    At this point I make it a point to Release the Parking Brake and while the engine is still running place the shift lever in gear to make sure you are in 4 wheel drive neutral. Then turn the engine off and when it has died put the shiftier in Park and you are ready to tow.

    My 2013 owners manual says to hold the knob to the right until the red N lights. Turn the key off and remove. There is no steering wheel lock. 2013 is the last year for hyd power steering.  2014 and later have electric power steering, which requires total removal of the neg cable from the battery, or the risk of ruining the power steering is sure.

    It sure tows great doesn't it.

You really need "flat" light that few "flashlights can provide. You could try THIS light but as I point out in my post on tire inspection you also need to "feel" the complete tire sidewall and tread area and rotate the tire as covered in my blog post on Tire Inspection.

    Many decades ago when I worked at my uncle's filling station, He required whoever was changing/repairing tires to rub their hand and fingers all over the inside and outside of a tire. He said you can feel a tiny defect that is not visible. That was especially true with a farm implement tire with thorns embedded. Even if the tube was patched, a tiny thorn would puncture the tube again.


  3. I had the same problem. New Bilstein shocks eliminated body roll and up/down rocking. Now when I hit a bump/dip the front is very steady, one slight rise then the front  settles to ride height, almost like driving my new pickup after I also had a total wheel alignment.

    I attempted to phone Saferide's customer service to get some questions answered. No-one will answer the phone, you get a canned msg that says to leave your name and number, someone will return your call within 24 hrs. That was Dec 7. I began a thread under FMCA feedback, the FMCA customer service manager replied that he got the same message, and would repost when he got a return call, He is also still waiting I guess, he hasn't replied again.

    Good Sam ERS has eliminated their lowest plan, they now have only 2 plan levels. I just received new ERS cards upgrading me to their platinum plan until my expiration date. The platinum plan is $145/yr.

    The Saferide plan and the Good Sam eliminated plan read the same.


  5. Sounds like you'll just give them my information and they will/might call me within 24 hrs., I wanted the information today. My phone number is unpublished for a specific reason. If Saferide customer service does not care to answer their phones directly, to me it is a sign of how much they actually care about customer service. I will attempt to phone Saferide customer service again, if a person does not answer, I'm done. I wonder about a current policy holder requesting assistance now. I already know about customer service at GS., yes it's more expensive, and I get to talk to a person on the first call.

    This reminds me of all the difficulties posted with the tech services , Mr. Smith is monitoring. I understand FMCA is merely a broker with these companies, and thus has no control over their operations.

  6. Wife and I discussed joining the roadside assistance program @ $69/yr. I've attempted to call Saferide customer service (877) 581-8581. No-one answers the phone, it rings about 8 times then a recording says to leave a message and someone will call back within 24 hrs. This is unacceptable for any customer service department in my opinion, if they actually want to sell their product. No wonder it only costs $69 if this is an example of their service to contract holders.

    I  phoned FMCA membership in hope they could answer my questions, but the man said they are not connected with Saferide in any way. The only way to obtain answers is to contact Saferide directly. Looks like we'll be staying with Good Sam ERS since Saferide does not answer their phone.


  7. Exercise great care when underneath your MH. Earlier this year a mechanic in Indiana was suffocated when the MH he was working underneath unexpectedly lost air pressure and pinned him. The ultimate penalty for not following safety procedures.

    That said, I suggest blocking underneath the frame, then crawling underneath with a spray bottle of 50/50 dish soap N water, then spray every air line, connection, and device to locate air leaks.

    I typically wont carry walking around the resort or a campground where families are. I mean, lets face it, if i felt it was that bad I would not go to the campground. 
    When I go shopping, to the bank in town, or where I have to carry cash, different ball game. 

    I guess it kind of like state parks saying no alcohol, if it is in your coach and not in public its fair game.

  10. My experience with the effects of constant sun exposure; my box trailer sits parked E to W, it hasn't been moved in 3 years. The tires on the South side of the trailer have sidewall cracks, the tires on the Norths side look like new.

    When I bought new Sailun tires for our MH, I also bought new tire covers. I already had my proof sun damages tires.

    Edit: I don't buy the "ozone damages tires so cover them" theory because there is no practical way to  prevent ozone contact without shrink-wrapping them.


  11. I've been using Sta-Bil in my farm tractors ever since my mechanic told me Ethanol would cause problems with everything that runs on gas. My 1972 farm tractor had never given me a problem after being stores most of the winter. I always add the appropriate amount of Sta-Bil to my 5G gas cans prior to re-filling them, sure it adds to the cost of gas, but IMO it's well worth the expense.

    I had to replace the carb on my ZTR lawn mower 4 years ago because I forgot to add Sta-Bil to my gas can that fall before storing the ZTR for the winter. I haven't forgotten since.

    OH! a side note. This is still in the planning stage, diesel fuel is not immune to suffering the bad effects of Ethanol: https://www.dieselnet.com/tech/fuel_ediesel.php

    If they wanted to buy a 25 year old MH with 165,000 miles on it, no one is going to stop them as they have already been cleared up to what ever percentage of value their home is worth.  No banker is really involved in what they spend their money on, as anyone that doesn't want to lose their home is going to repay the loan.

    That would be one way that someone could buy more than a 10 year old vehicle.

    Then again if someone had cash then there also would be no banker involved.

    That's what we did, well, we actually re-financed. We actually got a 3.5% annual loan, bought the MH;  monthly payments are less than prior to the re-financing too. MH purchase price is now re-paid. There is nowhere one will find a 3.5% rate for financing an RV let alone an older one.
