  1. If you have the time you can stop at some very good Florida beach campgrounds along that section of coast, both FL state parks and private parks. But other comments are right on target, traffic around Destin and PCB is trying on one's patience. Now, while this comment could start an argument, you should be sure to try some Apalachicola oysters which I think are some of the best in the country!
  2. We have stayed a couple of times at Camp Hatteras on the sound side. Its pricy and in summer it will be full of kids and families. Not far from there is Ocean Waves campground. No pool and all that kind of stuff - its a very small campground but much less expensive. We've never been able to get reservations during the times we were there but that would be a good choice. We have some friends that like Frisco Woods further south. Its on the sound side. If you have a 4X4 you can go via one of the beach access roads and drive down the beaches. A permit is required now from the NPS, but its still pretty cool to be able to drive a few miles from the beach access and set up your beach chairs and umbrella with no one else in sight. And as menitoned by others, Ocracoke is a very neat place to spend a day or so. We've never camped on Ocracoke but its an easy day trip from Hatteras.
  3. I use the Rand McNally Walmart edition and my trusty Garmin. Like others have said, there's nothing quite like sitting down and spreading out the maps. The Atlas allows you to see a bigger picture and get an idea of alternate roads and routes, other things nearby to see, etc. But the GPS calculates exact mileages and can find other points of interest along the way. I usually do my planning with the map open and my Google Maps app on the laptop, then transfer it to the GPS when i'm ready to ride. Fun!
  4. I dont get out that way often enough, but for us, Monument Valley is a great stop. Another often overlooked spot in that general area is Canyon De Chelly. Not in Utah but a close neighbor in the Navajo Nation / Eastern AZ. In both places you can take a Navajo guided jeep tour. Not sure exactly which route you'll be taking north, but Flaming Gorge is also a beautiful spot.
  5. Sorry i didn't see this one earlier, but Pontchartrain Landing was nice and there is a shuttle to FQ. Where did you end up staying.
  6. I'm with MuckSavage, Bluewater Key is tops in my book! But now its April, so where'd you stay?
  7. What part is the "lower cap"? Thats strange because 2005 has a faded top cap.. the part over the windshield back up to where it connects with the rubber roof. That section has always been difficult to clean and wax. It's like the gelcoat on that part is totally different from the rest of the coach. My sidewalls are perfect and still shine after 8 years.
  8. 2005 Bounder 32W. Usually average very close to 7.5MPG. May see a little less towing in mountains, a little more where it's flat...but always in the mid 7s.
  9. I dont have the on board propane hookup, but did look at it a couple of years ago. Seems to me that unless you are staying in one place for a while, you would waste a lot of propane connecting and disconnecting a 12 foot hose.
  10. I tow a 2004 Chevy Tracker 4x4. Tows very well and very versitile with the 4 wheel drive. It's the same vehicle as a Suzuki Grand Vitara, so either would work. Seems like I actually see more Grand Vitara's than Trackers.
  11. Be patient and judicious about the time you visit there. At this time of year it is less than Boyds down the road, and no comparison regarding the sites and location.
  12. I couldn't resist showing this one of our 2005 Bounder 32W nestled into our tropical site for the past 2 weeks at Bluewater Key. Its our all time favorite place to go in the Bounder!
  13. X2 on what previous posters have said. We have stayed a couple of times at Camp Hatteras. Its a big place with a big price tag, but we enjoyed staying across the street from the beach backed up to the sound. The wind over there was not too bad and much less traffic and kids. The ferry rides are fun and plenty of room for the RV (a question most people ask.) All size of vehicles including tractor-tailers use them. I'm not sure if you need a reservation this time of year, but it would be worth a call to the ferry service. As previously mentioned, you can go from Morehead City / Cedar Island Ferry to Ocracoke then ride north to Manteo as an option. The Cedar Island/Ocracoke ferry is about a 2 1/2 hour ride. Same for Ocracoke to Swanquarter if you choose that route. While you are in the area, some of the "Inner Banks" as they are calling them now are pretty nice spots to visit too. New Bern and Washington for example. Awesome seafood anywhere in that area too. Sorry.. i just looked at the post date on this! last summer. So did you go and how'd you like it???
  14. We drove that route a couple of years ago from Asheville all the way to Chattanooga. Beautiful drive and no problems that I recall. Lunch next to the Nantahala was a nice break too: as you can see, the road was a very good drive in our 32 Bounder w/Toad and the guys & gals on the motorcycles seemed to be enjoying it too. As for camping, we didn't stop along the way but I think there are many campgrounds along that route. I was just looking up a place to go to visit our nephew over in Cullowhee and found many to choose from. Hope this helps!
