    Now I know where all the Rubicon’s went :D. I have been hunting a 05-06 manual, half door, can’t find one! 

    Flat towing is a piece of cake with a wrangler. Carl and I both run the M&G brake system which is very easy to connect before departure. The trick to flat towing is a high quality tow bar that must be level to the vehicle, a good brake system with an emergency breakaway. Otherwise you don’t know it’s back there. 

    On a wrangler, transmission in park or a forward gear (if manual) transfer case in neutral, depending on the year you might have to turn the ignition one click forward to disengage the steering wheel lock. Our 2014 doesn’t have the lock, so the key comes out with me.


  2. Crisk22, I had a feeling the performance wouldn’t be much different due to the weight of the bus, it soaks up all of the HP and torque. The bus would give you better resale, more storage (tanks etc) probably real wood cabinets which is all a plus but a what cost??. 


  3. Chrisk22, usually more HP/torque is required due to a heavier coach. Your numbers above reflect that. So to answer your question they would probably pull similar. 

    Drive both and report back what differences you observed. 


  4. Speck, what blink codes were after the three? Its odd that it just shutdown for routine maintenance. Normally there is something wrong for them to shut down.

    The common items;

    • Low fuel level.
    • Operating temperature is too high i.e. belt broke.
    • Low motor oil level
    • low coolant

    Either way it will display blink codes to help guide you in the proper direction.

    You are a bit too late. I was in Saco/Old Orchard Maine from last Sunday evening through Thursday morning. I drove right down I-95 past Hampton. I actually considered driving over to look at the area. 


  6. tjsolberg, does that year talk to you when you press the slide out button? Some Newmar's will have a speech that comes across when you press the slide out button.  Just curious if that was equipped does it acknowledge you pressing the button and then it doesn't go out or is it completely dead when you press the button?

    Currently 51 degrees F in Angel Fire NM. Yes, at 8,.400'.

    Can't do that anymore :(. Found out last summer my DW gets altitude sickness. Had I known more last summer she would have gone to the ER.

    I guess its a good thing we are beach people and love hot weather (just not muggy hot).

    I spent last week in Maine for work, temps reached 80 degrees with no humidity and the nights were 60, it was beautiful! 

    Herman, I could see myself doing something like that or driving a bus for Disney when I retire. DW already drives a 40' school bus, might just continue that trend in a few years. 


  8. Personally I am not a fan of ANY braided hose connections on dual wheels. Crossfire http://www.dualdynamics.com/products/cross-fire/ seems to be a good one that I have commonly seen on trucks and I do like the pressure display on the window, you would get the same thing with a TPMS system, just on the dash.

    It does have some safety benefits built in but I would prefer a sensor for each wheel and solid stainless steel valve stem extensions on the rear inner duels. The reason I prefer a sensor on each wheel, temperature and pressure will be more accurate, if I have a slow leak narrowing it down to a specific wheel would be much easier with a TPMS sensor on each wheel.

    I have had a bad experience with the hoses chaffing on the wheel opening's in the past that left me on the side of the road making a repair. While the wheel is in motion and hitting bumps those hoses are all over the place and could be making contact with something that could weaken or damage them. 

    After many different systems over the years I gave this one a try and love it! Works flawlessly, no need for a repeater on a large coach either if you want to include the Toad (which is a good idea).

    Two things come to mind,

    1. hydraulic steering conversion by PSC, i'd cal them and ask if it will death wobble when flat towed or bind up.
    2. I personally would go with a system like M&G for brakes. https://m-gengineering.com/ You will want fully proportional and the optional emergency breakaway kit. 

    Manual or Automatic transmission, shift the transfer case to neutral, shifter in gear (I used 4th with our manual trans Jeep) or park, if an automatic. 

    I have seen many lifted jeeps flat towed, we had an 03 with a 3" and 35" tires. It actually towed better lifted than when it was stock, just make sure the tow bar is level. I would look into a Roadmaster all terrain tow bar.

    Yes, the low side is on top of the Receiver Dryer, the high side is about 12" from the A/C condenser (grill area) typically on the passenger side of the grill.

  12. I have some good and bad experience with modifying these. I have installed a countless number of power programmers in all sorts of vehicles, many Banks power packs on RV's, and altered softwares on many diesels of all sizes for more power and one common observation, It turns into a snowball effect, let me explain;

    I started with the Banks chip and transmission controller, coach ran better BUT, the exhaust manifolds were overheating and ultimately failed, so then came the Banks torque tubes (Headers), then the air intake wasn't adequate, then the catalytic converter failed from heat. I had to install a larger transmission cooler as my transmission temp gauge was running higher (had to install that gauge also), installed a different torque converter in the transmission, the factory one didn't like all of that torque, installed a deep transmission pan with additional cooling and case structure to help keep he transmission from flexing (common Ford defect).I got it all taken care of and the coach ran like a different vehicle but it certainly wasn't better of fuel MPG's dispite all of the "increased MPG" claims and I was throwing a lot of money at it. 

    Do I think it was worth it, probably, but it wasn't a cheap, simple modification.

    I pulled the mountain on I-40 into Flagstaff AZ at 70 MPH and that V10 didn't labor, a few years back I went up the same mountain at 40 MPH with my foot to the floor and it struggled. 

    I have also watched people that do not know how to drive a modified vehicle destroy transmissions, turbochargers, and engines, that it the ultimate downside to altering a vehicle.
