Walmart offers 720p Samsung LED sets for about $260 and 1080p for just under $300 normally. We have the 1080p newly installed in our coach. They only weigh about 15 lbs and are easier to handle because of their light weight. The wall mounting brackets are available at Best Buy and Home Depot in a variety of styles. Haven't seen any at Walmart, but our local store is one of the smallest in the system.

One more thing about many major routes in the west. The wind this time of the year is normally not an issue. The roads are not snow covered. You can run east with a tail wind and sometimes you can have a head wind. That can be the case in Kansas and Nebraska among others. The winter is a different story. There is an imposing mountain between Rawlins and Laramie that sits all by itself south of I-80 that literally creates it's own weather and that is Elk Mountain. Knowledgeable truckers always ask about that area in the winter. I remember westbound going by Elk with my Peterbilt in the left lane and the trailer part way into the right lane. Nobody minded because the other westbounders were not in a hurry. Enjoy your ride to Denver.

In that case, go for it. Can I assume that you have experience in the mountains?I am all about Colorado. Although I have lived in PA for 38 years, I have felt since 1977 that I belong there. My wife had a secure job with a pension, so I did not ask her to go west. It would have been selfish of me.

You must be looking for scenery and not short travel time. I drove east on US-40 through Steamboat Springs in my first Class A (34 foot gas) not towing a vehicle and then took Colorado 9 south to I 70. Have known truckers that have run US 40 and even though it is marked on the Motor Carrier Road Atlas as a truck route as Far East as Winter Park it could be a real challenge for a gas powered RV towing a dinghy. You did not say that you have a diesel with an exhaust brake. There are several passes to go over the highest being Berthoud Pass at 11,315 feet. If you just want to get to Denver take I-80 east as Brett suggested, but you can save some miles by heading south on US 287 out of Laramie and joining I-25 at Ft. Collins. Laramie to Ft. Collins is good road and you will have plenty of company on that route.

You know you are right! No humidity in FL is why there is so much Spanish Moss hanging from the trees. That stuff likes a desert environment!!!

It was the automatic transfer switch. I would not have known to suspect it without the info available on this website. Didn't have them in 1988. Our gasser was setup for 50 amp service but you only had 2 choices/ shore power or generator. There were no inverter chargers that I remember reading about. When you unplugged from park power you plugged in to an overhead 4 prong plug that was the output of the 6000 watt genset. That way you could run a rooftop ac or a microwave for snacks. Anyway/ thanks FMCA forum for the knowledge and the replacement arrived a day early. I know where I will be tomorrow.

Will look for that tomorrow. Cover comes off of the ATS now that the rain has quit. Will check for 120 in from genset. Nothing there will tell me to work upstream to the junction box you mentioned. If that is not the problem I will have to trouble shoot the genset breaker. If that is good, I am in trouble. I really hope that it is either the transfer switch or the coach's main breaker. I ordered a new transfer switch today to have as a backup on our trip or to install if the current one is bad. What year was your generator? Thanks!!

2003 Onan Quiet 7500 has been running like a top for the three months we have owned the coach, but yesterday it started fine but no power to the coach. I checked the main/ ok but I reset it anyway. Heart inverter has two breakers/ I reset them. The 35 amp on the generator was not tripped, but I reset it also. That one has a light throw. Maybe runs a relay? I am thinking ATS, because everything was fine the day before. I had the cover off recently to check for loose connections or apparent heat related discoloration. Everything looked good, but it is over 11 years old. It was raining yesterday so I did not want to get the multimeter out with a running genset. Headed back over today for some analysis. Suggestions will be appreciated!!! 40ft 2003 Phaeton Lyght 50 ATS.

Answered my question. It is available at Tractor Supply among others. gasoila.com

I almost never fueled anywhere but high volume outlets. With the saddle tanks on most of the trucks I drove I could shine a strong flashlight beam into the tanks and see no gunk. Only the shiny bottom was visible. Sure do wish that I could get a look into the tank on the used coach we recently bought. I remember something called Water Finder Paste used years ago. You lightly coated a clean piece of wood such as a wooden yard stick and touched the bottom of a tank that you were unable to look in. There was a color change if water was present. Might work for a DP. Anybody know if such a compound is still available. Guess I could goole it.

I bought three of the big bottles of Power Service at Walmart yesterday. Treats 250 gallons per bottle, and at that price it adds just over 7 cents per gallon ( before local sales taxes ) to fuel cost. Rich also posted a link to Stanadyne that has a formula to handle the alcohol in biodiesel. Don't know that cost yet. Hmm! Biodiesel is dumping food into our tanks and the alcohol used for drying it is probably dumping more food into the process because it is likely made from corn?
-
We should all be grateful that you raised the subject and obviously did some research. Thank you. The trip that we are about to take will be my first outside our 5% bio state. Finally get a DP and I find myself thinking about all of the nice used gassers that were available.

I remember LSD entering the market in the 90's and truck engines shutting off in cold weather including the one I was driving at the time. That was 500 ppm sulfur and truck owners as well as fuel suppliers reacted after the first few rounds of trouble. They were not prepared. Then when ULSD hit the market during that first cold winter the same thing happened, but fuel suppliers and truckers corrected more quickly. I had to treat my fuel tanks with an additive called Howes. It worked, but as an owner operator, I had to absorb the cost or find another line of work. Biodiesel was not around here at the time. Pennsylvania still mandates only 5%. Low compared to many others, but I didn't buy our DP to just ride around PA. I have used Power Service products some over the years, but I will now become a loyal user. I had done just enough research to pretty make up my mind that there product was going into my tank, but your post seals it. Thanks!!!

Exit 46 is Fernley. There was a good sized truck stop there that was home on the west side to folks working at the distribution centers in Fernley. Perhaps the real estate was turned into an RV park?
-
I will be 70 in nine more days, but I wouldn't miss the trip from Ouray to Durango with a stop in Silverton. I have seen big rides in the 2 RV parks I know of in Silverton and even a big coach at the South Mineral Camp Ground near Silverton where we enjoyed ourselves several times in our 34" gasser. The 40 Phaeton will be even more fun.

I know that you want to jump to another task that will take up your time, but before you go, is the alcohol the only culprit or is biodiesel the cause of the solvent action I referred to? Fuel filters clogging quickly is something that I have read. Water in the mfg. process is another.

I normally use the oval 3lnb dish on a tripod for Direct TV on the road, but I considering the big dish with a SWM 3LNB. The older oval is rather easy to aim, but the newer one gives more programming. I do have a Bird Dog sat meter that I used to aim my 5LNB for home use that I guess will help me. The question I pose is are there any websites where I can acquire aiming info without having to reboot my receiver? I use the HR24 on the road and it almost takes as long as a DVR to reboot.

It is not the route for everyone! I remember some steep drop offs on US 550 heading north to Silverton . My DW was very quiet in those spots. There is still a lot of beautiful scenery else where.

Do you know what effect it will have on the 3176 Cat? There are a lot of them out there in the older DPs.

I hope that there are some places between here and Colorado to find diesel with less bio in it. I have found better quality fuel at the high volume stops over the years however. Not using any diesel since Nov of 2011, I have not kept up with the latest news. Kinda hope Lucas or one of the other additive mfgs. comes out with something to help. My Cat was built in 2002.

We bought a 2012 Forester with a manual from an area dealer recently. The sales lady told me that manual transmissions are about to be discontinued in the Forester and several other models. I have not verified her statement, but she has been at the dealer ship for almost 20 years. Guess she knows what she is doing. Ours has been outfitted with a Blue Ox Base Plate and wiring package. I plan on taking it for a trial run behind our Phaeton next week. Weighs around 3400# and Subarus are very reliable cars. This is our sixth one over a period of about 35 years. Act quickly, and be prepared to settle for late model used if you are in a hurry.

All of the above and bio diesel is a scam perpetrated on the diesel users of America by well connected special interests and well connected lobbyists. We can't keep dumping food into our fuel tanks. It also has no real impact on our energy needs.

We have run it several times in our 34gasser ( no exhaust brake ) from Durango to Ouray. In October we will leave Lake City heading to Montrose on US 50 pulling a Subaru Forester behind a 40 ft DP with an exhaust brake. We will then head south on US 550 maybe stopping in Silverton for a couple of days and the on to Durango. Not bragging just stating a fact/ I am an experienced mountain runner in a tractor trailer with no incidents during a long career. My advice is to keep your speed down and pay careful attention to your task. Don't worry about the cars that may be backed up behind you. Most of them are probably enjoying the scenery. There will places where you can pull over although sometimes far between. Use your retarder to full advantage through downshifting. If you are afraid of heights take the lengthy detours, but you will miss some amazing scenery. Be sure that your slack adjusters are well greased and in good shape. Re: Fall Scenery. Normally after about the first week in September the aspen start to turn yellow up high, but the area seems to be getting a lot of rain again this year. That really slowed the fall colors last year when we were out there. Hope that this helps. It is a beautiful part of the world.

Boondocking in Colorado with 40ft MH?
obedb replied to klcracing's question in Destinations/Attractions
Leadville is over 10,000 ft. Everybody in your group OK with high elevation? Buena Vista is close to Leadville and Salida, with lower elevation. Salida is a neat town by the way. We love the Boathouse Restaurant right on the Arkansas River. We are headed through there in August. Probably stop a day or two on our way to Lake City.
