  1. So sad and so true Carl. Those days are gone and that is why we have the "Cardasians or Jenner's" all around us today. The world comes and goes in circles, we can only hope that era returns again someday!
  2. I like that phrase! I will use this going forward....thanks Carl!
  3. Bill, I prefer the Texas version.
  4. Judge and Carl, I am very apprehensive when it comes to truck stop washes when they are performing the labor. I have a friend that brought his truck to one and they sprayed a wheel cleaner on his wheels that was a heavy concentrate of aluminum cleaner acid designed for wheels without clear coat. His wheels were polished with clear coat and they had turned yellow by the following day and began to peel shortly after. They never asked or explained what was going to take place and he was left holding the bag in the end. The people running those places seem to be short on experience, training and knowledge. I prefer to keep people like that as far away from my coach as possible.
  5. Herman, thank you. He is still around, stops over every so often since he moved up to PA from TN. Since he spent most of his life weekend camping then FT with a motorhome for a few years, he drops in to see what I have done with the coach, sits inside and just takes it all in with a smile. Never thought of the doppelgänger....but yes that's it. I am pretty sure he was or is an FMCA member, I know he also had the lifetime GS membership, I will have to ask. Herman, just dawned on me....he also served in the Navy, the world is small!
  6. Tom, good point! Its been a while since they were on here also.
  7. aldebruijn, Also not a fan of the new interior floor plans. It seems like the tactful thought process to maximize the space is fading into the past. Every year we go to Hershey and walk around, mostly for gadgets, check out campgrounds to help plan for the following year and to say high to the folks at the FMCA booth. We will on occasion walk through new units just to see what is going on with them. Every year my wife and I have this same conversation and it seems to be getting worse, it looks like the people designing motorhomes are not people that use them. The quality also seems to be fading while the price tags are climbing.
  8. Ken, I tow a 2003 Wrangler Sport with a 3.5" lift and 35" tires. No issues with tire wear or tracking. As long as the steering column was unlocked and the tow bar is level you should be fine. I did see a person one time towing a Ford Ranger that forgot to unlock the steering column, chewed the front tires off and damaged the steering linkage in a 40 mile trip.
  9. Bill, not sure if we could handle those temps, lol. after all its a whopping 7 degrees this morning.
  10. Carl, I got the same message. I also agree with you, I love reading Toms blogs and comments for that matter. i don't usually comment on them, just enjoy the story.
  11. Judgebobk, good to know, we have often thought of stopping at one for a wash, now I will pass by
  12. Windsore, welcome to the FMCA forum! Sorry to hear of your problem. check the electrical connection to the left of the fuel pump. I replaced my pump last year and I remember having difficulty locking the connection, it is a round metal connector that is a twist lock and you have to disconnect it to access the pump. Depending on your floor access it should be a simple check, also poke around back there and make sure they didn't damage any wiring. I am assuming your coach is Cummins powered.
  13. Just bought one for our coach on eBay. Cummins part number I obtained from Cummins/onan. I found it on line but the shipping was more than the belt, my local dealer didn't have it in stock and again the shipping was expensive. We have a 2001 7500 Onan and the part number is 511-0235. I picked it up for $14.00. I tried the local Napa to cross the Cummins number but they couldn't. Generator model: HDKAH series D. If you go to the onan website you can decode your generator and call them for a parts breakdown. I have no idea how old our belt is, I figured when I service it in a few weeks I am just going to replace it. Seems like good insurance for $14.00, no shipping from eBay
  14. We still have power! Not sure how the wind is 40-60 mph, the snow is up to the door handles on my wife's 2012 Ford Explorer, none on the roof of the cars due to the high winds. Great day to stay inside and....oh look it's 5:00 here. If you are up in the NE be careful.Local weather is saying we could end up with 30-40" of snow. Herman, Carl, Brett, any room in Texas for another DP? Lol
  15. Same here, and I clean off the splattered mess all around the drive shaft from fresh lube purging from the caps.
  16. Carl, love corn bread, my oldest daughter as well, she also makes it. Funny you mentioned it, my grandfather's family were Quakers/Masons....even funnier Herman's profile picture, he looks just like my grandfather, especially with the hat. Herman I have been waiting for the moment to mention it. He also was into RV'ing, pretty sure that where I go it from. He was also a retired trucker, probably how I landed into this business as well. OBEDB is frozen! Same here he lives 50 miles west of me straight up RT30. The temp this morning was 16 degrees, 12-18" of snow headed this way around 6pm tonight.
  17. Carl, will do or, July 22nd we check into a new campground in Rehoboth DE for the weekend, if your in the area stop over and take a look around the campground. From the plans (under construction now) it looks like a winner! The last CG these people bought in Ocean City MD is one of my favorites. www.Masseyslanding.com
  18. Yes they are, I have a switch on the dash labeled "Eng Pre Heat" that powers up an outlet in the engine bay that the block heater is plugged into. My friends Tiffin has a plug in a side compartment for the block heater hanging by an outlet. Its unknown if he has a switch some where to power up the outlet or if its live all the time. Although it has a tag on the wire advising not to leave it plugged in all the time. I have to test the outlet when the weather breaks to see if it's switched somewhere.
  19. Both trips out west we didn't tow, at the time our class C wouldn't have been able to make the journey with the jeep behind us (heavier than the tow rating on the coach). But with the class C I could go more places than I can with the DP so it wasn't too bad. We planned on renting a car if needed but in the end it was ok and never had to. I couldn't imagine not having the jeep now. On occasion if we are camping at a place we have no intention of leaving the campground (weekend trips) I will leave the toad at home, isn't often anymore.
  20. Carl, I have a recipe from Texas, no beans in this house! I won 2nd place last year in a contest with it. I manage quite well with BBQ and Chili (smoker at the house). I was trying to go to Springfield in August, but that doesn't look good, I have a birthday party camping trip that just came up that weekend in the mountains of PA for my friend that just bought his first DP (on another post). I am thinking trying for 2017 and just use vacation time, the DW was concerned the teenagers would be board so I have to do some homework on what's going on for them or if its at a place for them to day trip out with the Jeep and leave me behind at the rally it would be a big help. We need to get together and photo both Jeeps together since they look so much alike. The only Blizzard I like is the one from DQ also, not looking forward to this.
  21. Carl, thanks for the advice. I could probably get away with an older Prevost since they do not have slides and she hates slides. I wont see them until March (custom built), good thing....I have been changing out my dash panel from the dull gray factory to wood grained to match the rest of the controls I replaced earlier in the year. I am trying to figure out if I want to mount my "Scan Gauge" in the dash like it came that way from HR or just locate a simple home for it without going crazy. Plus, we are expecting 16"-24" snow storm with Blizzard conditions Friday into early Sunday so I am making sure the house generator is ready for the event and my snow blower is tuned up and the usual, wine, cheese stocked up etc... Think I am going to make some homemade Chili for the weekend and just relax. I have to ask Puff what software he uses to compress photos, seems like my cell phone photos are much to clear to post on here. My old phone worked fine the new I-phone the pixels are too high.
  22. Trynforpar, we ran this trip two times. Starting in PA I went out I-76 west to I-70 west to St Louis (watch the signs for I-44 its easily missed, I missed it and the DW still reminds me often) I-44 south to I-40 west. I-40 we love the scenery and stops along the way. Grand Canyon railway campground in Williams AZ is great. I recommend taking the steam engine up to the Grand Canyon from the campground. Williams AZ is a neat town to walk around. Route 66 parallels I-40, we jumped on and off I-40 and strolled through some of the small towns and took in all of the old traveling history. I love Route 66 history so that was a highlight for me. We ate at the "Big Texan steak ranch" in Amarillo TX, stayed at the campground close by and the Big Texan picked us up in a 1970's Caddy limo, that was neat. We also stopped at a gas station from the Disney movie 'Cars" took a picture of the Motorhome at the old glass top gas pumps in Shamrock TX. Good place to eat if you like classic cars is Russell's Truck Stop and Museum in Endee New Mexico, decent food neat place to walk around. Just off I-40 at RT392.
  23. I went round and round with this thought when we bought this coach in 2014. I looked all over the unit for a place to hide a wheel and tire assembly and finally came to the reality I was going to sign up for roadside assistance. I have all of the tools on board, jack and calibrated torque wrench but somewhere in the last year and a half I lost the ambition to change a flat tire.
