Started making site reservations for westward migration tonight. Leaving Michigan on 12/26.

If you were to stay one month in RGV and one month in Corpus Christi which would you do first? We are leaving mid December and going to NO and that area, then would go to Texas. Stay January at one location, February at another location and then go to Big Bend area for a couple of weeks. Then move to Hill Country and then wind our way home. Want to get home late April or early May.

Carl and Wayne, has the Rockport and Corpus Christi area recovered from the hurricane or would we be better off to skip this area and go a little further south for a few days?

I am happy to report that the Freightliner service center near Kalamazoo Mi. Is a good place. Very clean, professional and helpful. Had my chassis, motor, transmission and generator serviced. Radiator and CAC cleaned as well as new sway bar bushings installed and bill was $1285.00 . Service supervisor went over everything to be done before and afterwards, now have a good baseline for my coach.

How many days recommend at Galveston and Corpus Christi to see area and get feel for future longer stay? 2-3 nights sufficient or longer? As always any favorite food places?

We did a similar trip this past spring coming home from Arizona, love Big Bend and Alpine. Hill Country and Fredericksburg also great. We did take the route around El Paso that Brett recommended and it worked out great.

Pontchartrain Landings is the Park I was thinking about, has a shuttle to FQ. Is the FQ handicap accessible? Where do you dine while there? Always travel by our stomachs.
-
Joe, we haven’t picked a park near NO, do you know of any? I saw a post about a park that had transportation to French Quarter, trying to locate it.

Thanks Guys, What we are thinking is about a 15 day trip out to include Mobile, New Orleans, Galveston and Corpus Christi and then to Arizona. On way home will go back to Alpine and Big Bend and then to RGV and Hill Country. We will stay in Arizona for 3 months. Plan to leave early December to get out of Michigan while the getting is good. We are starting to plan our winter trip and would appreciate suggestions on the gulf coast from Mobile to Corpus Christi. We will eventually end up in Arizona but would like to visit the gulf first. Just short term stays of no more than 3-4 days. We plan to return to Texas Hill Country on the way out and maybe even Big Bend area again. Thanks for the help, Roland

I agree! I took my coach to the FL dealer in Kalamazoo yesterday for full service on chassis, engine, transmission and generator. Not my cup of tea to do my own maintence. You really didn’t mean I am getting old did you Carl!

There are a couple of good campgrounds near Shipshewana which is just down the road from you. Fun area to visit. Roland

I am replacing my tires in a couple of weeks and also want to get new valve stems. What stems are recommended? Brass or aluminum? I want to get longer stem on duals to eliminate extenders if possible.
-
I am on the FL XC chassis. My personal chassis is 6’3” and 210# Not sure I will do this but need ramps if I do. Shops want about $100 plus material.
-
I am thinking about doing the transmission fluid change, just to get coach higher for my old body.
-
When making ramps for maintence do they need to be wide enough for both wheels of the dual tire to sit on them? I assume they should be, so what do you make them out of? Double 2X12?

Joe, what is a person to do to get necessary service? Would you say that FL oasis service is a likely good choice?
-
Do you really feel that a trip to Gaffney is necessary? Surely there are other qualified service centers more locally located. I have read good reports on the oasis FL dealer in Kalamazoo Mi., this is only 100 miles from me. Hate to think South Carolina is the only place.
-
Punsxy they weren’t there 1 month ago when we were there either. A Texas tall tale or mystery! Roland

Is the difference in an Oasis shop worth driving an extra 50 miles? Are the techs more skilled on mh or is the difference the availability to camp at the shop the main thing? I have 82000 miles on my mh and only limited knowledge of previous service so I am going to get 90000 mile complete service now to bring everything up to date.
-
While the price of a new gas mh is attractive, the drivability and weight limits make it a no for me. I plan to plug along with my present DP until I win the lottery! Buying another used DP doesn’t hold any attraction to me now, who knows what the future will bring.

Would it be time for transmission service?
