  1. 400 miles is plenty. Most travellers I end up talking to usually cover 250-300 miles per day. Sitting in that comfy captains chair with cruise control on does make the miles pass by. Oh.oh, we now have your phone number. Come snow, sleet, rain, or the swine flu Linda and I plan to be in Texas next Feb.
  2. In our neck of the woods that would be considered an excellent "newfie" joke. The province of Newfoundland is that island off our east coast. Those Easterners take the brunt of our jokes.
  3. Very true-we tell family and friends to log on to FMCA and go to community to follow our travels and many do. You do not have to be a member to read the blogs.
  4. Starting a blog on here is a good idea. First update you profile page so we readers know more about you. There is lots of activity on the forum page but the blogs need more interaction.
  5. Yes, thanks for info. Navistar should be good for the future of the RV industry.
  6. You made it to Florida! Heard about the heavy rains in Texas up here on the news. Good you left early.

    Loss of a pet

That letter was almost too sad to read. A few weeks ago, our Maltese dog, Jemma, was the featured Pet Spotlight on the FMCA web site. Shortly after she developed a serious cough (on our trip to Ottawa). After several trips to vets, x-rays and medications, she seems to be recovering. Finally, she was diagnosed as having a form of bronchitus and is on steroids. We were concerned it could have been quite serious -- e.g., collapsed trachea. We must leave next week for a trip to Alberta and we are hoping she will travel well.
  8. A couple we know were camping at Jekyll Island and got locked out. Somehow one of their cats jumped up and hit the door lock. They managed to jimmy the drivers window and get back in-all the time it was pouring rain. Now getting locked in-that is definitely a different story!!
  9. Had the Flying J Rewards card in my wallet but never did use it till the trip home from Ottawa last week. Savings was a penny per litre on gas as well as propane. Bought 186 litres gas and 44 litres propane-savings of $2.30 on the one fill-up. Now I always use a Canadian AMEX AIRMILES card for fuel-we collect one airmile for every $20.00 spent on the card. Also Shell Canada is an AirMILES sponsor and Flying J sells Shell so I collect another airmile again on every $20.00 spent on Shell gasoline. Come Christmas time we cash in our airmiles for grocery coupons usually up around the $300.00 range. So I will be on the lookout for Flying J's whenever they are convenient. Read your blog about snow, rain, etc. in Denver. Seems you had a pretty tough time of it!!
  10. Sort of agree Gary. Anthing we have to discuss and follow up on pertaining to our motorcoaches will continue to be on this website. Both my sons and family frequent Facebook and it is more of a social network for the younger crowd. However my wife does have a FB account and will go on to see different photos, etc pertaiing to family and friends.
  11. Good luck on that one. On our travels in March we met a couple from Florida who had heard of a trailer capable of towing their car with room for a golf cart parked sideways at the front of it. Sorry but no info on any manufactures or dealers.
  12. You can say that minor problems are sort of routine. We have a 2009 Safari, Simba now with some 5,000 miles on it and there was always some minor nuisances. But we try and "go with the flow". Our bed collasped on us. a shelf above the door fell off, a big screw jammed up the macerator, the sewer rinse valve still doesn't work, the oil seal between the engine and tranmission leaks, voltage irregularities from the inverter, leak from the ice maker. Having said all that everything is fixed to perfection or will be! We have a great dealer.
  13. Plans always seem to change. Last year Linda and I travelled to Edmonton by motorhome to visit our son and his wife-once we arrived Linda's brother called saying that their mother in Wales had taken a turn for the worse. Now we knew she was poorly as Linda had just returned from Britain from visiting her,but we had to make this trip west to see our son,of course. So Linda booked a flight from Edmonton to Cardiff,Wales immediately($10,000) and flew off. She got there in time to bid goodbye to her mother. Well worth the trip. I returned home to Ontario by myself.
  14. Hello to you too! We will be spending one month in Edmonton from May 15 on. Staying at WhiteMud Resort. Keep in touch and we can get together maybe for a weekend trip.
  15. So you bought a Magellan! Wife and I were really impressed with Model 36R at last falls RV shows.. Triple slides and TV-fireplace in the huge living room. But we purchased our Safari-Simba instead mainly because of the great dealership we found. Haven't installed the front FMCA plates yet-like you say, wind, rain, bugs, etc. Just place it on interior of windshield when parked. Rear was easy to attach to ladder with plastic ties.
  16. I believe I have the same lights in my Safari. Yes, a counter clockwise turn does remove the glass. A dead fly was in one of mine, so I did remove it for cleaning. My light fixtures are on a spring-loaded clip so I can pull them slightly out of the ceiling to get a better grip.
  17. News to me. Never realized that MH owners towed a vehicle without a braking system. Trying to imagine the safety aspect and I am sure there must be laws in certain states and provinces regarding that. Sure that in BC a braking system is the law. Again I don't know and sure hope there are more comments. On the way back from KY the other day I met a (possibly) 32 foot coach towing a car which was towing a trailer with two Seadoos on it. Hope they would have braking system.
  18. Getting to know the Butlers! Wow,looks like you have quite the rig!!

  19. So you have been to Cambridge!! Nice to know that you know exactly where London is.

  20. Great! Another blog to read. If you read my last blog it was about a bonfire night. We got along great with a couple from Florida driving a 2007 Monaco Diplomat. Actually we are planning to get together next February with that same couple to tour South Texas. The town of Harlingen actually came up. Plan on having visitors next year. This website is great to keep in touch with other motorcoach owners and their travels.
  21. Will try and keep track of your travels as you will be traveling through upper MI on US 2 as well. We should be traveling through there around May 3rd-5 on our way to Alberta. Will keep watch for your Bounder. Right now we are in your state-just south of Perry.
  22. OH SH*T-lesson learned. That is what I like about the RV sani-con system. You don't need to use the sewer flush valve as I can transfer the grey into the black which does a real good rinse of the black tank with the soapy grey water.
  23. You will receive different opinions but Ford or Workhorse will give you the same performance. There is little difference anymore with all the new technologies built in. A Workhorse is the GM chassis.
  24. Our first trip to Florida and we found a nice campground called Lucky Clover in Melbourne just south of space center. You can check out their web page. Very close to beach and shopping. All friendly people. We can use help as well. Next year we are off to the South Texas area. We can use names of decent campgrounds there.

    Going Full-Time

Thanks for comment on my blog. Wife Linda is diabetic with complications so getting around can be difficult. We are four blocks from the beach and used the wheelchair yesterday. Today a fellow camper from NC has offered us a ride. We did not bring the car as was our first trip with new coach.
