Travel Across Texas Panhandle
jleamont replied to john_harris's question in Destinations/Attractions
Every time we have crossed the panhandle I eat at the Big Texan and stay at the CG down the street. I do agree, when we're at a CG the departure is always later. -
Daveglynn, what happened to total both? Glad you and your wife are OK!
-
Mike if you have your heart set on one. This place has one for sale. It's not on their website but sitting in the lot. Looks like a 40' maybe 1998 allegro bus. http://www.appleautosales.com/search.html

Blake, mine did catch fire on electric. The fridge I have the only mod was I removed the wheels from under it and notched my opening where the upper hinge mounts to the top of the fridge so it sat in deeper. I only have the central vac under mine but I didn't feel like moving the floor for one of the other units.

Bill so there is a T at the leveling valve to distribute air evenly to both sides? If that's the case I would start looking closer at the bags, maybe pull them and physically inspect them. Could also be a problem with the air line connection collapsing on one so the other is carrying more of the weight. I also have an 8 bag chassis, I'm assuming yours is similar, I found replacement bags cheap on the web. If I find the link I will post it. If you dig around I did post it before on here.
-
Bill 8 bag system....correct? Or did I miss read? crawl under after you safely support it. Nose around and see how it all works. Report back what you find. Bring a spray bottle with soapy water along.
-
Bill, one valve controls all front bags if that is how yours is designed. since most leveling valves only have a line in and a line out. Do you have air leveling? If so I suspect that is where your problem is. I have a manifold on the right side of the coach in the back portion behind the front axle with solenoids that controls all 4 corners If you have air leveling call whom ever made the system. Hopefully it's HWH, their tech support is amazing. if air leveling can you manually raise that side with the controls?

Get it fixed up? What was it? Always glad to help.

You got the hot set up!! I may do that with the next one. I can engineer it for durability, not bling and watch it break all the time.

When we bought this one it was 12, I was told the only way to finance over 10 is above average credit score. Anything over 15 forget it, lots of money down and above average credit score. Beyond that.... forget about it. I had my heart set on a 1998 Country Coach Intrigue. One owner garage kept 70,000 miles and it looked like it had never been used. The guy built street rods, owned the business. Couldn't get it financed unless I put 80% down. The basement door jambs were polished. It looked like it belonged in a show, man did I want that coach!! anyway, I would take an older one over a newer one, they were built better and simpler. Both equal less problems in my eyes and when a problem arises, simple to fix. By the way Good Morning!

Bill got you covered. Laporte Tire service, 11011 W Fairmont Pkwy, La Porte, TX 77571 Has them at their warehouse, can have them this afternoon, call Cliff at 281-471-3541 Michelin product code 85335 here is the tire; http://www.michelinrvtires.com/tires/selector/#!/info/xze

Bill, just got a return phone call. She is placing a few calls to see what is in inventory down that way and maybe make something happen. I did learn something interesting. Michelin owns BF Goodrich, the tires are the same, made in the same plant just branded different. Food for thought if you wanted to go that route, I am certainly looking into that for an option for me down the road.
-
Bill, we have a national account with Michelin at work. I just emailed my rep and left her a message to see if she could intervene and make something happen. Not sure if she can help but I figured it was worth a shot. When I hear back I will let you know. That is not an uncommon size at all, I'm rather surprised you are having difficulty locating them. We run them on the steer axles on quite a few trucks in the North East. Safe to assume you want an XZE tread for the steer?

Interesting, Did they make you perform an air brake system check or will they require it? That has always been the hardest for most to grasp. Well that and after you go under a bridge and they ask you what that bridge clearance back there was , that is the face I made and guessed it, got lucky on that guess . PA is a Class B NON Commercial (as long as you are towing less than 10,000lbs if more you need a Class A non commercial). Everything is the same as the commercial although they seem to be more relaxed and forgiving on non commercial.

Exploring Old Territory
jleamont commented on tbutler's blog entry in Tom and Louise on Tour in North America
Tom, once again your post has intrigued me. I share these with my wife often and we discuss places to toss into our bucket for when the time comes. I hope these will be around for folks to read for years to come. They have inspired me to look at everything there is to do in each state or providence, had I not read your post or you were kind enough to take the time to write it I would have had no idea it existed. Thank you- 3 comments

Ricky, Brett and Wayne are spot on! Keep in mind if the officer thinks you make money with your race car, horses or what ever you are pulling based off of what he or she observes you will have a lot of explaining to do to a judge and just might require a DOT number IFTA (fuel tax sticker)on the coach and a CDL. Happened to my previous employer's wife and kids in VA a few years back pulling a horse trailer after winning prize money at an event with a motorhome, sponsor on the trailer side wall. She got flagged into a weight station and it all went sour from there. Some states require it on all vehicles over a certain weight. Up here its not real common but also not uncommon to see a travel trailer (with either hitch design) stopped by DOT when the pulling truck has a business name on the door i.e. Joe the plumber etc, you are just the flip side of that scenario.

Randy, I get it now. You were trying to make the roof look better, was it turning black from the membrane aging? Some products out there have great reviews and others do not. I was looking into the RV Flex Armor since our old coach had a rubber roof and it was chalky, when it was replaced 7 years prior the job wasn't done right and it was loose in spots. I figured that thick plastic shell from Flex Armor would be a once and done kind of repair and I could forget about it. Got rid of the coach before we actually went through with it. If the runs are only on the top surface I wouldn't worry about it, the Dicor lap sealant doesn't look nice either but it works great and in the end that is all I was ever concerned with. Just me but......its the roof, if I cant see it from the ground and its not leaking I am happy. When you said brush marks I thought it ran down the outside wall. Then I would be very upset if they didn't clean it up.
-
Funny, I'm not French but I do like their fry's
-
Cannot speak to RV-Armor never seen the product installed, looks like paint from their website, very thin. RV Flex Armor I did see installed and looked at a finished product, it was very thick and impressive, actually considered having it done on the last coach. The part that is frustrating (to me), when you search the web they both pop up and a consumer could pick the wrong one easily. Sorry to hear about your problem. Perhaps I just need some clarification, who is "my RV maintenance owner"? In the end what is really the concern, brush marks on the sides?

Wow. Glad you are all fixed up!

Blake, the common one is the Samsung RF197, it was discontinued when I was shopping. The replacement is not recommended to run on an inverter (something to do with new compressor technology and was told it couldn't handle the bouncing) so I was told. I looked elsewhere and the one I bought required no modifications to the cabinet and draws very little amps. If we hadn't needed something fast I would have considered a larger unit just for more space and shopped around. But since was already larger and very cost effective it was hard to pass up. I wanted stainless steel DW wanted to hang magnets from everywhere we have been on it (the stainless model wasn't magnetic) I raised the white flag and bought it in black, besides it matches the microwave.
-
Actually, I get nothing!!! I am not the original owner of the coach there for no one cares. "I WANT MY TWO DOLLARS" Movie quote from the 80's Considering 99.9% of them are defective divide that over how many were produced, you might own them money
-
What is the current toll? Maybe I will do what I did on I 90 in NY, unhook the toad, DW drove it across, reconnected to the coach and drove off. I got that recommendation from another FMCA member on here. Makes no sense to me, what difference does it make if its in tow or under its own power? Carl, you should come up and visit before the weather gets nasty up here, those bridges won't have any effect on you coming from the west. I cross the Delaware one maybe two times a year with the coach. Living in PA we don't camp often in NJ, the term "Campground" in NJ gets thrown around too loosely for us and can be down right scary when you pull up to a "campground" and you see cars gutted on blocks out front, trash thrown all around. I was almost on an episode of COPS once in my life with a previous career choice, prefer not to be on there now. It appears to be getting better. Its like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get. Its a shame NJ has some nice beach towns, nice campgrounds are hard to find.

mmarxsr, Welcome to the Forum! http://www.michelinrvtires.com/tires/selector/#!/info/xrv According to the Michelin RV website (link above) it is a multi position tire. What size do you have? I was unable to find the 55301 and the FMCA website appears to be down, can't get on to anything but the Forum.

YUP! My father in law had to explain it too me, I was probably 27 at the time.
