    Generator

Bill, I run a GE residential refrigerator. We have not dry camped with it, when I installed it in 2014 I let it cool down in at home on battery to see how long it would go. We have an auto start/stop generator and after 7 hours I was at 65% on the batteries. It was not a fair test since the unit was warm and it was 80 degrees outside so it was working harder than usual but it gave me a ruff estimate on what to expect. I will say running down the road on the inverter has not been a problem either. The model we settled on is basic and one feature by design I liked was the location of everything for service, its all accessible from the side wall access panel. No modifications had to be made to fit it in I just trimmed it when I was complete so it looked like it belonged.
  2. Herman, I have and my DW tells me that often....several times a day as a matter of fact.
  3. Kay, I will measure it and see what my options are. I have a Seaward Princess model 2276 propane now that is recessed into the counter. I did locate sizes on the web for it but I wanted to measure it anyway just in case I have an older version and something changed. I planned on measuring it last night but it started to snow . thanks, Joe
  4. Lawrence, I replaced ours with a GE unit, I put it through a side window to get it in and the old 1200LRIM out. Same as Herman here, the GE runs great on the standard 2000 watt standard inverter. The selling point for me was the cost and all of the mechanical stuff is right at the side wall opening when you pull the exterior panel off the coach. I closed off the roof vent closed off the side wall vent (screened it in and applied foam insulation to seal it off) screwed it into the floor on the front back and top front with angle brackets from Home Depot. Bought trip from Home Depot to finish around the unit, I stained the trim to match the rest of the interior. capped off the gas line at the closest fitting in the cabinet below the fridge and leak tested it with soapy water. My entrance door must be smaller than Herman's, the new one wouldn't fit in through the opening, heck I can barley fit through the door, lol We love it!
  5. I found this on the web: http://www.biggamegrinders.com/product_detail_22976.aspx#product_descriptions Is there a manufacture that has a direct replacement option to swap out a propane unit? I have room to cut out the Corian to make it larger, smaller is not an option. Any thoughts preferences on manufactures? Anyone with a coach that has one from the factory, what manufacture is it equipped with?
  6. Yep, those covers are the set back when it comes to completing a task quickly. My generator doesn't clear the front of the coach when its all the way out, so you have to twist your body around to reach the rear of it, not horrible but tricky.
  7. Carl, LOL! It sits outside all year, along side the garage on a gravel bed. Too many years of being a Mobile Fleet Technician. It only hurts my aching bones in the beginning of the winter season, then I adapt. I am trying to rush spring, I figured if the coach is ready it will come faster.
  8. WOW, nice job! That shop should be embarrassed!
  9. I had considered switching over from propane in the coach since we have a 2 burner Princess cook top and it's tough to use. Also it is the only thing in the coach now that is propane and I have a 50 gallon tank underneath which takes up useable space and adds significant weight to the coach. Kay what is the amperage draw? No special wiring or heavier gauge required?
  10. Bill, that doesn't sound like fun! Puff is the Ambassador on a hydraulic slide like the Imperial? Great for access, looks expensive when it breaks.
  11. Jim, changed mine today, I did the same thing you did. Unbolted the waterpump pulley, installed the new belt lined the holes up with a drift pin and ran the bolts in. It took me longer to remove the wall on the genset then to change the belt. While I was at it I changed the oil and filter, coolant, fuel filter, radiator cap, thermostat and gasket and the air filter. Ran it through a full warm up for an hour with both roof top heat pumps on for a test run when I was done
  12. Haha, I had a mechanic at a dealership do the same to a brand new Lincoln LS just off the car carrier for PDI. The sunroof kept blowing fuses, so he jumped the fuse with a paperclip and "was going to smoke out the short" so he explained to me afterwards. The headliner caught fire behind him while he was sitting in the drivers seat looking forward, little beads of fire were dripping onto the back seat. FOUND IT! Factory pinched the harness in the headliner access panel.
  13. Did the same Bill in July 08. What a treat that trip was, loved the hole concept with the limo etc. That was the 1st long RV vacation my family ever took and I must say it wrote the book to where we are now. My kids were 6 and 8 at the time and the RV adventure was fresh to us and boy did we have a blast on that trip from PA to CA (Disneyland) and Back. Even though gas was $4.50 per gallon and our old class c was lucky to get 7.0 it was still a bunch of fun. Last time in Nashville we stayed at the KOA next to the Jellystone Bill Mentioned above, it was a nice place also. I will never forget they had a Wine tasting at the pool at night for adults, the women serving it were handing out the cups.....1 for you...1 for me, oh and 1 for you sir and 1 more for me... we still laugh about that, another great trip!
  14. Thanks Herman for the information.
  15. We stayed at Pine Mountain RV park, the campground had clean sites were nice and roomy, concrete sites with asphalt roads. The one thing we didn't like was the pool. They have a kiddy pool at the campground and the regular pool is at their affiliate Best Western across the street. We traveled straight through Pigeon Forge on RT321 and it wasn't too bad to get to theCG, maybe 5-8 cars in front of us at each light. This trip was July 7th 2014. This year we are booked at Anchor Down campground in Dandridge TN.
  16. Agreed! Want to know the quality of something, ask a certified repair technician, their response will wake you up!
  17. Thank you for the information. I was thinking about it not to save the unit as much as it give you a better chance if getting out before it goes up. My boat also had a system in it, I cant recall the manufacture, it was probably the only thing that didn't need some sort of repair while I had it. Tom, I saw mac's recommended products on the web and his product was one I was considering. Our engine bays are probably similar since both units have the same power, chassis and body manufacture, we have a significant amount of room back there, which makes Brett's point stick more of how effective it would be. My boat the engine bay was sealed with the exception of the Bilge pump. I will have to give it some more consideration before making a purchase. Thank you
  18. If I had a Prevost I don't think I would sleep in my house.
  19. Dan, I am in the process of replacing one window in our coach that has fogged. it happens to be the drivers window (small sliding section), I found this company www.rvglassexperts.com to be the most reasonable price for section of window to be replaced. Once you make the purchase you would have to locate someone in the area to perform the installation or do it yourself.
  20. Just ordered my tank from Source Engineering, I have the 2nd version (Factory replacement Nylon version) one with the bottom sensor and it is starting to crack and leak where the lines connect to it on top and around the coolant sensor on the side. Jim at Source was great to work with, thanks for the link and information.
  21. Anyone ever retrofit a fire suppression system into a coach engine compartment? Any kit recommendations specific manufactures etc? I am considering installing a system in our DP and their is a bunch of information on the web with different designs options and a wide variety of pricing.
