ''road construction'' and major changes in our interstate road system that is not even on your maps much less updated on your GPS unit. We have had occasion to where our Tom Tom said ''turn right'' and there was no road there. We have had situations where we were on ''new construction'' and our Tom Tom showed us in the middle of a green field. Update you GPS. often and keep a good ''hard copy'' map handy for emergencies. Back roads ....... Some of these are not ''exactly right'' but that is the fun of rv,ing..... Once our Tom Tom screamed.....'' YOU ARE FREEKIN' LOST AND I GOT NO FREEKIN' IDEA WHERE YOU ARE AND I DONT CARE''......... then it turned its self off and would not restart for ten minutes..... the greatest advantage you have in a GPS. is that you can set your present campground as HOME and then drive all over ''heck'' and when you want to go back to your campground, just set your GPS for HOME and it will take you right back to your campground....... Very handy in San Fran or New Orleans, or New York, and other Big cities that you can get lost in..... Word to the wise. by law all overpass bridges must be at least 13 feet from the road bed to the bridge truss. You may on occasion find in some small towns an old railroad tressel that is lower than 12 feet because it was built when Heck was a pup and there were four million buffalo roaming the west. There is one in Greensboro, Nc and another one in a small town up in ''SOMEWHERE'' USA but i cant remember where right now. These are usually well marked in advance with ''LAST WARNING'' signs....... I find the biggest problem I encounter on back roads is low tree branches hanging over the road. If you use this advise you will have to pay me ten cents and I will collect the next time I see you..... Seajay the sailor man

Wayne........ You even have me confused and I am a SAILOR and Sailors know everything. (sometimes) Ok, It sounds to me like you got way too many ''things'' plugged into too many ''things''...... I agree with Norris. If all you need to run is the 'refer' just unplug all these ''things'' and take a drop cord and plug it into an outlet in the house and the plug it directly into the back of the ''refer'. You should be able to get to this plug by simply removing the outside grill ''thingie'' on the side of your coach. The only other solution I can offer is to ''DONT BE SO CHEAP AND MOOCH OFF OF YOUR BROTHER''.... lol .... Go to a regular campground and pay the tole and invite your brother over for steaks and drinks stop making R.V. type people look cheap...... lol ..... there is a ten cent charge for this advise... you can pay me the next time you see me .... Seajay the sailor man ps. I finally got me one of those voltage regulator, surge protector, ''thingies'' that plugs in and protects all your stuff in the coach. $280.00 shot to heck .... (its hard for a Sailor to say ''heck'')

Towing a 1992 Geo Tracker
seajaycecil@yahoo.com replied to windchaser's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
Jim...... I towed a 92 Geo Tracker a little bit less than a ''JILLION'' miles. It followed me all over the USA and to Alaska and all over Canada. I think it now has 182,000 miles on the clock and it finally ''died'' in 04.... I was told that the fuel pump is in the tank and the fuel pump probably dropped dead and the car quit running. Ok.... understand this.. I, Seajay the sailor man, am an EXPERT when it comes to towing a Tracker so this info will cost you ten cents and you have to pay me the next time you see me. One. The tracker is an excellent ''toad''. It pulls well and it will not affect your gas mileage because it is light. TWo. Your tracker needs to be the following... Straight drive. Four or five speed gear box. It needs to be four wheel drive...... Three. When you set it for towing here is what you must do. A. Be sure the car IS NOT IN FOUR WHEEL DRIVE.......Place this shifter in ''N'' (neutral) (front hubs unlocked) B. Put the GEAR BOX (five speed) IN NEUTRAL...... C. Put the ''key switch'' in the first notch (ACCESSORY) so that the steering wheels are free to ''track'' your coach. You will hear your ''key reminder, dinger thingie'' but your dash lights will not be on''.......... Now wiggle the steering wheel and see that the front wheels are actually free to ''track';...... D. RELEASE THE HAND BREAK. (this sounds stupid but I have left black marks in a few places) E. Stop about every two hundred miles and start the Tracker and let it run for a couple of minutes. This lubes the trannie and recharges the battery and gives you a chance ''pass gass'' in private ....lol..... F. I advise stone guards (the plastic thingies) over the head lights and I also advise the magnetic tail lights for the turn and break lites on the Tracker. You will not need axillary breaking for the Tracker because it is so light. G. DO NOT TRY TO BACK UP VERY FAR WITH THE TRACKER ATTACHED. The only way to ''attempt backing up'' is to put someone in the Tracker and let them counter steer and be ready to honk the horn or scream their head off when the Tracker goes nutts ........ Your Tracker is a fine little auto and it will serve you well as a ''toad''. There is ample room behind the seat for stowing ''stuff'' and room for four in the car. (Mind you, the four or you can not be basket ball players)... It has a nice convertible top for sunny days and the ever present four wheel drive when you want to go roaming where their aint no road. The reason I stopped using mine was that I needed a way to haul a boat so I bought a Ford Ranger with a capp on the bed and I put a rack on top of that so I could haul my Port a Boat. I can also haul more ''stuff'' in the back of the pickup but I cant haul four people now unless two want to ride ''red neck style'' in the back of the truck with the other ''stuff''............... Remember this .... WHEN YOU NEED GOOD,, SOUND, WELL THOUGHT OUT ADVISE..... GET A SAILOR.... WHEN YOU WANT TO KILL SOMETHING........ GET A MARINE........... (lol @ Wayne) Seajay the sailor man ..... ps. you owe me ten cents. You can pay me the next time you see me..... -
Every King Needs a Scepter When Sitting on His Throne

Tom........ you are a mess. You remind me of Me. If I was you I would be charging at least ten cents for anyone to use this idea. You have solved the problem of the age and you will save many lives and prevent asphyxiation of many a good man and some ladies, including Willa, also. Seriously, is there any way to attach a book, like Playboy or Field and Stream to the handle of this ''scepter'' so that one might hold said scepter between ones knees, while on the thrown, and read articles of information of interest to said King. (cough cough)........ I can see it now ...................... ''HI, I'm BILLIE MESS. I AM HERE TO INTRODUCE THE LATEST AND GREATEST DEVISE FOR MOTOR HOMING. Surge Protector Necessary?
seajaycecil@yahoo.com replied to seajaycecil@yahoo.com's topic in Electrical
Yooooooooh JAck. Thanks for the tip and I O U ten cents for the info. (I'll pay you the next time I see you) I still havent gotten around to purchasing a surge protector yet. Which kind do you recommend to be hard wired to my unit. I have seen them plugged into the service post in camp grounds and then plugged into the coach with the wire going from the box to the service post. I think the ''hard wire'' idea is a good one because it would eliminate the extra plugs and it would make the devise a whole lot less tempting to be ''walked away with'' when you wasnt looking. Gimme some recommendations on a hard wired unit please. Seajay the sailor man -
FMCA Community Forum chapter?
seajaycecil@yahoo.com replied to Xplorer's topic in Chapters, Chapter Rallies
Willa and I would love to be in a ''chapter,'' but, like others have stated, I am not sure we would be good members because of our ''travel schedule." We have a tendancy to take off at a the drop of a sinker and go where the fish are biting and stay for a week or so. Sometimes we get the need for ''windshield time'' and just get in the coach and leave for the mountains for a few days. If we were in a ''group'' I definitely would want to be a part of the group and support the meetings, etc. I kinda go along with Wayne's suggestion/idea. Since we are all mobile, perhaps we could post some sort of schedule of our proposed travel with ''locations'' along the way and make arrangements to ''meet on the trail," as it were. For instance, Willa and I plan to head up to Canada this summer. We will go up thru Niagra Falls and cross into Canada and go to Ontario and Quebec and ramble around for a few weeks and then come back down thru Minnesota and then back home. After I sell some property we will head for Las Vegas in late September for a ''stay'' and then on to California to visit (mooch off of) friends for a couple of weeks. All this is still ''in the works'' but this is a general plan. When we ''firm up'' our plans I would be glad to post our schedule on here somewhere and up date it as we travel. Using this, you guys could be careful and totally avoid us or simply let us know and we would be glad to meet you on the road for a campfire and some good fellowship. Here is what I would do. If you come thur North Carolina on the Blue Ridge parkway and you do not mind dry camping, there is a campground at Linvell Falls area south of Boone/Blowing Rock that is really neat. It is 6 dollars for Golden Age Pass and you usually can get a spot during the week unless its fourth of July or Labor Day weekend. If you will e-mail me and if we can schedule it, I will reserve the campspots and we will meet you on the Blue Ridge Parkway for a couple nites of camping. This is an open invitation to anyone in FMCA, but bear in mind that I may need a little time to arrange for the camp sights. My e-mail address is seajaycecil@yahoo.com. When you e-mail me, give me your cell number and I can call you direct and let you know the arrangements. Maybe each of us could do this in our ''home states'' and we could arrange a meeting like this. Seajay the sailor man -
Air compressor onboard motorhome?
seajaycecil@yahoo.com replied to seajaycecil@yahoo.com's topic in General Discussion
Ok guys. Looks like I owe a lot of dimes again. All the good info will be considered and I will make a final decision before me and Willa hit the road again. I really appreciate your input on this and its to use your knowledge to solve a problem without doing like Wayne and buying something that didn't work. (lol) I guess he could always use the ''useless one'' for a paper weight or a tire chock......... Anyhow, thanks again guys I will use your suggestions .... And a special thanks to my Marine friend Wayne. Its good to see that he can read big words and come to logical conclusions to resolve a simple problem ...... (Most Marines just want to shoot the problem to solve it) Seajay the sailor man ps.. Dont be afraid to ask me for your ''dime'' the next time you see me and if I deny that ''I am me'' you might get your dime from Willa....... -
Ok all you ''SNART PEOPLE'' ....... Here we go again ...... All of you always check your tires before you hit the road and I am sure each and every one of you keep those tires up to the recommended p.s.i. for road travel safety and good fuel mileage. I also check the tires when I hit the road for a ''big turnaround'' our west somewhere. I have a air compressor in my basement and a really long hose on a reel. Here is my situation. You and I know that finding an ''air pump'' when you need to gauge up a tire is sometimes like finding the abominable snow man in Death Valley. We all know that Flying ''J''usually has air but sometimes Flyin ''J'' is a long way off and we got a tire that is 15 pounds light. I would like some advise on purchasing a small 110-volt air compressor that will fit into one of my basement compartments. It would be simple to plug in when I am on shore power and when I am out ''boondocking'' I have a generator that would power it easily. I have looked at compressors with built in tanks that go to 100 psi. I have looked at compressors without tanks that go to 120 psi. So far all I have gotten is confused about the best thing to buy. Here is your challenge ... Tell me which air compressor you haul with you in your coach to ''air up'' your coach tires when nothing else is available. Tell me if you dont see the need to haul a compressor and you just use those ''cans of air'' with the foam inside. Tell me if you have seen a really good onboard air compressor and you are just to cheap to buy one. Tell me where to find a really good cheese burger for less than four dollars ....(oops skip this) Here is my deal... I will pay ten cents for really good advise concerning this air compressor thing. I will pay five cents for really good ideas that may be un-tested but sound logical .... I will give a dill pickel and crackers for dumb looks and drooling ..... I will further promise on pain of death or a really bad head cold that if I start hauling a air compressor that I will offer ''FREE OF CHARGE TO ANYONE IN NEED OF HOT AIR'' (like my Marine friends Pogey and Wayne) good 120 psi air from my onboard air compressor. Paint-on roof covering
seajaycecil@yahoo.com replied to seajaycecil@yahoo.com's topic in General Discussion
The item I found is Minnesota Roofing & R.V. Specialities. I saw it advertised in FMCA magazine in the advert dept in the back of the book. It seems no one has ever used this product or anything like it to re-cover their rubber roof on their coach. The adver really looks good but so did the advert for the Edsel car. I will wait a while longer and hope someone has used it or a similar product and can give me a ''first hand report'' on how successful this stuff is. It really looks good as they sent me a sample of the product Maybe someone will see this and answer us ....... After all, I am offering ten cents for good information on this. Seajay the sailor man .... -
Good looking ride Pogey. I am truly happy for you. You know that I own several ''classic cars'' and they are a source of real joy and pride for Willa and myself. It's just kind of a shame we didnt have these ''girl catchers'' when were young blades full of vim vigor and ''other stuff'' . We would have probably killed ourselves but the undertaker would have had a real problem getting the ''smile'' off our faces... ....nuff said about that for now.....lol ..... Be safe MARINE....... Your friend .... Seajay the sailor man.....

Gary...... I am totally underwhelmed by your thoughts and your generous ''give back'' concerning amounts owed for your advise on said subject. I will state that your generosity is only under shadowed by your good looks and your reported sexual prowess. I here by take back some of the bad things I have said about you in the past and I can assure you that you are not the scoundrel people have reported you to be, YOU ARE OK IN MY BOOK.. I stand by these and other statements I may or may not have said about you in the past and in the future also. I will contact you later about how much you donated toward the custom paint job. Seajay the sailor man ....

Well shux......... I am truly humbled by all the concern and good advise shown to me concerning my situation of pulling this car. This just goes to prove that if you have a problem (and a lot of dimes) FMCA people will ''step up'' and help you solve said problems with good advise and various points of view concerning said problem. It is good to know that Willa and I are part of an organization that will take their time and experiences concerning our safety and comfort and give their personal advise to help us confront this situation with to keep us safe and happy while traveling this great nation of ours. Many words of thanks to you guys concerning this and I will definitely keep you advised as to the final outcome and resolution to this situation. As of now I am considering the following ..... A 20 foot aluminum ''Texas Rollback'' trailer if they make one like that. An aluminum tool box on the tongue of the trailer to help protect the front of the car and to put ''stuff'' in. Large mud flaps on the rear wheels of the coach and a ''Rock solid'' back flap. An ''equalizer hitch and tension bar to control sway A Prodigy control box for the trailer breaks. Since I owe so many of you dimes for your advise I will state the following ..... If you see a guy with a sign on his 't' shirt saying ''I AM NOT SEAJAY'' then this is not me so you need not try to collect your dime that may be owed to you for advise. After all, I have car payments (60), trailer payments (48), tool box payments (18), mudflap payments (12), equalizer hitch payments (24), and control box payments (12) and payments on other stuff that I shall not mention at this time (lifetime). my e mail address is seajaycecil@yahoo.com if you want to send me pix of your setup. Thanks again guys...... Seajay the sailor man .......... ps. I will check with fleetwood concerning the GVW of my coach and its capacity for towing. I will do all these considerations as to the weight of the car and trailer before going off the deep end. Be safe on the road guys ....

Now I am between a rock and a hard place. I started out figuring I could could get a car dolly and pull the car backwards. this seems like not such a good idea so I abandoned that. Then, I started looking into trailers and advanced to a enclosed trailer to keep the car clean while on the road between here and there..... This may not be the best idea because of the total weight of the car and the trailer combined. OK.... Does anyone out there in FMCA land pull a 24 foot trailer with an auto on it behind a 33 foot Pace Arrow motor home. Mine is a 2000 model with the Tritan V10 engine with a Banks Exhaust system? At present I pull a 04 Ford Ranger ''flatfooted'' with a port a boat on top of the ''capp''. the back of the truck is used for a ''portable basement''. It usually has at least 300 pounds of ''stuff'' in it at any given time. An ourboard motor and gas tank, fire wood, fishing equipment, rocks (we gather them from all over for the rock garden) chairs and all kinds of ''stuff'' that we probably dont need but we cant do without. In this configuration with the pick up I can run with the traffic and the coach climbs hills very well when called upon to do so. In this configuration with the pick up we have logged some seventy thousand miles since 05 on the coach from North Carolina to about anywhere there is a road. We have been to Alaska to Nova Scotia to Florida to California to Utah to Death Valley and to Big Bend in Texas... We have been over the meadow and thru the woods across mountains and deserts without a problem. All things considered, I may just pull the pick up as usual and take a 8 x 10 picture of Willa setting in the ""LUXXOR'' and show it to people when the conversation turns to cars. Anyhow, I am still fumbling with this and I will keep you guys advised as to the outcome and the final decision as to the resolution of this situation. I really appreciate all the input from you guys and it looks like I owe out about half a million dollars in dimes so if you happen to see me and I avoid you or I say that I am not me its because I probably owe you money for your input. Ill keep you posted ............... Seajay the sailor man.............. at present I am looking into one of those devices that un-hooks the drive shaft on the car and I can put a large stone guard on the tow bar and pull the car flat footed with a cover over the car. This is still under investigation. I really dont want to buy a Diesel because my Pace still has a bunch of life left in it.

Wow this is getting complex. First of all I have hired the accounting firm or ''CATCHUM SKINNUM and RUN'' to handle the complex nature of exactly whom I owe what for advise and services rendered concerning this project. Those of you that are giving good advise will receive a ''letter of promise'' from this accounting firm in the very near future concerning the amounts you are entitled to be paid the next time I see you. Concerning the coach........ I will call Tom Johnson R.V., the people that sold the coach and ask them to determine my towing capability. I shall give them ''hitch'' capacity and the approximate weight of the coach loaded for a trip. I shall determine the exact weight of the car and trailer combination. I shall consider an ''equalizer hitch'' and have one installed as necessary. I shall take your advise concerning the ''tool box'' and use appropriate action. NOTE..... unfortunately the ''sticker'' with the info about the coach came ''unstuck'' from the wall in the coach and I think Willa threw it away or one of dogs used it for a toy. Anyhow, there is a blank place where the sticker use to be. I will find out all pertinent information and keep you guys advised as to my progress. Thanks for all the input concerning this project ...... Seajay the sailor man......

Jim ...... you just qualified for the special ten cent reward as promised by myself in my post. Be it known that I, Seajay the sailor man, will pay on demand the sum of ten cents to Jim for his advise concerning trailer towing.......... I will pay him the next time I see him if he will identify himself.... Ok, I am between a rock and a hard place. I am looking at a 24 foot open trailer to pull the car on. One of the considerations is that I have a ''port a boat'' that I would like to haul with me when we travle and take the car With this longer trailer I can break the boat down and simply slide it under the car or put it against one of the finders and tie it down. I can make me a box for the front of the trailer that will serve two purposes. It will shield the front of the car from stuff thrown up by the tires on the coach and it will be a good place to store my seats and motor for the boat. I am strongly considering a trailer made from aluminum so it will be light and easy to pull. Since I will be pulling this with a 33 foot 'A' class Pace Arrow, should I need a ''special hitch'' of some kind? I dont want the trailer wiggling all over the road .......... remember, If you answer another question, I will owe you another dime. (you could get rich just answering questions) Seajay the sailor man

No problem Wayne. I can dig out the info. One suggestion my friend. We stayed in county parks in Florida last winter. The limit of your stay was two weeks but you could '' drop our'' for two weeks and then come back. One of these parks was E.G. SIMMIONS down on Tampa Bay. If you like water, this is the place to be. They have about one hundred campsights right on the canal and the rest are just across the road from the canal. It is down close to Tampa on the east side of the bay. It is close to a little town called ''REGISPLAT'' or something like that. It is one of those campgrounds that the locals dont advertise. The only ''catch'' is that you cant make reservations but this is good because if you could reserve spots us outsiders would never get in. The solution is to be there when they open the gate. You simply go inside and put your name on a list and when someone leaves, you get their spot. All the sights are Water/Electric only so dump before you go to your sight. County parks are the best kept secret you never heard of. Most are un-advertised and you wont find most of them in your Woodall book either. You have to ask the locals to find them usually.... If you go into one they can usually give you a map to others in the area. They are cheap with big campsights and we prefer to stay at them above anything else. Be safe on the road my friend and if anyone gives you trouble just call on the NAVY and I will ''swoop'' to the rescue.... lol... Seajay the sailor man

Help, my slideout extends while driving.
seajaycecil@yahoo.com replied to fbetenso@xmission.com's topic in Slideouts
Here is a situation I had with my 2000 Pace Arrow, 33 feet long with two slides I had a situation where the bedroom slide out came out of the body of the coach about 6 inches when I went around a sharp curve. I said Shux and found a place on the side of the road to pull over. Upon close inspection I found that the ''pen'' going thru the gear on the end of the electric motor had ''sheared off'' . Upon further investigation I discovered that this was critical to keeping the bedroom slide out ''in'' while traveling. I also discovered that with the pen sheared off, the bedroom slide out would not travel to the closed position (in possition) because the motor power was not transfered to the shaft. I said ''Shux'' again. After a lot of shouting thru the wall at Willa and a lot of pushing by myself we finally got the bedroom slide most of the way back into the body of the coach. I got out my rule and my trusty saw. I measured the length of ''tree'' I would need and did a ''Davy Crocket'' into the big woods and found the appropriate piece of limb and sawed both ends at a slight angel. Back at the coach I tied a piece of rope around the limb and I forced the limb between the wall and the edge of the room inside the bedroom. After some effort I managed to bang the limb all the way to the floor with my trusty hammer. the bedroom slide was flush against the side of the coach and it was ''locked in position'' by the tree limb. The piece of rope is there for handy removal of the limb when I got home. Changing this little ''pen'' was another story. It seems that ther really ''snart'' people at Fleetwood had figured out the very worst place to put this motor/gear arrangement in the whole world. It is in a small compartment under the bedroom on the passenger side of the coach. You can see it but you can not reach it or you can reach it with one hand but you can not look at it at the same time. You have to re-align the holes in the shaft and gear and take a long punch (I made one) and carefully bang out the old pen. I have found that you can take a five millimeter allen wrench cut to about two inches in length and grind off just a little of the octigon points and grind the end to a bullet point, that it will work just fine in this existing hole. You will need pair of long nose vice grips and some luck to get the pen in the gear. You will also need a long punch and a hammer to bang the pen into the hole. I have made this fix on my coach and it works fine. Dont forget to reset the break lever on the back of the motor when you are thur. Also, I went into my workshop and cut two 2 x 4's the exact length needed to ''lock the rooms shut'' if I needed them. I keep them in the backroom claoset and they are labled as to which fits what. Dont forget to put a short length of rope on them so you can remove them when necessary ..... Its a P.I.A. to get them out without the ropes because of the close confinement between the wall and the closet...... I would strongly advise everyone to carry these ''emergency room stops'' because you never know when you might need them and they make good fire wood in an emergency. There will be a ten cent charge if you use this information. You can pay me the next time you see me.... Seajay the sailor man -
Towing trailer behind motorhome
seajaycecil@yahoo.com posted a topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
oK guys, here we go again.... I have been looking at enclosed trailers to put the car in so it wont get dirty when I pull it behind the coach and I have a couple of questions that I just know you can answer for me. 1. Our longest car is 19 feet from bumper to bumper. Concerning this, how long should the trailer be to haul this car? I found one that is 24 feet long and considering I will need to get in front of the car to ''tie down the wheels'' I would assume that I will need one at least this long so I will have some working room between the wall and the front of the car when I tie it down. MUCH ADVISE NEEDED HERE... 2. I see trailers with a ''front access door''. Do I need one of these to help with loading and unloading and tieing the car down ?????????????? MORE ADVISE NEEDED HERE.. 3, I presume that the ''back door'' on these trailers is the ''ramp'' for loading and unloading the car. If so, will I need to get help to lower and raise said door? 4. I presume these car haul trailers come with ''pad eyes''. (tie down thingies built into the floor) (pad eyes is a Navy term) 5. Which one of you guys would like to ''halves'' in this trailer so you can use it when I am not using it? (just kidding) Standard ten cent reward for competent answers. Standard five cent reward for really good guesses that may not be proven. Standard dill pickle and crackers for dumb looks and drooling over the questions. Ill pay you the next time I see you.... Note. If you dont want the money (10 cents) I will give you a ride in the car instead. Your choice... Seajay the sailor man -
Towing custom car on dolly

First of all ..... Gary and Tom legally qualify for the ten cent reward for their info on the ''dolly question''. I have taken it up with my ''review board'' and the ''board'' says that each of these fine people should receive the reward for their opinions and their expert input concerning ''dolly towing'' It is understood that I, Seajay the sailor man, will pay on demand each of these men ten cents upon meeting them whenever and where ever said meeting may occur. It is also understood that if either of these gentleman use, or take advantage of my advise concerning SOAP IN A SOCK or any other chargeable advise so posted by myself that this will offset said debt concerning said advise concerning ''dolly towing'' .... (this is lawyer stuff).... Anyhow. the advise is good and you have raised the problem of dirt, dust, dents, dings, etc etc etc. With that consideration I will look into an enclosed trailer to haul my wife's custom car because if it should get dented dirty, dinged, dusty or otherwise messed up she would probably kill me dead or at least make me sleep on the sofa for a month and a half without any of the ''comforts'' that our ladies afford us during travle.... (nuff said about that...lol....) Thanks again for the advise (anybody know where I can get a good used, cheap, enclosed trailer that will haul a car with a 145 inch wheel base that is 19 feet long?) Ok guys, I need some info about a ''car dolly'' I have bought my wife a custom car and we want to pull it behind the coach. I do not want to go to the expense of putting a drive shaft disconnect on this car. I want to use a dolly. The car is ''rear wheel drive'' and here is my question..... When you put a rear wheel drive car on a car dolly I know you put the ''rear wheels'' on the dolly... Do I set the front wheels straight and use the key to ''lock'' the wheels from turning? Do I ''tie'' the steering wheel with the front wheels straight? Do I just leave the steering wheel lose and let the front wheels ''track'' as they may when I pull the car backwards behind the coach. I am considering a dolly or a trailer and I like the idea of a dolly but I am not sure how well they work with a rear wheel drive car. I will pay ten cents for correct answers or good advise on this problem... I will pay five cents for a good guess that may be correct but un-tried. I will not pay anything for a blank stare and a drool from those of you who do not understand the question but I will give you a dill pickle and some crackers... I will pay you the next time I see you....... Seajay the sailor man....
