  1. Guess this maybe an after the fact buTTTTTTTTTTT, I've a steer safe for 5 years and wouldn't chanEg my setup. It is perfecttttt.
  2. Bill: you pretty much summed this up for all of us RVers. This is exactly how most of us would have put it. Now if they will take this to heart and truly try to work this out to get all of us back it would be nice. I'm afraid they'll handle this just like the politicians would handle it. Take the heat for a bit as they figure we'll forget about it and come back without addressing the real issues. We may come back if they really look at what they have done, and make some changes for the good. Maybe they'll see that other truck stops are welcoming our dollars, dollars that used to be theirs, not only in fuel, but in their shops, and restaurants. I'd think they would be feeling it in their pocket book by now . If not now in the near future as more and more RVers get smart. The summer crowd hasn't hit the road yet, and newbies don't quite know what is going on, but they're RVers, and they're not stupid and will figure out what has happened.
  3. Lynsay, You might want to travel a bit down the road from any Pilot or Flying J and check on the competitors pricing which of late is pretty much at a lesser price than you. As as I said before, we travel all over the United States and Canada, pilot in the states is always priced higher. I say this not as a bitching session but as input from an RVer that travels all year long. I personally liked what Flying J was offering us as RVers. Not all the stations were up to snuff as being RV friendly. We could count on being able to get a good meal and whatever was needed on the trip without having to worry about the fuel price being .10 upwards down the road. We would like to have our old Flying J's back, which can never happen. Also charging for dumping doesn't make any new friends, and I've never used their dumps.
  4. Thanks for the input Bill. BP has normally been on the high side also, but now we'll be keeping an eye on them in our travels. That was a gas price and not a diesel price? Do you remember what diesel was at that time?
  5. As noted earlier from someone, Flying J prices are up to same prices as the Pilots prices. We never stopped at the Pilots because of their fuel prices, and I even have one of their cards. We now use Flying Js only for their propane because of the ease to get filled. Other than that we check out fuel prices while on the road. We just traveled 1,300 miles and never purchased fuel from a Flying J other than a fill on propane. Until they, Pilot/Flying J, get their act together we'll not be stopping at any of their stations. They not only lost our fuel ( last trip $900.00 on Diesel ) but they lost us in their shops, and restaurants as we don't stop there anymore.
  6. It boils down to if you can afford to play, you can afford to pay. To what extent is different to each of us. We may change some of the ways we do things in our travel plans a bit., But we surely won't jump out of the pan and into the fire. We travel now and will be traveling in the future. Our rig won't be sold or mothballed. We may stay longer on our stops, and not travel as far as we'd like, and not see quite as much as we'd like at the moment, but tomorrow will be a different day.
  7. Ditto!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hanoi Jane. We used her face in our urinals as a target spot to hit. Nobody who was in any of the services likes her for her anti-American feelings during the war. Hench her crappy career came to an end. Guess ob never hear of Hanoi Jane and her war antics. It's just another way of proving he's dumber than a box of rocks. Maybe his career will end on this one also. None of us will ever forget the traitor. Time will never heal this one.. Angry also, John
  8. I've installed a Wilson setup and it's doing a fine job so far. A no signal situation is boosted up by 1 to 2 bars. Those signals then get the cell phones and Internet service up and running. I'm in a no bar area in the summer so I leave the system up and running in the coach all the time. That way I have my cell phone and INTERNET coverage in the house. I'm using a Verizon MiFi card @ about $50.00 a month unlimited usage, no roaming charges. It also serves as a router for my wireless printer. I can use up to 4 or 5 computers or wireless devices at the same time. The Wilson system consists of their SoHo amp, their trucker antenna , and their indoor wall mount panel antenna. I have the outside trucker antenna mounted on my rear coach ladder. I have the antenna height set just above my air conditioners height. The idea of using an extension pole for the outside antenna seems like a good idea to me. I'll probably use that idea so I can raise my outdoor antenna higher when I'm stationary. Next is the SoHo amplifier which receives any signal from the trucker antenna and then boosts it up to a clean usable signal. Next is a wall mount inside antenna which receives the boosted signal from the SoHo and broadcasts those signals to my WiFi card, or our cell phones. So it goes like this. Outside antenna receives cell tower signals, amplifier boosts those received signals to the inside antenna which in turn sends the signals to the MiFi card or our cell phones. You're your own wifi hot spot which your friends can also use. That's as long as you give them the needed access code, as it's a secured signal. I've set up the system for 12v while traveling, and 120v for stationary use while on shore or genset power. It's a plus having the cell phone signals while traveling, hence the 12v system for the boost in fringe areas. 2 months of the year we're in New Mexico outside of Carlsbad up in the mountains @3500' in Lincoln National Forest. It's a verrry fringe area for cell phones or any Internet service. It's a maybe yes or maybe no area. You have to have a walk-a-bout to find an area to use your cell phones. That's if you can find an area that particular day. Forget it if it's a cloudy or an overcast day. Also if you happen to find a signal area that's not saying you won't drop the signal 1/2 way into a conversation. This year the new system will tell the tale. Was the system worth the money, does it really work as good as I'm hoping? So far since I've installed the system I've had no communication problems. Either cell phone or Internet. In March when we're in the mountains I'll be better informed as to how good the system really works. The cost of the system after extensive research, and finding the right parts, from the right supplier, at the right price, ended up to be around $450.00. Like I said so far it's been worth every penny. Up in the mountains in New Mexico will be the biggest and final test. My fingers are crossed, but I know it'll work fine. I hope. Safe Travels, John

    Fuel Requirements

I'm thinking there's no low-Sulfur anywhere in Mexico. I'm going to be getting a hold of GM and find out what if anything much would happen to the engine using a tank or 2 in Mexico. Maybe theres an additive they'll recommend.
  11. Anywhere you park is on your own. How can you sue Walmart because you can't take care of business? Why would you open your door if you can't see who it is. Just dumb. I guess what'll happen next is that Walmart will not let any more RV parking in their lot's. Thanks to some people who can't take care of themselves and all they can think of is SUE if they have a problem!
  12. I did a lot of shopping around for RV ins. A LOT. Best coverage and price was from Gilbert RV Insurance Co. 888.784.6787. The policy is covered on agreed value, seeings my unit is an 07. Coverage included col. in Mexico. You still need to purchase ins. from Mexico to be legal in Mexico on medical and such. I couldn't get any reasonable prices from Progressive, GMAC or any other RV club affilate compainies. In my research I found that Victoria Insurance ( Whom I'm with through Gilbert ) had a good reputation on Claims issues. Safe Travels, johnfv2
  13. They forgot to mention the best spot to eat and dance. Pepe's along the Rio Grand! It's close to Mission Which is where we'll be heading on the 17th. Small CG 30 some sites fhu's. $198.00 per month + elect.. Seldom Rest Ranch and RV park off Bentsen Palm Dr. Mission. As mentioned lots to do or not do in the area. Tell them John sent you. Good Luck and Safe Travels, John & Therese
  14. I just put a Red Devil in my basement. Takes up no room. Installed it in the living room next to the kitchen. I even put in the optional floor sweeping pan in the kitchen. The other 1/2 can now sweep the floor right to the vac unit. I also put an optional basement hookup in so I can vacumn my truck when the floors get dirty in our travels. Eassssy to install yourself. Good luck. I got my unit off of ebay from a guy who gave me a price on the whole system with everything that I wanted. This one came with the collapsable wand and a beater brush.

  16. We have also noted how the fuel prices have been increasing. We stay put in the summer and head out before the snow falls (Wisconsin). Deisel prices are also lower then. When we were heading home last April I did question FJ about their prices and the bankrupcy came up. Since then I've heard that the company owned FJ's are usually cheaper that the franchise stores. We like the FJ's mostly because of access, -.05c on propane prices the penny discount on fuel, and the big thing, being able to get cash prices using a credit card. They treat us RV'ers good so I'm inclined most of the time to use them if they're only 2c or 3c more. I've gone by because of the price only to find everyone is about the same or higher further down the line.
  17. As a yearly FMCA convention attendee I would highly recommend you get a site with electric. July can get a bit warm out there. 30-amps will run one air conditioner with no problem. Use the electric for the coach and save your fuel for driving. You'll be glad you did.
  18. T hose quick sliding connets I believe are from Camping World.
  19. My 2007 unit came with a digital tv in front and an analog in the bed room. I will be purchasing a 22" digital for the bedroom. In my research I've settled on a 22" Toshiba from ebay. This unit will also be used for outside viewing as it is light weight. Two swivel exact same mounts will be used to mount in the 2 different locations. The antenna in the coach with the addition of the new winguard wing from Camping World works fine for digital viewing. Hope this helps some.
  20. Opp's I forgot to give the site address, which is http://www.jackdanmayer.com/
  21. Doing a little research I came upon this site from 1 of our members, and additional sites from this site. It's super informative. I'm also an electric hog so I'm planning in the near future to go to about 4 or 5 panels at about 250 watt's each.
  22. I'm sure quite a few of you RVer's have boned up and installed solar. How's about getting us all up to speed on the subject. Thanks for any info that may arise.
  23. Good bad or indifferent. I always leave 110 hooked up in my Coach when not in use. I did the same when I had a boat. I've never had a battery problem doing this. My boat batteries lasted me for 6 years. But yes you must check on the water at least 1 per month. I've installed a water fill system so I can fill the batteries without having to check their levels. My battery slide tray does not pull out far enough to see the rear fill holes of the rear battery. Having this system in place elevates having to check each cell to see if water (Distilled) is needed. Camping World has this system and it's even cheaper than what I paid for it at a Rally.
  24. I've used a Even Brake Towed Car Braking System on a Jeep Wrangler and now on my Chev. Colorado Pickup truck. I've been verrry happy with this system. Easy to install and use. Go to the Roadmaster site and check it out.
  25. My grey tank seems to drain very slow. 2" or so pipe compared to the 3" for the black tank. If the is some sort of blockage anyone have any idea how to check it out?
