  1. Looking to install a temperature sender on my Allison 2000MH since this tranny does not send temp data to my ScanGuage D. I assume there must be one or more test ports on the transmission that a sender could be placed in. Has anyone done this, or know where the ports are located.
  2. Center windshield about twelve inches from top. No issues. Have one transmitter for MH, and one for MH with toad. Keep the unused device in metal box when not being used. Have FL and VA that gives me national access.
  3. DTV installed the new HD Genie receiver in house today, and it worked out as planned. reduced my media cost by about one hundred dollars per month, and use both MH and house DTV's simultaneously.
  4. There is another option for those of us that are currently equipt with Direct TV (DTV) satellite dishes on our coaches. You do not have to pay for DTV in your coach and at home too. If you have your MH receiver move to your account with your home system, you will only have to pay "ONE programming package and a mere $6.00 for the receiver in your MH. Yo are allowed to have more than one receiver in a account, but you only pay for ONE programming package per account, shared among them. It took me almost a year of brow beating DTV to find this out, but i got lucky, I'm trying to pass this info on!
  5. PROBLEM; Paying two TV bills, one for MH, one for house. Finally got across to DIRECT TV my needs today, and if all goes well i can save some money. Here's how it works. I have previously been paying for Direct TV in the MH, and cable TV at home. Two separate bills and double the cost. When we leave home for any thing over two months we turn off the cable. They charge you to turn it back on! Eating up a months savings in the process. When we return home we have to pay for the Direct TV even though we are not using it. While you can "suspend" the Direct TV there are limitations; no more than six months and no more than one period per year. So the Direct TV suspension does not work for us either because we make several trips per year. HERE'S THE SOLUTION; Drop cable at the house permanently, call Direct TV and tell them you want a "NEW" install at your house, but then tell them that you already have a Direct TV account (Important) for your MH and you want the "NEW" dish and receiver to be added to your MH account. (You can do it the other way around also, if you have a account at the house) Here's how this helps, you will than have one Direct TV account with two receivers in it, one for the MH, one for the house. Direct TV counts each receivers as a system, you pay a small fee (6.00+-) per device attached to each receiver and for each receiver that is DVR $10.00 as well. The beauty of this is that you only have to pay for one program package per ACCOUNT, no matter how many satellite dish's or receivers! Repeat, You do not pay for a seperate program package fee for each system/network, ie MH & Home. REMEMBER; You must put both house and MH on same account to just pay for ONE program package! SAVINGS: So if you have the Ultra package in both the MH and Home would cost $89.00 +- for one program package, $10 for new receiver (HD/DVR Genie) and $6.00 for each device (including the MH) , plus tax ect. That beats the "****" out of paying for two separate program packages from cable Direct TV, Dish, ATT or who ever! Getting my setup installed early next week, I will post the results to this forum and let all know how it worked out. It took me a year and four different representatives ALL of whom gave me bad information, to get this worked out, finally got a Direct TV supervisor that knew her stuff and TURNED ME ON! CHECK IT OUT!!!!
  6. I have a factory installed 45 watt solar system that is on my Winny Journey. I assume it was designed to keep a trickle charge on coach batteries when in storage? I want to increase the number of panels on the system to bring it to 200 watts. My thought is that this would support electronics such as computers, cell chargers and the like when boondocking. I can not locate a control box for the OEM charger unless it is built in to the utility controls in the hallway. That only has a LED to indicate that solar power is being produced. My question is, would the increase in panels and wattage require a new control? Can the solar 200 watts go straight to the coach battery without a control of some kind?
  7. I recently bought a ScanGuage D to monitor transmission temperatures, other system indicators, etc. Come to find out that the Allison 2000MH does not provide temperature to diagnostic port, therefore no temperature on ScanGuage! Short of dropping the pan and replacing same with aluminum cast pan with taps for temperature senders, anyone have any experience with installing a temp guage on this tranny?
  8. Thanks to All, I researched all options and finally decided to have a new WeatherPro awning installed by Campers World. My past dealings with them have not been terrific, but they were the low bidder by $500, so I let them do it. They did a satisfactory job, although they did take a shortcut that would change my overall performance rating from 5 to 3!
  9. Ditto: Journey 34' rear bedroom has egress style window with red handles to swing out. Would love to find a rope ladder to throw out, at 73 don't think I would want to bail out without a ladder of some sort. Anyone have any suggestions?
  10. One thing you will have to learn if you haven't already is to "DRIVE AHEAD OF YOURSELF", meaning before you pull into a parking lot or space, make sure you can get out without having to backup. Avoid one way or dead end road, alley's, shopping center perimeter roads with obstacles, or restricted turning spaces. Plan, look, insure parking spaces will give you enough room to get out. Park in such way that no one can block you in. Four wheelers will, if you give them the opportunity park both in front and behind you. I always park in a large retail store lot away from the customers and facing a concrete curb but leaving four or five feet to get out but not enough room for a car to get into the spot. I cut my wheels all the way in the direction to get out ensuring I can get clear. Last but not least, I always use Walmart or Sam'sClubs for parking if possible. Wherever you go, be sure to check for city signs that outlaw parking, especially in Florida. Check with and get permission from store management. I personally never leave my motor home unattended except to go in the store. If I need to visit locally and leave the MH unattended for more than a couple of hours, I will go to a campground. What you used to "get away with" in a class C, you will not be able to with a MH or large 5er. RV's are ATTRACTIVE NUISANCES, remember they draw criminals in parking lot's like flies to garbage.
  11. My two cents! I personally think extended warranty plans are not a good value because the majority of insurers do not play fair. It has been my experience that the insurance contracts are designed to enable the insurer to decline payment a substantial part of the time on items that you need to have covered. For instance, a friend had a engine fail catastrophically, metal shards all thru the engine. The insurer paid for the rebuild but would not pay for removal and overhaul of turbo because it had not failed. Within 10k miles the rebuilt engine failed again along with the turbo as a result of metal shards apparently in the turbo that spread through the engine again. Neither the rebuilder nor the insurer would stand by the repair. Had they authorized the flush ad tear down of the entire engine as is recommended by Cummins the second breakdown would likely not have occurred. Read the fine print, talk to your RV dealer (that does not sell extended warranties) service manager and get information as to which insurers pay for repairs without incident. Check with service people as to whether policy covers items necessary, components that frequently fail. When buying a used RV I have in the past accepted a extended warranty that I could get out of easily to drive the vehicle back home and to get some idea as to the condition of the vehicle. Once I was confident that the RV was OK, I canceled policy.
  12. So far as the beetles under the unit, is the wooden floor under your unit exposed? or is it covered with metal. Here in Georgia and perhaps elsewhere we have a wood boring beetle that is as destructive as termites. Suggest you examine flooring and/or any places that might allow access to wood flooring. Secondly I would put a few in a jar and take them to your county agricultural agent, he/she surely could tell you about them, where they come from, and how to get rid of them.
  13. What engine 12 or 24VDC Diesel?
  14. Has anyone converted a A&E OneStep1 awning motor which is no longer available to Carefree motor or weather Pro.
  15. LED's would brighten your light bar considerably, and the crossed feed of current could be cured with diodes you can get from Campers World and other RV supply places. Check the pigtails and make sure they have two contacts on bottom and are designed for the bulbs being used.
  16. Thanks for the info Herman. I will check with these guys Monday. Still need info on how to replace motor and how to deal with springs! Or any info anyone would have on rebuilding A&E onestep1 awning motors! Thanks for info
  17. Have OEM A&E OneStop1 POWER awning mounted on Winny Journey 2002. Recently the motor apparently died, fortunately in the retracted position. Went to two different RV service centers that both told me no replacement parts (motor) were available. Called the Dometic Customer Svc desk, they verified no parts available. (Dometic bought out A&E, probably to put them out of business) Can the motor be simply slide out of tube when rivets are removed without unwinding spring on other side? Need to find a A&E oneStep1 motor. Has anyone ever tried to repair one of these motors? Anyone rebuild them? Any info on how others have repaired their units would be appreciated.
  18. Thanks to all, without your help, i might have give up! I FOUND IT, three inches off the floor about six inches to the left of the steering wheel in a bracket. Don't know how i missed it at least ten times. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
  19. Still haven't found mine yet. Is it attached to or sticking out of the firewall? Or was your's just laying near the firewall by the floor? I did find a cable that was marked "display data" but it had a different kind of terminal end, flat with six connectors. I can't believe the factory doesn't seem to know where these things are. Must be wherever the assembler puts it from day to day. It must also mean that the dealers having these units in for diagnostic work do not ever road test the unit.
  20. Anyone have any info on replacing the awning motor on a 9100 series awning. Need a PDF doc, service manual for this project as well. All help would be appreciated.
  21. Thanks guys, I did not grow up around tornadoes and mistakenly thought a overpass was a good place to be as I often sought shelter under then for rain storms. Thanks again for the good information.
  22. HELP, HELP Bought a ScanGauge D to help monitor engine & Tranny. Can't find the front JPort (J1708) on my Journey 02. I have checked with both Winny and Freightliner had them check by VIN. drawings, and they both said, "YES, IT'S IN THERE". I have looked high and low under the dash and on firewall. IF YOU HAVE FOUND YOURS, PLEASE TELL ME WHERE YOU FOUND IT.
  23. I just replaced my coach batteries with new Duracell Low Maintenance Commercial Deep Cycles group 31, three of them. Bought them from Sam's Club at a price of $114.00 each. I originally sought to buy AGM's but at $260.00+- elsewhere. I decided to try Sam's Club. BTW they sell Group 31 Deep Cycle AGM's for $199.00 which is not a bad price, but I would have had to wait for them special order. Sam's club has a decent "no muss, no fuss" warranty of one year on the Duracell's. For the first time with this coach I am able to run the heater all night and still have 12.3 volts in the AM. What a improvement.
  24. I wanted a new to me coach with a little larger tow capacity, but I think I will keep my non-Def coach.
  25. My mileage for Winny, Journey 34' cummins, 275hp, Allison 2000MH, weight with Nissan Exterra toad around 29,000#. I get from 8.5 to 10.00 mpg. Tire pressure 100psi all around, 32# on toad. Best mileage on rolling hills interstate at 60-65 mph (sweet spot @ 1900rpm) on cruise control. Noticed a .50 difference between straight premium desisel and 10% bio mix.
