  1. Whether they actually work or not, do you think  you'll ever realize enough fuel savings in your lifetime to pay for them? The HDT''s that do have them are driven almost 1 million miles a year. When you drive that many miles, even .01 MPG adds up to savings.

  2. Your son may make arrangements for you to stay/sponsor you, at the military famcamp there,  you'll be able to read all about it at  http://militarycampgrounds.us/washington/fort-lewis-travel-camp  He is the sponsor, and responsible for your stay and behavior. If you choose to do this, the detailed driving instructions on the website are accurate.

That is a great area, I was stationed there in the late 60's. A drive up Mt. Rainier -in summer, is amazing, especially when you see the mountain from the CG.

A soldier needs a great support network, thank you for that.

  3. Wayne, we scouted for a different RV  park this past June, we always go to Pigeon Forge for DW's birthday, anyway this RV resort is very clean and quiet, great pool, sites are wide with  green grass. Look it up on google maps to see what I say.  https://www.stayriveredge.com/

The only downside, if it is a down, the road in is narrow and curvy, they are probably the most expensive in the area, $59/night for the premier back-in sites adjoining the river.

In a pinch, try  https://claboughcampground.com/rv-sites  It is noisy up front , lots of kids, but there are pull-throughs in the back of the CG that are quiet and shaded, and amazingly normally vacant. We usually stayed on 115, because it is about 80' long back-in with some shade, downside all gravel. We searched for a different CG because the front portion seems to be turning into party central on weekends/when kids are there, but it a convenient place to stay, with trolley service.

There is a bypass(449/Veterans parkway) around Sevierville and Pigeon Forge heavy congestion, that ends on the 321 parkway  near those RV parks.

  4. FWIW, we bought our MH in April 2013(see sig), on consignment from the original owner who, due to health problems became unable to drive and use the MH. He stored it in his barn for 8 years until deciding to sell. At purchase the odometer read 23,6xx miles, the genset read 1,8xx hrs. He owned Speedco locations and apparently only used the MH to drive to NASCAR events, setup and advertise, because it had NASCAR stickers on many windows.

We purchased an extended service contract due to the years of storage, during the contract span there was not one issue with the chassis, all problems were with the coach portion, those claims were for stuff that broke or degraded due to storage, like being stored with a partially full black tank which froze and cracked, and other items.

Anyway, I am comfortable with buying a used low-mileage  diesel pusher.

  5. "video unavailable" That does however sound like the commercials for another company advertising water softening via filters. The FMCA magazine today has a full-page advertisement on every other page.  I've began just throwing it in the trash on the way back from the mail box.

update: Read the FAQ page for more information. The most striking to me was where it states you must wait 24 hrs after adding the bottle of sanitizer to use the water.

    Puff, is that compartment vented?

Now you have me concerned. My XantreX RS2000 is in a separate compartment, isolated from everything else-no vent. Below that is the battery compartment, which does have a vent on the back wall. The batteries will get dirty from road dust, the inverter does not get dirty due to the "D" seals around both compartments. It's been that way since April 2000, so it must not overheat the inverter.

Guess I'll put a remote thermometer in with the inverter for a while to check.

  7. If I understand what you are saying correctly,

To me that indicates you are experiencing shore power low voltage, this causes the energy management system to shut off shore power, causing the inverter to activate to supply alternating current/120VAC to the designated outlets in your MH; air conditioners are not wired to the inverter, so it will shut off and not re-start until shore power-within those parameters is restored. When it came back on it said 18A available?? If that is true, there is a definite electrical problem at the CG.

Is there a way to hook up your shore power to a different CG pedestal temporarily? I say this because it is possible to have adequate voltage UNTIL a load is turned on, then voltage drops to an unsafe level.

  8. Sausage__, we got salt-preserved cod, really bad taste, but the rum relieved it somewhat.  This happened in a small tavern out in the country, the locals whooped and hollared, then afterwards welcomed us with free(too many) drinks. Of course being a visitor I didn't turn down the free drinks, it would have been insulting IMO 😋; DW had to drive back though.

  9. Normally the air conditioner is not connected to a 120VAC circuit from the inverter, it places far too high a load on the batteries. I would turn the inverter function off while on shore power, leave charger function operating.

Have you measured the 30A  power at the CG pedestal yet? Safe voltage levels are: low acceptable voltage = 108VAC, high acceptable limit is 132VAC (120VAC  + or- 10%). Any measured voltage outside those industry-standard limits will slowly ruin an electric motor/ air conditioning compressor motor.

Your description sounds like the CG has low voltage, I would test it ASAP, until then I would run the genset to stay cool.

We are at Pine Hills RV Park, Harrington, PEI...friendly people, speak English, proud of their Heritage, beautiful island.  Today is free to explore on our own, we will try to get together with Ian B, he's 54 km North of us!  Tomorrow is a long drive, 302 miles to Sydney, NS for next day Ferry to NF for 3 weeks! :P

Going to get "screeched in" while in Newfoundland? It's a hoot.

I will exchange at a bank prior. I won't give my CC even .01%  I have a few weeks but already excited and prepping the MH.

I have a Discover card, they never charged me any type of fee for using the card in CA. Once in a while I would get cash back when making a purchase, just to have some in my pocket. There were some places that didn't take Discover though.

Both of the units mention above are 4 wire for gas diesel is 5 wire. But, what i need is where is the Bird unit located on a 2005 Alfa Founder.....please

As I said earlier, I'm not sure your coach has one according to the sales brochure wording for an '06. There is a different, less expensive way to accomplish battery isolator charging. Re-read huffypuff's last reply. If your MH does have a BIRD, the only way I know of to discover the location is to trace wiring from a known point, like the battery boost switch on the dash.

If you want to buy a used one for a diesel pusher check here: https://rvchassisparts.visonerv.com/cgi-bin/md/M121167/s1.pl

This webpage seems to indicate it may be located in the engine compartment or near the batteries.https://rvelectrical.com/product/intellitec-isolator-relay-b-i-r-d-diesel-00-00839-000/

That webpage has a full explanation of how and why it works.

Wow!  A picture is worth a thousand words. That should be extremely helpful. Thank you so much. I love this forum already! I’ll be sliding up under the rig tomorrow so I’ll let you know what I find.

BE AWARE!!! Any movement of the rods/arms will cause a reaction to drop the suspension. Two years ago an RV technician in N. Indiana was suffocated when the air springs deflated, trapping him. Co-workers found him dead some time later. Use wood blocking or adequate jacks to support the frame.

That is The Big Boy isolator which I was talking with AlfaTeers and it is when the engine is not running it isolates the chassis from house batteries so not to run chassis batteries down. When plugged in or on generator it charges the house batteries. The bird isolator is when engine runs....

Actually, the BIRD unit operates when the engine is running, genset is running, and when on shore power: https://www.intellitec.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/53-00362-100.pdf

  15. I haven't located the sales brochure for a 2005 Founder, however the 2006 sales brochure hints the Founder model may not have a BIRD unit. quote: " Built on the foundation of the Alfa See Ya!, the Founder caters to those who prefer a simpler lifestyle—less electronics and gadgets—just all the basics to makeyour RV". experience the best there is.

The Founder may actually have what huffypuff described instead of a BIRD unit.
