Have been with Direct TV since 1995. I have never used a technician to do any of my work. The oval dish( first with 5 LNBs and later 3LNBs) can be a little tricky to mount as a portable unless you have the right meter (pricey) and some practice. It does get easier as you go. You will need a good way to anchor the dish because it is large enough to be blown easily around. Maybe Desert Deals can suggest a meter for you. I have a Perfect Vision BIRDOG USB Plus that I used to aim our 5LNB dish, but that unit has been around for sometime. There are better meters available now. If you are going portable you will need one or you will grow frustrated enough to skip watching HD tv often because it is too much trouble. We have the 3LNB roof mout automatic on our Phaeton and the older 5 LNB dish permanent mount at home. The receiver/recorder works with either dish using a simple onscreen adjustment. We are spoiled now. Park cable is clearly inferior in most cases.

That is the best advice. He recently came east on 44 and gave you a " good to go."

SD44 is marked for large commercial vehicles. Have never used it. Can you ask anyone about the quality of the highway? To Hermosa, sure seems like the way to go.

Silverton Summit RV in Silverton has a nice collection of large high end coaches checked in there. Very nearby the approach of of the steam trains from Durango. I guess somebody other than me is not afraid of US550. I stopped by there in our road. Very nice folks. If I make it back there , I will sign in

Retired Trucker/ The first 8 or so miles southbound from Ouray is a very busy stretch. The curves are tight and the drop offs are on the southbound side. No guard rails. No room for them. Tell your wife not to look. The northbound traffic is up against cliff sides so they can't give up much of their turf. After that, the ride is beautiful to Silverton and on to Durango. Luckily, drivers in both directions recognize the need to drive sensibly. Been over the stretch from Ouray to Durango a number of times in a gas powered coach and our last trip with a 40 foot Phaeton with an exhaust brake.. Even did it a time or two in a tractor trailer. They are legal but discouraged by the authorities. You have experience in Colorado and that puts you ahead of the game. I would still run it either way. It is a major beautiful ride, but if you doubt your skill, do what Bill suggested. There is a state campground not far north of Ridgway, that as government campgrounds go, is above average. You could venture south from there.

As Joe says, water pumps do fail. Normally after many miles. You mentioned a big rise in temp on a flat bridge. If you DO have a properly functioning fan clutch, over heating on a flat surface would be quite unlikely. Unless of course the engagement point is far above normal. Just a thought/ could there be a problem with the ECM? I lost one on my last big rig, but it was sudden. Maybe they could act up in bits and pieces. Just throwing it out there. Everything was fine for quite awhile and then problems started suddenly?

Two weeks today, the knee replacement happened. She has been walking with a cane when needed for the last few days. Can't go up or down stairs with a walker! In home rehab was good. As Wayne and others said, do what the specialist says. Today was day two of rehab not inhome. So far they are impressive but she really feels like a workout has happened when the visit is done. So far so good.

Fan clutches have evolved over the years. There was a time when clutches were fail safe engaged . No power because of a broken wire , the fan clutch was engaged all of the time to allow the engine to cool. Then there was a wave of the reverse for awhile. Learned that on a cold winter snowy night in western Colorado. Ascending Vail Pass and the engine overheated. Pulled onto the shoulder, collected my thoughts, climbed down out of my cab over, walked into the front of the rig, and low and behold the fan was not running though the engine needed some cooling. The rest is me describing how I solved the problem. Tune out I If you are bored, but my point is that you may think that your engine fan is on when it is not. Now the The Rest of the Story/ I had to jack up the cab to gain access to the engine. I quickly found a broken wire atop the valve cover headed to the fan.. A crimping tool and the proper connecter installed, problem solved. There is nothing like having several thousand pounds hanging over you while big rigs go by slipping and sliding. Could have been a career ending event.🙄.

My guess is and it is only a guess, that the toilet that is most distant from the black water holding tank is the culprit. If that is the case, and you don't entertain a lot, use the offending tank for urine only and have the misses use a small trash can for the tissue. Have no experience with a bath and one half, but we do live in a rural setting with a septic tank and therefore try to take it easy with unnecessary things heading to the tank. Betty uses a bathroom trash can with a lid when possible.

Mine is properly mounted. Mounted it about 30 feet back because of clutter up front, but it is centered with the dish facing the rear when retracted . Works perfectly. If the OPs dish works properly , but annoyingli bumps the vent when being caged, I don't think turning the base just a tad would hurt. He is not driving a Porsche!😉 If you say no, I can accept that. You are younger and smarter than I am. 74 today.🎂

Missed out on this. Perhaps rather relocate it to a different spot, you could remove the mounting screws and then turn the base a screw hole or two one way or the other to miss the vent. Put some sealant in the right places, apply careful torque to the newly positioned screws, look at the job so far and apply more sealant where needed. The unit does not to be mounted in line front to rear of yout RV. I did my install on or about my 71st birthday. Does not have to pretty on top. Just functional.

When I clean ours, I place a breaker bar using the appropriate socket on the tensioner pulley and use a set of locking pliers to secure the bar in place when tension is released. Then you can easily move the fan around. Thought of that myself!😊

We have a Sam's Club membership, but seldom use it. Just a little too far away to make it convenient. Never thought about diesel buys. Have you had any trouble with bad fuel there or do they sell enough to keep it fresh?

Five/Every three years? Same thing with Betty. Father-in-law was a Baltimore City Firefighter and rose to rank of Captain, but still entered burning buildings with his engine company when needed. Did not have the breathing apparatus in the late thirties, forties, and thru his career, plus he smoked. Died late 60's. Betty's c's have been negative and no polyps. Me? Every ten, and I am put under. Always thought that I had a high pain threshold, but nothing like Wayne's. EDIT/ Forgot to mention, smokers are at greater risk of colon cancer and more likely to die from it. That is why Betty's father was mentioned in this post.

Smart Choice. In case you have not used I-84 it is a pretty ride while following the Columbia River. Somewhat boring across much of Idaho. I-15 is very busy south through Utah , but still interesting.

These comments are helping me to remind Betty how important PT is. Probably sound like a nag to her because I am certain that her experience on an orthopedic floor reminds her of the need. Just gets a little down at times. Her surgeon called this AM for a chat and he found the time in spite of getting ready to leave for Italy today She was tickled at the attention, I am pretty sure.

When I was a trucker, the big fuel chains rolled out the Red Carpet for truckers with the right fuel cards and frequent fueler cards. I remember rolling into the Flying J in Salina KS on fumes. Twin 150 gallon tanks on a KW and if memory serves, pumped somewhere 🤔over 270 gallons into those highly polished babies. At the most 20 minutes, while washing the windows, parking the rig, picking up my fuel receipt on a round about. Never had to say one word to people behind the fuel desk. Then on to a shower. Fueling with our diesel powered motorhome at the same truckstop, I feel like low rent.🙄

Herman/ She still has her sense of humor, but she is very uncomfortable. The surgeons office told her to increase the use of the prescribed pain medicine from 4 times daily to 6 times a day. Tomorrow will be day one with physical therapy. Wayne says that is all important and Bety agrees. Wil be on my knees tonight before bed. Knew nothing about this operation, but I am learning quickly. Have fueled our RV on the NY Thruway also. Might have to walk your credit card to the fuel desk.

Wayne/I like that! I remember a home made radio in the Boy Scouts using copper wire around something close to the cardboard tube of a roll of toilet paper with other parts I have forgotten. One watt on a wet string around the world. Don't doubt it for a minute.👌
