New Motorhome Floor Plans: Practical Or Impractical - A Poll
jleamont replied to aldebruijn's topic in Buying an RV
Rogers, keep in mind the down sides of trailers; When you arrive you have to exit to set up, in bad weather that can be a pain. When you arrive, the trailer is at ambient temps inside, cold or hot can be uncomfortable for some, while waiting for the systems to get the unit to your desired temp. While in travel, you are at the mercy of using rest stops or gas stations for the potty. While in travel, stopping for a meal often cannot be cooked in the trailer without opening the slides, then most do not have generators if you need power, again you will be at ambient temps inside while this is all happening, chances are you will be done before the temps are comfortable. The bucking and bouncing down the highway getting blown around gets old quick with a trailer. I am sure here are downsides to motorhomes for some, if there is any they don't bother us. We often travel with friends with Trailers, these are the struggles I witness, and I have my first drink down, they are still setting up. One safety concern; when a trailer is set up you have no brakes to keep it secure in its spot, (unless it has air brakes) I watched one roll at a campground last year as it pushed the chocks along and the scissor locks between the wheels fell off. Just my two cents, go for what ever works best for you and enjoy it. -
We had a Splendid 2000 series. If you turned the water on while driving the unit would fill up on its own, and eventually begin to leak as it overflowed. I called them for parts, since I thought it was a great thing the DW hated it. Splendid tech support told me I needed a new inlet water valve. The part had been discontinued, and there were none left on the shelf. They were kind to offer me a discount on a new unit, I passed. We wanted more drawer storage so I removed it and replaced it with drawers I had purchased from an Amish Furniture store. If it was a stackable I probably would have replaced it.

Herman, I had no idea I could do that, in fact the one for my smoker is empty, so off I go for that adapter and a quick stop at the butcher for a Brisket. I worked part time at a hardware store a few years ago so filling propane was a nightly occurrence for me, I have that side down. Thank you, my little Webber would take a few years to empty that giant tank.

Agreed! I won't drive ours until the rain has washed away all salt.

I think I have it figured out. Thank you for the responses. I bought an 12' propane hose with the fitting that is on my grill that will connect in place of the disposable bottle. On the other end it has a "POA" fitting which connects to my valve on the tank. I was told to remove the regulator, (since the grill already has one built into it) and connect. Seems simple enough I will have to run the hose across the propane bay to the curb side of the coach for convenience. Once its empty...... pull the tank = more storage.

Anyone know what I would need to connect my portable Weber grill to the propane tank on the coach? Can I purchase such a hose? Here's my dilemma; All Propane appliances have been removed from the coach. The tank is full and has been since we bought it almost two years ago (65 gallon). I have called all of the local propane dealers in the area, no one will empty it. So I either have to remove the tank full or empty it on my own. I was thinking if I connect a hose to the regulator and have one long enough I can run my gas grill with it to try and use it up so I can run it out and pull the tank. Any suggestions?

DOC Mike, usually around the wood frame are what looks like buttons protruding from the wood. Carefully pop them out and there should be screws behind them. If none, check inside the cabinets alongside of the TV compartment they might be in there.

Residential Fridge Vs Rock&Rolls & Rough Roads
jleamont replied to chp007kd40's topic in Type A motorhomes
I just posted pictures of the finished product in our coach in the "Gallery" section. I need more photos and will work on them soon. -
Carl, I slipped your kid neighbor a $5 to throw as much debris from the trees under your toppers.

Bill, I think the confusion is, your signature shows C12 CAT but you referenced you have a 3126 CAT above. The 3126 is a 7.2L not 12.0L.

Yup, I was thinking the same. Better make sure he's not on a coffee break on your dime, lol

Your Welcome. No, she was inside the house wondering what I was doing. Here is a link to my manual, not sure what model you have but this was popular with Monaco on those years. http://www.xantrex.com/documents/Discontinued-Products/822-4RC7-RC7GSRevNew.pdf

Brett, when I scroll through I only have Zone 1, Zone 2. That is only a little cursor on the bottom blinking under either the 1 or 2 for my zones. Modes I only have HEAT, COOL and OFF Herman, yes, but depending on your EMS system. We are equipped with a Trace Engineering RC7GS. I can scroll through a list of options, when I get to GEN Auto Start... batteries at XX% I set it for 90% and Auto off @ 95%. I have my Generator quiet time and start time with in 1 minute of each other. Since we do not boondock often If the generator is on there usually isn't a neighbor next to me so it can come on whenever the batteries call for it. Unplug the coach and turn your refrigerator on/TV on and watch TV in your driveway. I fell asleep and when the generator turned on I came up swinging . It took a few hours.

Carl, cant answer to the higher end units. I installed one on a friends TT two years ago, it has helped them a bunch with keeping the top of their slide clean. I haven't yet had the problem you are referring to with either of mine. Is there sufficient overlap to protect the slide?

My previous post on this thread somewhat explains why an engine only manufacture is being pinched off. I took my CDL test in a International, Cummins powered with a compression release. it was only 300hp and would pull you into the seat. ObedB and Gary are probably laughing now. After driving todays road tractors with the higher HP engines, they really don't out perform the old ones, they just ride and handle much nicer. Almost everyone is now looking for a road tractor with the power train built by the same company as the hood ornament, just like a car or light duty pick up truck. That in itself would make sense for Cummins to cut back as their demand is dropping off. CAT bailed when they just couldn't get the new technology right and its reliability fell apart in the 2007-2008 engines with a DPF. My previous employer had 52 of them and when I left they and cat were paying the local Cummins dealer to pull and replace them with Cummins Power to a sum of $38,000 per truck. Per truck we were averaging $7200.00 per year in towing expenses and $44,000 per year in repairs. We had CAT out for meetings, the local dealer trying to fix them, but in the end they agreed it was an engineering disaster and nothing could be done. So they were picking up part of the tab for the engine change. Just typing this I am getting heart burn that was a bad experience then and I hope I never have that mess again.

Gene, see if Damon can give you ground locations, and verify they are clean and connected properly. I had a Coachmen Class A gas in the shop a few years back that Coachmen had relocated a Ford ground to a piece of plastic that the self tapping screw was supposed to be long enough to hit the steel which wasn't directly behind the plastic, the screw never penetrated the steel, it was just scratching the steel, so intermittently the instrument cluster would go crazy on the customer.

I have auto start, but its not connected to my A/C units (I will have to look into that). Works great for battery maintenance especially with an all electric coach now.
