dgw44 Report post Posted January 24, 2017 Currently own a Tiffin 30DA V10 wanting to get to around 35 feet. Is a front engine diesel a viable choice. Money is an object.
wolfe10 Report post Posted January 24, 2017 Like any chassis, there are trade-offs. A FRED really combines many attributes of gas chassis (suspension, brakes, etc) with the diesel engine in front, front radiator and Allison transmission.
wildebill308 Report post Posted January 25, 2017 If your budget is a constraint I would be looking at a used diesel pusher. Bill
manholt Report post Posted January 25, 2017 WBill, I think they stopped making FRED's....therefore they are used. FRED had a lot going for them, like not getting clogged up on dirt or dusty roads, lighter chassis compared to a DP, the drawback was noise! Carl
hermanmullins Report post Posted January 25, 2017 If my memory serves me I remember a coach back many years ago that looked like Conventional Cab Tractor. It was not as long in front but still had a engine out in front of the driver. It wasn't a class "C", it was an "A". However I thought it was one of the ugliest coaches I ever saw. Does anyone else recall this coach? If the OP wants a FRED he might try looking for a Super "C". I don't have first hand knowledge but I would think it would still be noisy but not as bad as a FRED. kaypsmith Report post Posted January 25, 2017 I have taken rides in the new super C's and they are much quieter than the Freds.
manholt Report post Posted January 25, 2017 Champion comes to mind, but can't remember if it was gas or diesel. The Renegade is nice and quiet, like a gas front. You can have a normal conversation! Carl
jleamont Report post Posted January 25, 2017 Often wondered why Ford never got into this with the F53, maybe as an option.
manholt Report post Posted January 25, 2017 What? With the iForce engine? Carl
jleamont Report post Posted January 25, 2017 No! The new Powerstroke, not a bad engine and in the previous years back prior to 2003.
