Narrow Bridges/ Bridges With Weight Limits
jleamont replied to MoFro's question in Destinations/Attractions
Wow, this is an interesting topic. I will agree watch your head up here!! Many covered bridges and just low bridges. We watched a guy in a C (old Ford E series from the 80's) cross a covered bridge next to a CG, while the bridge opening was tall enough the sign hanging on the chains was lower, when he entered you could hear it drag all the way across his roof as he entered, I guess he thought he was going to get stuck, all we herd was the 4bbl open up and he shot out the other side, I don't remember ever laughing that hard since . Saw him the next day on our morning walk in the CG he broke the AC cover and the roof vent max air covers. He got lucky! we still laugh about that. He was also over loaded on that bridge, weight limit was only 3 tons . Carl, I'm not sure you can walk down the roads up here without a helmet . -
Brett, I ordered this one http://www.jegs.com/i/Derale/259/15850/10002/-1. I spoke to their tech support department, they told me it would be a good fit for Diesel Fuel. I have no space to add it to the coolant package, I do have a large spot to the side of it and behind into the engine bay area. I'm not crazy about the fan (more work to install) but if there isn't adequate air flow I will need to create it. I cant seem to locate a thermostatic switch low enough to auto turn it on, so I am thinking the mud flap might shove air upwards while driving and it will be enough to keep it cool (so maybe there is a reason for the flap on my coach.... Flap sits behind where this will be mounted). If not I will install the fan on it that it comes with and wire it up. Really thanking myself for pulling one 8 conductor trailer wiring harness down the spine when I replaced the fuel lines in 2014 just incase I needed it. So far it has come in handy. My plan is to mount it toward the front of the coach on a 45 degree angle forward of the filter in the picture (it is soon to be leaving). I'm guessing that there is air flow coming up from there as the flap is mounted just beyond that. Besides, if it ever leaks it wont spray fuel onto the engine. I think the coach name will have to change to Frankencoach

I would just run the RV antifreeze through all of it, spring time run the ice maker until it produces clear ice cubes. Sanitize the fresh system and run the ice maker off of the tank to get the chlorine through the system. I have a friend that tried the blowing of the lines....needless to say he flooded his unit first trip out. Good thing for him I had a spare water pump and shark bite fittings. RV antifreeze is cheap insurance, my coach when I had a washer dryer combo unit was 6 gallons, now 5 for the entire unit (washer removed). Less than $20.00 its all safe. Five, do you have a ceramic heater in your wet bay tied to the Aqua Hot system? I leave those on all winter set to 40 degrees.

Any reason why the surge protector was not connected at the house? Mine trips at home from voltage spikes more often then I choose to acknowledge . Happened yesterday as a matter of fact while I was standing next to it...must be my electrifying personality .

Rich, I checked the temps at 1/2 tank. I fill at the 1/2 mark. I always used additives now.

Forgot to mention; fuel temps were running 20-30 degrees hotter than ambient with the fuel tank bay almost sealed off. I think I will add a cooler with a thermostat switch. We ran it from PA to AL, AL to New Orleans, back to TN, then to PA average ambient temps was in the 90's at the time. At one point I opened the fuel cap and got a fog of steam , I got my heat gun and shot it into the tank, fuel temp was 118 degrees, seems a bit high to me. Any thoughts?

HayesFamily. Before parking the unit for the season I add a fuel stabilizer and top off the tank with gasoline. I would also run the generator for a bit under load to make sure the fuel stabilizer has been circulated through the generator. Motor oils and filters: run what the engine manufacture recommends. It's your safest bet especially if you are under manufactures warranty. I always go over my oil spec requirements never under. If you save your receipts getting warranty on an engine failure shouldn't be a problem.

Back home now. Did some more work today on this fuel system modification. I hooked up the fuel pressure gauge which is between the 2nd filter and the fuel injection pump. The factory design is strange when the lift pump shuts down in 30 seconds and the injection pump takes over. Monitoring that factory design on a gauge is scary. Sitting in the drivers seat with the engine running and watching the gauge fall to 3psi is gut wrenching. Almost complete and ready to make the final connections. Should be complete this week weather permitting.

We saw a bunch of that when we traveled through Texas in December 2013. Almost if not all of the sites were workers in trailers that resembled FEMA trailers. Fortunately we got a spot but it was odd seeing that. I don't recal KOA being worse but every CG we stopped at had them.

Yea, I was thinking the same as it was unfolding you never know what you will find while working on these things.

Bill, I was considering doing something like this to our fiberglass roof. I have it buffed once a year. Is there any annual maintenance after?

I just experienced a problem with our coach. While on shore power when the AC unit would turn on the lights would blink and power would be halted to the coach from my surge protector. I started the generator, worked fine...hmm ATS malfunction? So I turn on some loads inside while on shore power, I look at my surge protector, I am only pulling power from L2 (18 amps) L1 00 amps...hmmm. I pull the plug and it's cracked in a few spots. I replace the plug reconnect to my surge protector and everything works. Just wanted to share that story.

We looked at a Blue Bird Wanderlodge two years ago. Loved it !! They are solid built coaches!

Ahh, got it Thanks! we do the same while on the road, mostly DW uses her book, "the next exit" or the highway signs. Every time we make a reservation it always turns into a rush to get there, and some traffic mess puts us so late it's not worth the reservation, or I'm exhausted and don't want to drive that far.

Herman, don't know if they take Passport. Regular price was $69.00 for a site with a fire place. Good thing we are only here for 6 nights. What is Passport? Several have asked me if certain places accept that. Annual fee etc like Thousand Trails?
-
Yea, no cooking over that fire

8050', wow . never been to Colorado, have family there somewhere. DW won't go "too cold" is all I get when mentioned. Walking around TN today 82 degrees, 70 dew point she wants a sweat shirt .

Our site at Anchor Down.
-
Carl, now I get it.
-
Bill, do what Herman suggested. They are common valves. I believe some replacements are all metal also. You will get it faster and much cheaper. Get that thing ready...September is approaching.
-
Herman, I like you way of thinking . we do the same, I put it on a CCArd that has the best rewards. Pay it off when I get home. I now use the RV pilot flying J card for fuel. The discount per gallon is great and it has no interest. That's how I "save money" when we travel. You only live once, have fun and enjoy!
