  1. Thanks for quick responses. Both working fine in the campground we are in tonight. Hope it continues as we will be here for 2 weeks. If problem continues, Brett, I will try your suggestion when we get home.
  2. I have noticed at some campgrounds lately that when our AC kicks on, it sounds like it is not getting enough power to start. Starts to kick on but the fan doesn't start. If I grab the remote and change the setting from auto to fan (slow or high) it starts right up. Then you can hear the compressor start a few minutes later. Has happened on both 50 and 30 amp service. We have two AC units but only run one when on 30 amp service. The low power situation does not kick off the power at our Progressive Industries surge protector. We don't have the remote read out on the surge protector so not sure what it reads when this happens. Suggested causes? This has happened with both AC units, not just one of them. Most of the time they work great. Only a problem once in a while.
  3. I think we did. We stopped in Elkhart IN on a trip east to tour the Thor factory. While there we found a business in town that does all kinds of aftermarket work. We loved what we saw. We have an appointment on our way home to have them put in new carpet and shades. Also bought a couple new chairs from them. We love them so far.
  4. We love our motorhome and poor work will not keep us from enjoying RVing. Will be a little more careful on who works on our motorhome. I will go elsewhere next time I need tires. That is for sure. When you stand up and challenge poor work I have found most suppliers will make it right in the end. I will do as much work myself as I can. Sometimes it is not lack of ability but a lack of location to do the work that stops me. As a retired farmer, I know how to pull a wrench.
  5. I am starting to feel a little taken advantage of or very unlucky. We have had the worst run of luck getting parts for our motorhome and having poor quality repairs done. Are we just unlucky lately or are all RV parts and repairs poor quality? We had a braking system put on that was hooked up wrong and caused our brakes on the toad to stick on. Also the charge line to the toad was not matched up in the plug so, no charge line and a series of dead battery days until the problem was identified. Ordered a steering assist product and after installing it, found out it did not fit, as I was shipped the wrong kit to install the product. We bought a surge protector that had a burned out board when it arrived and spent several hours to discover the product was faulty. We had a new windshield installed only to have it leak the next time it rained. And the current winner in frustration. We had new tires put on under the FMCA tire plan 60 days ago. Quite a savings and I would recommend using this plan. However, we got the coach back with a cracked windshield that the tire dealer denied cracking (hence the new windshield). Since the new tires we have had two flats due to failed valve stems. Both repaired at our expense. Hard to trust the remaining four tires. Purchased a new TPMS for piece of mind. So far it works well. It caught the second flat for us. So far, with the exception of the tire dealer not admitting fault or agreeing to cover repairs, all vendors have stood behind their products and provided replacement parts and repairs. Still a big hassle and I am losing faith in companies making parts for RVs. Am I alone in this?
  6. We have the Air Force One in our TOAD. Other top rated units would not fit in our MKS. We are happy with the AF1.

    Safe-T-Plus

Called Safety Plus and they took care of the problem. They said I had the wrong bracket by mistake (I ordered the correct one as stated on their website for my coach). They shipped it to a local dealer and they installed the correct bracket at no charge to me. Customer service rated A+ by me. Now we have nice clearance. Thanks Safety Plus!
  8. We also have a 2007 Damon Tuscany. Try not to travel in rain, however when we have our wipers have worked fine.
  9. Just talked to a friend that had his transfer switch blown out last winter when he lost power during a storm His surge protector is wired in after the transfer switch. Where do they suggest these thing be wired in?
  10. You are right. I did know the answer. Just didn't want the expense after just putting on 6 new tires. We are in the process of an estimate for a local glass company. $1000 deductible on our insurance so I guess I already know the cost.
  11. How do identify the transfer switch?
  12. Thanks for the info. I think I will buy the Progressive Industries 50 amp model that is hard wired into the rig. Life time warranty seems to way to go. To much hassle trying to keep people honest with the plug in the post type. Can't be that hard to wire in. Color wire in, and same out. Right? I also want to replace my power cord with a hand reel type at the same time. Anyone have suggestions for the best reel. I think I hand crank would work best for me. I hope there will be vendors at FMCA's area rally the end of the month in Manchester, Iowa. Looking forward to that. If any of you are there, stop and say hi.
  13. We recently had all new tires put on our 40 DP using the FMCA tire program. Worked slick and saved us about $75 per tire. We use the motorhome about 2 weeks after this and noticed when we were about 100 miles from home that our windshield is cracked on the top in both corners. One of them has run about half way across the windshield in the tinted area at the top. It does not in any way effect vision. First, would you fix this? Is it unsafe? Second, I don't believe the windshield was cracked before the tire change but not sure. I believe it was OK but can't prove that. Has anyone else out there had a broken windshield after having tires changed? Do you think jacking the rig up on each corner could put such a torque on the body to crack the windshield? I am not about to go back and accuse them of it because I am not sure it was not cracked before. I know in the future before someone jacks up my rig I will check the windshield. Then I will know for sure. Also we will be going to Canada soon. Would a broken windshield be questioned at entry?

    Safe-T-Plus

Good idea. By the way, this sounds like and easy install by the directions. I am not a small guy, 6 ft 225. I had all I could do to get this installed. The 2 bolts that I had to take off that held the shock on were torqued so tight that I twisted two of my socket extensions in half trying to get them loose. I borrowed a 3/4 inch socket set from a friend and still needed a cheater bar on that to get the job done. With the right tools (meaning heavy duty air tools) it would have been easy.

    Safe-T-Plus

I just installed a Safe-T-Plus on our 40 foot DP. Seems to work well but haven't used it enough in windy conditions to see if it helps with driver fatigue. That's why I bought it. Question. When driving the motorhome the Safe-T-Plus works fine with plenty of clearance. Driving with air in the tanks, it sits below the fuel tank with enough clearance. When parked and leveled (air out of bags), the back of the cylinder rubs ever so slightly on the front of the fuel tank. . I don't think this will be a problem as it is slight but can't find any adjustment in the installation to give more clearance. I did buy the right kit to fit our freightliner so please don't suggest another kit. Suggestions?
  16. We have a DP that uses 50 amps. Will a 50 amp surge protector work if we use an adaptor to plug into 30 amps when that is all that is available or do we need a second surge protector that is rated for 30 amps?
  17. We were at our FMCA Chapter (Heartland Travelers) rally last month at Blue OX in Pender NE. What a great time they showed us. Free inspections and repairs of tow bars and a great full hook-up campground. While inspecting our unit they discovered that they person we had install our brake system failed to connect our charge line from the motorhome to the car. It was on the wrong post. A ten minute repair. Also done free by the Blue Ox support team. Hope our dead battery issue is solved. Thanks Blue Ox!
  18. We have stayed at Walmart parking lots overnight in several states. We always go in and ask permission first, and have never been refused. We also put our slides out. With our floorplan it is hard to use the bedroom area without them out unless you crawl over. We stay in a remote corner of the lot out of traffic flow. Only stay one night. Buy supplies when needed. Great place to stay.
  19. Mine said right on it that it was pre-charged to 30 lbs
  20. Installed accumulator today. Seems to work better.
  21. Not sure of the name of these things. Have a trucker friend that said they work but don't last long on a truck. He thinks on a motorhome with less miles going on them they may last a long time. Has anyone tried these on the duals? Do they smooth out the ride? I am ready for new tires and would like info.
  22. Spoke too soon. Dead battery twice when returning to Iowa from winter in Southern Calif. Put a volt meter on it and it does not show any charge coming from motorhome. Fuse on car side is OK. Still trying to check the Motorhome side. Update to follow.
  23. After cleaning the little screen filter before the pump, it works much better. I thought maybe we had run the pump dry and done damage to it as it was turned on one night this winter by accident when the tank was empty. After checking on Shurflo's website, I see our pump is make to run dry without damage. I have ordered the shurflo accumulator also and will install it when it arrives. Hope that will improve the flow even more. Does it tell you how much air to put in the tank? Hard to find correct method to determine this online. Our pump is a Shurflo Model # 2088-422-144 Classic 2.8 GPM OEM.
  24. Thanks. We should be home in about 3 days. I'll get a kit and rebuild the pump then. Do those come from surflo or aftermarket?
