manholt Report post Posted March 18, 2019 Those winter storms did not hit the South, like it did you..we got a lot of rain, not a build up of ice & snow. Now, we are starting to see he effect of all that frozen water, as the streams & rivers are rising down here! FL, AL, Miss & LA. The mess in Nebraska and Kansas, will eventually find it's way into Texas...water runs to the Gulf.
richard5933 Report post Posted March 18, 2019 Reading through the wildlife tales from you guys in Texas, I couldn't help but notice how strange it is that we've got a very similar population, despite the severe weather difference. We've got pack of coyote in the valley, and they get quite loud on foggy nights. Kind of eery to listen to the sound when the moon is bright and the fog is thick. Aside from the coyote, we've got red fox, skunk, racoon, more rabbits than I can count, the occasional barn owl, and deer living somewhere in heavy brush. dbenoit Report post Posted March 18, 2019 Wednesday is the day!!!!! 1st day of spring, It's going to be like throwing a $100 bill on the bar at "Glitter Gulch". Covers come off of MH, boat and pool. By the way, for those who never went, "Glitter Gulch" was a fine Las Vegas downtown establishment until it's closing. Ahhh I loved that place......Anyways I don't care if we get more snow, the time is Wednesday. Yipee!! Yahoo!!

Hope your pool is heated...I don't belong to the Polar Bear Club! I won't jump in until June. Grand kids don't care I've seen them jump in early May. Whats with the march of the Tarantula's. When I was Ft Hood, one night cruising drinking we saw all this black things moving in the road, we stopped and looked and it was mega T's all going the same direction. Kind of creepy,
wildebill308 Report post Posted March 19, 2019 The spiders could have been running from this one wasp. I have seen them flying low looking for spiders. I have pictures of one that was dragging a big tarantula across the grass headed for a place to stash it. It was moving right along and I don't get to close or do anything to upset the wasp. The wasp is quite attractive they are quite large with cobalt blue body and copper wings. You definitely don't want to get stung. The sting is described (in peer reviewed medical text) as so bad you are stung just lay down and start screaming. No I don't want to try it and see if it's true. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=18&v=287mfv6lbDU Bill
dbenoit Report post Posted March 19, 2019 They must be tasty! Actually I just looked it up after all these years, they travel like that looking for females who could eat them or mate. What a choice????

It's nice being able to BBQ in nicer weather all year round, well maybe a little hotter in Summer than other places but that is why I'm a "Summerbird." In the summer all you have to do is lay them ribs on a grate and let the sun do the work. You can call them solar ribs.
wayne77590 Report post Posted March 20, 2019 Ah ha! So you've been to Texas, eh? Did Ribs in the Instant Pot the other night. Came out with the meat falling off the bone. Traeger takes 6 hours to do them right. Instant pot takes about an hour total.
manholt Report post Posted March 20, 2019 If I don't want to fire up the pit...I grill/smoke on the Weber Genesis, 2 hours! Can't get the right taste in a Insta Pot.

richard5933 Report post Posted March 22, 2019 I can happily announce that spring has sprung for us here in Wisconsin, and not a moment too soon. This cabin fever thing was getting to me. After a week or two of above freezing afternoon temps the ground dried out enough around where the bus was parked, and today I was able to bring it from behind the barn back to the parking pad next to our driveway. Yay! Not a moment too soon since I have an appointment next week to have the Jake Brakes installed on our engine. Great thing, these old mechanical engines. Hasn't been touched in about three months - started instantly as soon as I touched the switch. Oil pressure came right up and all systems are 'go'. Next thing you know the spring bulbs will start popping up.
wolfe10 Report post Posted March 22, 2019 OK, mowed grass for third time. Probably should just get a GOAT.
jleamont Report post Posted March 22, 2019 Richard, we are feeling it here in PA also! Got the roads washed over the last two days with heavy rain, no salt or sodium chloride to be seen anywhere. Hopefully it stays that way. 50 degrees today supposed to hit 60 next week. Adding the sound bar to the front tv in the coach tomorrow and probably gonna service the generator. That ought to really trigger the itch! Too bad I have no trips planned until the middle of June Brett great idea , DW wants a baby goat, need to add you and Diane to the list of people to keep away from my wife or I’m liable to end up with a goat
manholt Report post Posted March 23, 2019 OK, same as Brett...but I had to wait a week, Scott triple, then water lawn! Moved front, back and both sides, 4 ac. at 2 inches...we are due for rain & thunder late tonight. 73 today!
wayne77590 Report post Posted March 23, 2019 We have the grass mowed every 10 days all year round, so what's the problem? Joe, your wife already had an "Old Goat," why does she want a baby one that will grow up the same?😇
manholt Report post Posted March 23, 2019 Wayne, at the house on the Island...same as you! It's non-stop. Here at the ranch, grass goes dormant for 3 months, only weeds grow! The weeds will be gone by Monday, Linda sprayed 200 gallons yesterday...she has the Ag. Licence. That stuff is not cheap!!! Now, for the Cactus, I'm spraying today & we will pick up & burn it, next weekend. There will come the day, that we can't maintain this place any longer....hopefully, that's a long time away! Thank the Lord, country living ain't for everybody...we love it.
