  1. I experienced an electrical incident at a Golden, Colo., RV park. I want to buy a 50-amp surge protector. There are several on the market, with varying prices. Any suggestions as to brand and model?
  2. Brett and Rich, Made it back to Lazy Days in Tucson. All wires were connected and not loose. The switch wires were burned on the top third, and the switch will have to be replaced. After I get a final report from Lazy Days I will let you guys know. Thanks for the advice.
  3. Set up camp in Denver June 15th. On June 16th late PM I noticed a bad electrical smell in my motorhome. After searching I found the AC transfer switch burnt and several wires and insulation on the top third of the switch were burnt. I immediately disconnected the AC shore power, turned off all breakers in the AC panel and kept looking for additional problems. Questions: has this happened to anyone out there? What could have caused this after 24 hours set-up with no problems?
  4. Huffypuff, My 2008 Ambassador has the same set-up as yours. Does our system automatically dump the water or do we have to purge the system manually? Also the same question with the fuel water separator. Thanks,
  5. Will be traveling from Twin Lakes, WI to St George, UT the end of this week. Any recommendations on RV parks and routes? We like interstates and travel 300 to 350 miles per day.
  6. Thanks John. Looks like the 18 oz product may fit the bill.
  7. Rich, Thanks for the web site. I will watch the video as soon as I get 4g service. You have helped a lot of folks with your advice.
  8. In Lafayette, LA. Had 11 inches of rain in 11 hours last week. My curb side rear slide cover was pulled from the channel by a large build-up of water. The ends are still held in place by screws. I am looking for advice on material to replace this cover. I really want good quality so I do not have to address problems for several years.
  9. Check Lowes, Home Depot. and Costo for ladders. You will spend about $180 for an expandable ladder but it is well worth it.
  10. "Entry level" motorhomes can be loaded with problems. My opinion is they are not built to be used full time. Hanko really hit the nail on the head. Good advice. I have been pushing quality control issues since I joined the forum. There are just more examples of what the industry needs to eliminate.
  11. On a recent trip from Tucson to Lafayette, LA we averaged 9.5 MPG with cruise set at 57 MPH. ISB 360 engine. 2008 40 Foot H/R Ambassador towing a 2013 CRV.
  12. Ron, Be careful of "entry level" class A motorhomes. Search this forum for any complaints on the unit you intend to buy. This should give you information required to make an informed decision. You could also consider a used motorhome with all the "bugs" worked out. Many good ones on the market in your price range.
  13. jleamont, I met a diesel tech in Tucson that told me she just had a Cummins in with 3,000,000 miles on it. Guess that speaks volumes.....
  14. Kerry, Let me also welcome you the the forum. I have owned two 5th wheels and now a 40 ft motorhome. Not only is the motorhome easier to maneuver, it is also much easier to park. The main disadvantage is when towing a car etc. You cannot back up the motorhome when towing a vehicle. That said, your wife can use the facilities, fix lunch, et while you are driving. No time lost. Also, if you drive into a camp site and it is pouring rain or worse snowing you can set up without ever leaving the coach. I definitely prefer the motorhome over the 5th wheel.
  15. Rich and Tom, Thanks for your replays. I do want to keep my rig in good mechanical shape. As a result I will renew my Cummins Power Club membership. This is another example of the value of this forum!!
  16. I received a free one year membership in the Cummins Power Club. I now have a request to renew my membership for another year. I am asking if there is any benefit to this club. Thee are no Cummins dealers in Tucson, the nearest is in Phoenix. There are so many "clubs" an RVer can join, I am looking for feedback if any of you found value in the Cummins Club.
  17. Wayne et All, I used the clothes pin to protect the parking brake to insure my dog will not accentually push down and release the brake. I also used plastic covers to protect the switches. Thanks again to all for your suggestions.
  18. Wayne, Great suggestion. I will have the rig at my home on Monday and will try your fix.
  19. Newbie, Great question. I have a 2008 H/R Ambassador. If I want to dump the air to lower the coach before leveling I hold down the Air Dump switch. Now when I go to level it says the engine must be running when leveling. All that does is air up the system while leveling. Seems counter productive to me. Any help/comments would be appreciated.
  20. Thanks guys for all your help. I have used plastic containers to cover the switches and use a cup to cover the parking brake release knob. We love traveling with our dog but she does provide a few challenges!!
  21. Ross, Thank you very much for taking time with me to discuss options. This is another example of the great benefits for being an FMCA member.
  22. Thanks for the feedback. I will check out the FMCA program and make a decision. I do like the fact that FMCA is backed by an insurance company.
  23. We are planning on an extended trip later this year. I am in good health but one never knows. Does anyone out there have any experience with Good Sam Travel Assist or suggest any other program? It would be comforting to know that we had a back-up plan if I were unable to get the rig home.
  24. J M Golden, Thanks for the reply. I was beginning to feel like the Lone Ranger out here. Everyone is complaining about quality but no one is doing anything about it.
  25. We have a Blue Ox tow system but purchased the Air Force One braking system for the tow vehicle. Everything is permanently mounted. All you need to do is hook-up all the lines etc, check your lights, and go.
