Directv SD obsolete?

Recommended Posts

Did you mean 2019?

Directtv has announced it will stop SD broadcasting in 2019 and this will be a problem for those users with a dome antenna that only receives SD.

The same thing happened to Dish Network. If you have a Winegard contact them and ask if their Direct TV Dome will become obsolete. When it happened to Dish they sold their Dish satellite dish for a discount. I saved about $400.00 on mine.

Good luck and don't forget to call if your dome is a Winegard.

Wow! If the stop broadcasting SD then all DTV users will be forced to go with an open faced antenna. There is no DOME on the market that I know of that will received DTV HD.

Herman, DISH still broadcasts SD.

Anyone know if Directv SD satellite receiver antennas are going to be obsolete after April 2018?

I would not be too frantic about the fact that Directv is going to stop SD by the end of this decade, at least that is their plans. The satelites that now broadcast sd are not scheduled to fall out of the sky, only SD will cease. According to their techs, HD will gradually be moved to those satelites, meaning of course that most likely your now SD dish will still receive broadcast from the satelites that now receive SD on. I would suspect that the satelites that now broadcast HD will start broadcasting UHD at that point. A little inside info, and some speculation on my part only because of previous experiences.

Wayne, thank you...that said it all.

Herman, open face antenna only comes on a new coach if you order it...DISH & DIRECTV have different transponders in a open  face & only the base plate are the same for both!

Wayne, any idea how this will affect my signal through the Kingdome KD-3200?

DirecTV says they will send an H24 to replace my D12 receiver, and it will continue to get all channels except the local ones.

Steve,

I don't know what satellites or bands DTV transmits HD on. The KD-3200 comes preprogrammed to Sat 101 and can be programmed for Sat 119 locals and will automatically switch between the two. Those two sats are on the KU band. It will not receive signals from the KA band, sats 99 and 103.  According to the King Dome website the KD-3200 will only get SD channels using the H24 receiver.

The only advantage of having DirecTV over DISH is if you are into sports. Their sports package is more robust that DISH's.  My Son has DTV just because of that.  Also, DISH received HD channels and Local channels if you are a subscriber to local's in your area. Just call them and give the zip code you are in. The KD-3200 works with all ARCs of the DISH Satellite system.

Do you need DTV or can you, or want to, switch to DISH?

I had questions concerning Direc Tv standard broadcast also. Spoke with a Direc Tv  specialist this morning 4/5/2019.

Actually someone here in the USA.They actually called me.

Told him I had a winegard in motion unit and was using a h20 receiver. I wanted to know what was happening with the standard def signals.

His reply was.  If you have a high def receiver you will still have tv reception. He referenced my H20 and h24 and HR24 receivers as still usable.

I will find out in a few weeks when we head out if his info was good.
