The kerosene cans from Tractor Supply are a heavier gauge plastic, but reusing containers is a good idea. Filling containers at a diesel island and then pumping it into the DEF tank after fueling seems a lot easier then having a truck stop employee close off a pump island for a DP to flip around in order to fill directly from the pump. A busy truckstop would first require the attendant to put the cone behind someone setting in line to fill, or luckily behind a truck at the pumps with nobody behind him. Could cause a little resentment if observed by some of America's hardest working employees. Unless you have done it, you couldn't possibly understand what I mean. Turnover rate for drivers is very high. The Keroworld battery powered pump is rated at 1.8 gallons per minute. I understand that it does not take much DEF per gallon of fuel to keep a rig rolling. My last truck was a 2001 Western Star and our coach is a 2003 Phaeton. I missed all of the associated fun?.

JS/ I remember reading on this website that the Crosstrek has a steering issue when towed 4 down. The ignition should be left in the on position because the steering system is electrically controlled? Meaning you would need a hot wire from the MH to the toad to keep the battery charged. Not needed on our Forester. Also I have mentioned this before/ I was told by a Subaru sales lady with many years of experience that Subaru Corporate is planning on eliminating manual transmissions on all but the Crosstrek. At this point who knows?

Subarus with manual transmissions have been towed four wheels down in neutral for years. Have seen it behind the windshield of an 18 wheeler. I think that it is Subarus's legal department at work. In the grand scheme of their marketing, tow behinds are a tiny part of their production. Just a few short months ago everything was OK, but now they are not responding. Lawyers!! I have towed our 2012 Forester for 9000 miles. Others have towed them far longer. Everything on ours is perfect. Tire wear etc. Would Blue OX make base plates easily obtainable at dealers if there was a liability in doing so.? I will keep towing ours. If it breaks behind my 7500 pound towbar I will deal with it. Drag it to the side of the road and call a tow company?

DEF is non flammable. It is 32.5 percent urea and 67.5 deionized water. What I hope is a novel idea. Purchase two 5 gallon kerosene jugs from Tractor Supply or other sources. Place masking tape on the jugs and mark them with the most recent purchase date and quantity. When you stop for diesel, fill a jug with DEF and note amount and date. Rich, of Dick and Lois, notes that there is a relatively short shelf life on DEF. A year or so. Purchase a Kero World Kerosene pump from local sources or the net. $16 or so plus tax. They use two D Cell batteries and work very well. Working on our third year pumping kerosene for supplemental heat with one and have a new pump in reserve. You save 30 to 40 cents over buying it by the 2.5 container in Wally's World and you don't have to PO the dreaded grouchy trucker. Not me though. Always enjoyed filling up next to or behind a DP. Dreamed of owning one and now we do.??

Don't use DEF but I have not seen a nozzle on both sides at the fuel islands. Seems to be primarily on the driver's side.

Can I contact you on your regular email address? If so let me know what it is. Tried once before to tell you about the USMC Sergent Major I met and shared a bathroom with. You may enjoy the account. Old WWII BOQ with no brass present. Just us E-4s and E-5s except for him!!!

If your chassis is equipped a Sheppard M100 steering gear that is probably the source of your poor handling. The discussion occurred on 15 October 2014. The M100 can be replaced by a specific TRW gear. Apparently the Unadjustable sheppard gear starts out new with up to an 1 1/2 inches of center play. Probably gets worse as the unit ages. Could be your problem. Do some research. Maybe a member with knowledge of the gear problem will weigh in. Good luck.

Think of the Tesla meltdowns. Did I read that air lines will no longer carry lithium batteries as freight? Heard many negatives, but I would have to do some research.

Unless I have missed something and I have watched your thread develop, almost don't want to weigh in but!! Why do you think that you need an alignment? Your weights seem to be OK. All within tolerance. Tires wearing ok? You have not mentioned steering pulling to one side. Poor handling. Sometimes driver perception, expecting a large vehicle to handle like a car. Just curious?

I am hearing stuff that I can identify with, but ours was gas powered in 1988. Spent a lot of time, effort, and dollars. It all worked . Pass anything but a gas pump. Love the way our current diesel unit pulls and the noise is in the back. Being a trucker, I don't expect heavy units to perform that way anymore. Got a little jealous of the diesel powered rigs. I went from terrible to overdoing the gas unit performance. You will probably buy another unit before you give up the RV lifestyle. We did and love it.

I also grew frustrated looking at online advertisements. Maybe the owners bought elsewhere and ended their motorhomeIng in Florida or other southern states? We found our Phaeton by reading a local newspaper. It was 44 miles away in Taneytown MD. Garage kept and beautiful. Inside and out. When we went back to pick up our "new to us" coach there was a gorgeous Holiday Rambler with black body paint and high lighted graphics topped with a gelcoat, and a side radiator setting in a grass lot with a Sale sign. Too late. Money had changed hands. Never called on it, but it looked expensive. Joe found his nearby. We did also. Check area dealers if you can't find anything else. Dealers always price used stuff high. Hoping for a home run or to be able to over allow on a trade for a new coach. Inventory/ new or used is overhead ($ interest) and the sales manager doesn't want them to set there too long. Might be looking for another job. Make them an offer that is a little low based on research, and give them your name and number. If you get a quick call back, you might try telling them that you are looking at another unit. Try dropping the price you offered a bit and see what happens. Traveling a thousand or so miles can be a crap shoot. Have talked to a few that were disappointed after poorly represented units that looked good in pictures.

Brett/ Colorado uses traction material/ sand basically on most of there wintertime roads. Been there done that many times in the winter.,Spread salt on a pass and the temp drops low enough that salt doesn't work and CDOT will have a mess on their hands . The climate in Colorado is semi arid almost everywhere. California is quite dry as well but they do have salt spray in coastal areas. I am going with Colorado to shop for a used RV. The state is an RVer's paradise. So much beauty instate and nearby. Count the Texas tags in Colorado when cool temps are desired. Lake City Colorado would not survive without Texans. Gets a little damp where you spend your winters I think.
-
At the risk of sounding negative, Colorado to California to look at a used coach is a long way. Look for " Formerly Owned" in nearby locations. Gotta be a lot of them in Colorado, or nearby locations.

An electrician needs help!!! How are the manufacturers helping us to enjoy an expensive past time? We. Need some standards that all techs can deal with and some adventurous owners.?

Maybe low on fluid? Can you get a good look at the reservoir when cold?

Don't know about silver leaf. I now have the hardware and will hopefully have it useable before leaving this summer, but EGT gauges have been around for 40 years or more on diesel powered trucks. Had one on my 400hp big cam Cummins in my first Peterbilt . Depends on where the probe is installed as to temp redline. My exhaust manifold had removable plugs before and after the turbo. Mine came with the sender installed down stream of the turbo, but Hewitt EGT gauge had a guarantee and suggested a more accurate temp would be achieved by installing the probe upstream of the turbo. I moved it upstream. I downshifted at 1200 degrees. The short of it is that if you stay on the throttle too long without down shifting the combustion temp could rise above the point of piston damage. They are aluminum and depending on the alloy could start a shape change (melt). Kinda thought our electronic engines would power back in that situation, but I am not sure. Time for a Brett comment.

Right on about staying away from 95? What's boring about not being constantly heading to the brake pedal?
-
I installed LED turn signal lights front and rear on my Star Car (last truck) and had to use an electronic flasher to get all to work. Not enough current moving through the standard flasher to make it work.

Kenworth offered a refrigerator/freezer with a twelve volt compressor. Had one in a 96 model. Brett mentioned they are used in boats. So now they are solar refrigerators?
-
Solar in front of refrigerator. I think I smell a tax payer subsidized product.
