This website is a place for exchange of RV manuals: http://www.rvingthemidwestconnection.com/manuals1990newer.htm If there is not a listing, for your RV, they have a section to request an owners manual for your specific RV. For appliance manuals, Bryant RV has an extensive library: http://bryantrv.com/docs.html

Thanks Bill, that sounds prudent. I'll grease and re-wrap them next week.

It is probably true that a majority of FMCA owners have Michelin tires so obviously a majority of the tire failure reports would also probably be Michelin brand. Also are you certain that the analysis of any failures was done by some trained in failed tire analysis and can differentiate between a structural failure and a failure due to low inflation and/or overload?
I agree, data can be manipulated to convey different results.
I have read several posts on irv2.com by Michelin owners who have had their tires replaced under warranty for excessive sidewall cracking.
Michelin defines sidewall cracking on page 27(last page) of their Michelin RV tires brochure.

13 hours ago, FIVE said:The cracking on the Michelin sidewall is not always a "flaw." I recently attended a seminar on RV tires (the presenter was not from Michelin) who said Michelin puts an additive in their tires to reduce dry rot. When parked for an extended period of time, this additive shows up as cracking on the sidewall. However, once out on the road and driven, the cracking disappears. Having noted some cracking on my tires what he said was true....once driven, the cracking disappeared.
Whomever said the sidewall cracks disappear when driving will need to prove that to Michelin, otherwise why are they replacing tires under warranty for excessive sidewall cracking.

I have seen ads from a few rebuilders on the net; you might contact one/some and inquire if they are buying.

I am one who used shrink wrap in an attempt to reduce water intrusion into the MH ball joints and retain grease. I just had a total wheel alignment performed on our MH ($300), the HDT shop owner inspected all of the steering components to include testing the ball joints. He said the ball joints are good @ 44,xxx miles, and instead of wrapping them, to simply use spray silicone for lubrication. I have removed the shrink wrap, sprayed them with pure silicone. We'll see in the future___.

received this email today, it is related to this thread simply because of this statement:

The average RV furnace efficiency is around 60-65%. I now forget where I read that though.

No recommendations, however here is a good starting place: http://www.motorhome-storage.com/alabama.php

My wife has TruckerPath on her phone(free app). Yes, it's designed for truckers, but we RVer's use many of the same restrictions. To me the most important feature is routing designed for large, heavy, long vehicles. I have it set to identify rest areas, truck stops, parking areas, and more that I now forget.

That's odd; http://www.sailuntires.ca/MRT/dealer-locator.html
I figure if they meet the Canada trucking industry requirements, they're good enough for me. Sailun tires meet the exact same govt standards as Michelin. I've read of many Michelin tire failures, plus the sidewall cracking flaw.

Just now found this forum thread, too bad the officers do not update it regularly. Herman, S.M.A.R.T., of which I am a member, is a totally different organization, consisting of U.S. and Canadian present/former military. See: https://www.smartrving.org/ for complete information.

I learned about FreshCab, tried it, and apparently it works, haven't had mice since throwing pouches behind drawers, and cabinets. It must also deter elephants, haven't seen signs of those either.

No problems! No-one knows everything, but together we (MH'ers) do know almost everything.

They show pitting and corrosion at the bottom of the shaft where it is not covered when retracted. Yes you can spray with WD_40 but a better way is to wipe the shafts down with the same fluid as is used in the jack system. This removed accumulated dirt and protects the seal on the bottom of the cylinder. Some have grease fittings that should be greased with the approved grease.
Bill
HWH recommends using WD-40 and soap N water, nothing else.http://www.hwhcorp.com/ml47149.pdf
HWH jack shafts are SST: http://janeandjohn.org/docs/HWH-Presentation-GNR2008.pdf
BTW, for the original poster, HWH says to level side-to-side first, then front to back.http://janeandjohn.org/docs/HWH-Presentation-GNR2008.pdf

Read the excellent article in the latest FMCA magazine about approved Allison transmission fluids.

http://rvheadlights.org/2015/07/19/welcome/ is a work in progress, however the website owner has a limited database now. I took a lot of time searching the internet for a picture of mine. I finally discovered my headlamps are from 1995-1997 Ford Crown Victoria lineup.
-
If you have an HWH hydraulic jack system, they have SST shafts and will not rust. Extended exposure will not harm them. HWH says to spray them with WD-40 prior to retraction.

Don't use Bleach...use Clorox instead.
I use Sodium Dichlor, it has no aftertaste, comes in a dry powder = easy to carry/store in a tightly sealed container, and only takes 1 tsp to sanitize a 100G storage tank + plumbing. You don't even need to drain and rinse anything, just treat and go. If you are unsure of your water source 1/2 tsp disinfects 100G drinking water.
I do caution everyone to download the SDS for Sodium Dichlor and read carefully, as it can be dangerous for the uneducated to use.

Talking about the small print; hows this? " gov't taxes & our surcharges could add 7%–46% to your bill." I can't sign up anyway, haven't been a member 1 yr yet.

I received a progress report from bbrigham this morning. I made a good guess, he has been quite busy with repairs to his project MH:
"I have all of the systems working. refrigerator needed board and orifice. Hot water heater needed thermostat. Window awnings needs straps. Plumbing and fridge vent. Inverter. The chassis is in garage today for oil change and check. will update later."

4 hours ago, FIVE said:It appears that this thread has gone for so long and covered so many different topics, the real reason for bringing in other types RVs has been long forgotten. The ONLY reason for increasing membership is to pay for FMCA Assist....period. There are not enough current members to pay for the number of times it is forecast that the FMCA Assist program will be used. The answer is really very easy, we have three options:1. Stop using FMCA Assist...money problems solved, don't need the "other" members.2. Allow "other" members...FMCA Assist will be financially solvent.3. Offer an FMCA Assist type insurance program on an individual basis...with that person(s) paying the premium. As one of my favorite talk show hosts says, "follow the money."You might add: 4. Raise dues to support the Assist program, FMCA Assist is the ONLY such program charging less than $100/yr.

Just think if we had a place for all of the ideas to go and be validated as a way to grow our base and retain current and previous members? We have a wealth of knowledge out there, just no one has asked for it. Give the members a chance to upscale the numbers and see where it goes.

10 Year Age Rule In RV Campgrounds

That has been our experience too. In fact, one RV park asked the coach age, when I said a 2000, she said "really"? it looks like it's new, and proceeded to have me sign the Parks registration slip.
