  1. Mid July. Depends on when you can make it. I no longer rush unless necessary.
  2. Carl/ we could meet in Amarillo for a visit to the Big Texan Steakhouse and then head to the San Luis Valley. I know that there are some jeep trails in the east end in the Sangre de Cristo range and at least two Fourteeners near by. Lake City is loaded with jeep trails as I am sure you know, that way if we bore you head there. We will probably head that way after we overload on the valley anyway. Buy you dinner at Packers or Southern Vittles. Love their gumbo.
  3. Have an acquaintance that is chief mechanic for Spring Garden Township in York County PA.Like Ray, he works on everything. from fire trucks, ambulances, patrol cars, snow plows, all of the way to chain saws and power blowers. In his early fifties. Probably have a nice pension when the time comes.
  4. Hey! It looks classy with the bra. If things don't work out with the removal, your DP still looks fine.
  5. Seems like this fits here . A gun is like a parachute. If you need one and don't have it , you probably won't need one again.
  6. What about the decal thing hidden behind the bra?
  7. If you make it to Silverton one way or the other, find the Handle Bar Saloon for some sustenance. Our pick every time we go to Silverton.
  8. You know/ I have always liked the smell of a diesel exhaust. One of my failings. I have the current issue of Motorhome magazine here. The Sumo Springs are advertised in color. They have the same cheap looking construction of a different set that I tried on our Georgie Boy II 34 Gasser probably around 1990. Kinda flimsy looking to me IMHO.
  9. Joe's installation looks professional. My thought is handing a 280lb refrigerator through a window. Wow! I am heading over to excercise the generator and throw a charge into batteries. While the gen is running, I am going to a nearby RV repair center to ask them about taking the Dometic out. Once the new fridge is in the coach, I think that I will be all right. If I can't handle it, I will call the Lone Ranger (Joe). It will probably be a basic Samsung because that is what Joe installed and a number of other members have also said they work with a MSW inverter/charger. I don't need ice water through the door or an icemaker. Just a freezer large enough to accommodate two ice trays. Yea Carl/ finally heading into the 21st century.
  10. My goal is to leave Stewartstown early July. I forgot about Olathe Sweet Corn. Another advantage to being there in the summer. The City Market in Alamosa is always well stocked. Anybody reading this should look for some if you want the world's best corn. Lake City must offer a lot of good riding. Many RVers show up with their ATVs
  11. Gary, We just talked ourselves into another trip to Colorado. Glacier/ maybe next year. Gonna follow I-81 to I-40 across Tennessee west ro Amarillo. Take a stop at the Big Texan Steakhouse for Rockie Mountain Oysters (delicious 1/2 order/ full order would be too much) split a chicken fried steak order( portions are large there) two beers for me and a Margarita for Betty and be there in time for the band that travels table to table . Met the fiddler last year but too early for the music. Really a neat place. Some back roads out of Amarillo that I have learned over the years on my way to Alamosa with bushel baskets made in Jacksonville Texas for the salad spinach growers much of which was shipped back east. Head to Walsenburg CO west over Laveta Pass and then we are in a really special part of Colorado. When we head west from there we will cross one of my favorite passes Wolf Creek on our way to Durango. Anybody want to tag along?
  12. We love the San Luis Valley. Largest alpine valley in the world. Pleasant days and cool nights in the summer. Great Sand Dunes National Park. Even an Alligator farm, and if still there, the True Grit Steakhouse (John Wayne theme) in Alamosa. Parked across the street at the Loaf and Jug and enjoyed steaks and huge baked potatoes. Might not be on the preferred route of John Harris but the bonus is a pretty ride across the valley and Wolf Creek Pass on the way to Durango. The name really is the Alpen Rose.
  13. Gotta get a residential refrigerator. I have always hated the worry of being off level. Understand the newer fridges are more forgiving, and although I was really careful with our first Dometic , I have grown weary of remembering to ask DW to run back to turn the unit off before anticipated off level situations.
  14. Why not put the additives in there, fill maybe half or so, run it all day, and dump when you get where you are going, or run the mix another day, and then dump? Just a thought.
  15. If you are running I-40 exit at Clines Corners, head north on US 285 to well north of Sante Fe on 285 and then join US84 north to Pagosa Springs. Interesting Town. West on US160 to Durango. No mountains at all. The RV park of choice for most is Alpen Rose. An older park so you will be close to your neighbors. Marginal cable. Typical park wifi, but there is a Bay and Pinto in the adjoing pasture that run together and love carrots and apples. Nice large fenced in area for dogs, and a good view of the Durango and Silverton Railroad. Gary is from Rocky Ford Colorado, an RVer and a great source of info. Keep your travels on I-70 to a minimum and you will probably enjoy yourselves more in Colorado. Gary may disagree, but those are my thoughts.
  16. I have run across northern AZ on US160 to Cortez and US 191 north thru Moab to I-70. Also US 491 north from Cortez to US191 and then north. All of those a number of times over the years mostly in 18wheelers and some in our first class a. Sure looks like Cortez would get you in the area you want to be. Mesa Verde is worth a look if you have time. I can be of help to you in Colorado because I have trucked and vacationed in motorhomes there quite a lot. A lot members on this website have also spent time there.
  17. I have photos that I want to attach to my profile gallery and I have tried many times over the months. I can't make it work, and although a trucker I am not stupid when it concerns things computer. I am using an iPad because they handle digital camera to computer easily. Sending photos from the iPad photo albums via email is very simple. Why the trouble to my profile gallery? Help!!
  18. Have seen several of them in my travels over the years, but never the inside. When I read Vogue I knew what I would be looking at. An absolute classic. When you pull into RV parks cameras might come out.
  19. Joe. I have seen that video. 13speed tranny I think. Back in the day they were used to power turnpike doubles. Drivers had a special license I heard those guys refer to them as "trains" and the engine had an exciting sound even when idling.
  20. Joe/ What a day in Williamsburg!!! Frightening!!! We have a Dometic New Dimension Refeigerator that came with the coach so that makes it 13 years old. Ray said the two heating elements on the Norcold units are responsible for the the cracks. Gotta figure a similar setup on the Dometic. I visited the aftermarket safety device linked by the OP. It is not expensive but Ray is a smart man and he was not impressed with it. Good enough for me. This all blows up my thoughts about running on 120 for safety. Now what do I do? The coach breakers and fuses are mounted directly below the Dometic. That will probably make a difficult fit for a residential refrigerator, narrowing size and choice plus the charger inverter is a MSW. Might need a pure sine wave unit. More money. The Dometics are quite expensive and possibly the Norcold units also. Seems to me that coach builders could soon start offering residential units as standard equipment in more models than just the high end stuff and save money in the process.
  21. Brett/ At my age I really don't want to spend several thousand $$$ on a domestic refrigerator unless I have to. I have seen Joe's installation and it is remarkable that he was able to do all of that for that amount of money and with only his DWs help. Of course he is 28 years younger than me and a talented wrench. I am not worried about the efficiency factor when I am plugged into park power or for that matter, if I was able to get the unit up our steep driveway and plug in here. My question/ are my conclusions about fire hazards when plugged into 120 ac correct? If not, then I need to consider a domestic refrigerator. If I am wrong about the lack of a fire hazard please tell me. Not my area of expertise , and THOSE areas are few.
  22. Lesson learned by me. Run the fridge on a/c. Criticism of my conclusion welcome. We travel with pets and when we leave them in the RV we worry about them. Cats are not eager to jump into a vehicle. Dogs usually are.
  23. I have just finished research on what causes fires in RV absorption refrigerators. If I understand the website, when there is a rupture of the system containing ammonia and some hydrogen, and there is a substantial heat (propane burner) a fire could occur. My take away from this is that an electric heat source would not generate temperatures high enough to cause a fire. I still have not acquired the ability to post a hyperlink for the website. Maybe one of these days!! aegforensics.com
  24. Joe's is an '02. There are a couple of things on our '03 Phaeton that we like a little better, but overall his HR is really nice. Being a talented wrench, he is even making it nicer. Stop and visit with him on your way to Massachusetts.
