I am moving into towing with a MH from my 2007 Ram 2500 with a 6.7 diesel. I tow a 24 foot, 8000 lb enclosed trailer, usually pretty fast. I need something not over 36 foot but I need more than the normal 300 or 330hp engine. We drive the Grapevine in Calif and the Baker Grade in Nevada so creeping at 45-50mph is to be avoided.

I need to draw on your collective expertise to see which brand / model has that engine to size combo. My head is spinning looking at ads, that many times don't even list the hp.

I know the 1hp per 100 lb rule and that makes sense but we are coming from a different direction than most RV'rs. We haul butt to the destination, hang out for 10 hours then haul butt back as opposed to not having a rush getting there with the goal of staying at the destination for a week. So while we enjoy the comforts of an RV there, the drive is of equal importance.

Budget is under $45,000 for about 1998 to 2007 range model with at least a living room slide out.

And I promise not to be a disappearing first timer, lol. I may have just got here but I will be here for awhile. Thanks in advance.

You best bet would be an ALPINE COACH they were the sports car of diesel pushers.  The were made in Yakima, WA and they had their own propitiatory designed chassis.  I believe the smallest coach was 34' and it had a 400 hp engine.

  2. Just complete installing LVP flooring in my 04 Holiday Rambler Endeavor.  Chose to retained existing tile in entry  kitchen and bathroom.  The entry and kitchen/bath finished tile were different elevations, the entry was over 1/4" lower than the other 2 surfaces. Also the elevation of the kitchen tile was too high for the curb side slide to retract.  To accommodate these conditions required me to fabricate a transition molding with a 90 degree radius.  Attached is picture of finished product.  I was please on how it turned out.

It's on Hwy 395. Driver ran off road, hit the embankment, then slid across all 4 lanes and came to rest in ditch...driver was still in seat and was cut out off seat belt. No injury!  It really was inn the news.

I was in Reno last week and it was on the local news, accident happens on 395 north of Susanville CA.  Hwy 395 is 4 lanes when you leave Reno until you pass the CA inspection station which is 80 miles south of Susanville CA.   There are many areas that have passing lanes that have 3 lanes.  I drove this route on my return home and was on the lookout to determine where it might have happened, but was unable to locate any signs of an accident.

  4. I have used the NSA Ready Brake on my toad (03 Dodge Dakota Ext Cab ) for nine years. I also have the indicator lamp on the MH dash that shows when the brakes on the toad are applied.  It't a simple foolproof system.  The system is basically a surge brake that mechanically pulls a cable that is attached to the toad brake pedal .

I have a Monaco Diplomat 2000, and need to know the part numbers for the Front and Rear air springs/bags?

My research so far tells me : Front bag is Firestone W01-358-6948 and Monaco Part No. 101-4793 this doesn't cross-ref

Rear bag  Firestone W01-358-9376 and Monaco Part No. 1011-0964 this doesn't cross-ref either.  Monaco Parts Team 800 435-7345 not a lot of help and very ex/expensive!  SDTrucking said to take the part out and look on top for part number.

If you are looking for Shock Absorbers the Part No. is Bilstein Model 24-186629 $113.15 per shock.

Thanks for any help out there

The brand and part numbers were east to see without even crawling under the coach on my 04 Holiday Rambler Endeavor.

Time  to replace the Michelin’s on the rear of my 2005 Monaco Diplomat 40ft DP. Looking at Hankook and Continental. Need opinions on both. Pricing is much better than the Michelin’s. 275/70/22.5

I have the Hankook AH 37's on my coach, have been real happy with them.

Jim the 3 bolts on top of the lift pump become loose and allow the gasket to leak. I suspect the gasket changes due to exposure to biodiesel. The Allen-head bolts are accessed from the top-side. New gaskets are available, 2 designs, which one is yours TBD on disassembly. My fuse is in a totally different location, no help here, sorry.

    Ray,

I don't have any leaks, just trying to located the lift pump fuse should I ever have a need to replace it.

    Jim,

Many times the fuel lift pump fuse is located in the wiring Harness running to the rear of the coach. It is an inline fuse hidden in the harness close to the connection powering the pump.

Joe L. is much more familiar with the Monaco wiring then I .

    Rich.

I have been in contact with Joe and his coach has the fuse in the compartment  under the drivers seat.

Thanks for your response, I will look tomorrow.  Since the lift pump only runs on start up for 30 seconds it should wear out.  The one on mine doesn't leak, that seems lake you see online posts of that problem.  Seems like the leaks are mostly due to loose bolts or failed gaskets.  My pump doesn't do a good job of filling the water separator fuel filter (during filter change) if the fuel tank is 1/4 tank or less.

  9. Have a little time on my hands and have been going over the coach in preparing for an extended trip in the fall.

I've owned the rig, (2004 Holiday Rambler Endeavor, Cummins  ISC 8.3 engine) for over nine years and have performed all of my own maintenance and repairs with the exception of flushing and replacing the engine coolant.

I have two brother in laws who own diesel pushers and both have experienced break downs on the roads in recent week and want to make sure that I have all of the essentials.  In the process I was inventorying spare parts and tools I realized that I didn't have a very good assortment of spare fuses, this lead to locating the location of all fuses on on circuits that I considered critical.  The low voltage fuses were all found in three locations (front bay under drivers seat, bedroom power center, battery compartment) with the exception of the one on the hot water heater control module.

However, I have been unable to locate the fuse associated with the fuel deliver LIFT PUMP.  I have researched all of the drawing that came in the original owners package, fuse nomenclature at all of the fuse locations  and online searches with no success.

If any of you have any idea where I might find it, I would appreciate it.

I have a 2000 monoco lapalma and I had to replace the control board on the back of my norcold 1200lrim and now when I turn my refrig on it trips the gfci in the bathroom.  I have tried to unplug the refrig from the coach and plug it into a extension cord and it still trips the gfci.  My coach is 50amp but my shop is only configured for 30amp.  Could that be my problem or is it the gfci or the heating elements.

Does the GFCI trip when the refrigerator  is operating on ELECTRIC and LP  or only on ELECTRIC?  If it only trips only electric,  the heating element may be faulty.

Back in 2001, I bought a 1997 Allegro from PPL in Houston, Texas for $21,700 and paid $200 for detailing, they did the PDI.  First thing I did was take it to Sam's in League City, TX. for 6 new tires...I had the coach for 4 trouble free years and traded it in on a new 2006 Southwind, got $33,000.  I personally, have never heard anything negative about PPL.  That said, it does not mean, that others have not fallen thru the crack.

As far as the Nocold is concerned, I'm surprised that your BIL did not verify it by visual insp. before he drove away!  Your BIL reads as being a very knowledgeable mechanic & fabricator!

    Things happen!

Guess that up to this point he no reason not to believe them, also he had been away from home working in Houston for 3 months and he was ready to get home.

    Jim,

Correct.  The initial trailing arms that Monaco provided to replace the OE broken ones WERE THE SAME WEAK DESIGN.

Strongly recommend replacing with the Source Engineering ones.

It is possible that the "new Monaco" also has upgraded trailing arms--- I don't know.  The thread in my link is over a decade old.

My BIL tried to contact REV, but wasn't able to get much info, sounds like due to Civid19 nobody was working.  To get back on the road he had a fab shop put a piece of square bar stock that was machined to fit in the trailing arm square tube,  Before placing the square stock in the square tube they scarfed oblong openings on the both sides of the trailing tube  on both sides of the crack and them installed the square stock.  They then installed gussets on both sides of the trailing arm where it cracked.  To insure that both arms  were the same they fabricated a jig to hold the pieces while welding.  My BIl was real fortunate  it happened next to a heavy duty truck facility, the owner gave my BIL full access to his shop, service truck, tools and a pickup to run parts.

Did he ask to have the unit hooked up to shore power, water or run the generator?

Kind of interesting because  I just sold a RV through the Cleburne branch of PPL. I was required to deliver the coach there with a full fuel tank and over 1/2 water so the systems could be checked. I know they moved several trailers without generators to where they could be hooked up to be tested by people.

Brett they do a complete make ready and check everything. They make shure everything is serviceable. This is on the sellers dime.

I have to be somewhat suspicious of the refrigerator story. They don't mind spending money especially because it doesn't come out of their pocket. I am surprised they didn't just replace the refrigerator.

    Bill

My BIL was also well aware of the refrigerator recall because his brother has refrigerator fire that destroyed his MH. When he initially inspected the unit shore power was available so he tried it on propane, when he tried to turn the refrigerator on the refrigerator panel didn't light up and he looked at the recall module and it was showing the overheat fault.  He informed the sales person and they said that they would try and reset it and if the didn't work they would replace it,  When he took delivery they told he that they had to replace it.

Just curious-- was the coach one of these with known rear suspension (trailing arm) issues:

    https://community.fmca.com/topic/570-serious-problem-some-monaco-holiday-rambler-safari-chassis/?tab=comments#comment-2686

Yes, it's a 04 HR Neptune and he was aware or the recall that's it's  why he crawled under the coach when he was inspecting it.  I looked on line to compare the original trailing arm with the one replaced under the recall and I couldn't see much different.  The aftermarket one manufactured by Source Engineering look significantly different.

My BIL's opinion is the failure are caused by the air bag bottoming out causing the trailing arm to be stress at the plate that the air bag is attached,

I was not aware that the PPL inspection addressed/checked any chassis, engine or driveline components.

I could understand them not including the chassis inspection.  My BIL is a heavy duty equipment mechanic is is real qualified mechanic and he personally looked at the real suspension and was unable to detect it was just a visual inspection.

The refrigerator issue with the recall module is a horse of a different color.

Bill, I received and ad recently from PPL with a real bargain on detailing your coach when you put it on consignment with them. And they do seem to move a lot of coaches.

    Herman;t

My brother in law just purchased a used MH that was on consignment at PPL Houston.  For $400 dollars they offer to check out all systems to determine if the were working properly. My BIL had spent considerable time looking the unit over but was limited to what he could do because there was no shore power and all water tanks were empty.  He was aware that the Roadmaster Chassis was one of the 4 air bag chassis that was prone to the rear trailing arm failures and inspected it the best that he could do and so no signs of distress. During his inspection he did determine that the refrigerator didn't work on LP and that the Norcold recall device had activated,  He notified the salesman of the refrigerator issue and he agreed to pay the $400 for there through inspection and was insured that the refrigerator would be fixed.

It took them almost 2 week before they called him to inform him  that they had completed inspection of all systems and that  were performing as designed.  He checked that the refrigerator was working and they told him that they had replaced the recall module.  He took the for there word and took delivery of the MH.

The next day he started the 1500 mile drive home.  He dove about 500 miles and was exiting a primary road  to the frontage road, was traveling 20-25 mph and hit a bump and immediate heard something snap and the rear suspension collapsed.  Fortunately no major damage was done and he was able to make repairs and and continue the 1000 trip home with no more problems.

Upon arriving home he decided to take a look at the back of the refrigerator (even thou it was working fine) to see if they has actually installed a new recall device or had reset the original one.  He was disappointed to find that the recall module had been bypassed and they has installed a 5A inline fuse in the 12 v source to the refrigerator.  I can't believe that any reputable dealer would perform such a  repair.

He is now trying to deal with the issue being 1500 miles away.

As I found out, if you need warranty service, AquaHot will cover your unit ONLY if the required service was done by an Authorized service shop. I had just serviced our unit and found a leak at the fuel solenoid. Had to bring it to an Authorized dealer for repair and because I had serviced it myself, AquaHot insisted that the dealer do it again before they covered the unit.🤨

the dealer took three times to finally find and make the correct repair, ignoring my diagnosis.......which turned out to be correct. After three 80 mile round trips and the extra service charge, I would have been better off doing the whole thing myself.

Your experience it the reason I perform my own maintenance and repairs.

Well, for anyone else who comes along, we have answered all poss questions on AH and Oasis!

I have never had an AH or Oasis heating system, but I do have a question.  What is so complicated about the systems that require the annual maintenance to be performed by the factory authorizes technicians.

I'm one of those guys that I prefers do perform my own repairs and maintenance.  I'm fortunate to have served an apprenticeship in the craft trades that operate and maintain electrical generating facilities, primarily in Hydroelectric projects, however in my early years I did work in gas turbine, steam  turbine and diesel plants that were fueled by either natural gas, crude oil or distillate fuels.

I expect that my next coach will have an AH or Oasis and that I will be performing my own maintenance and repairs.  I'm confident that with my experience with pressures vessels, boilers and controls that I can perform the tasks required to  maintain and repair these system.

Please enlighten me if I'm missing something.
