  1. Cecil hasn't updated his blog since 2012. I'm going to attempt to send him a PM through irv2.com if I can locate one of his posts there. The last email I received from him Willa had passed, and he wasn't doing well. Another version http://seajaythesailorman.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default
  2. For some unknown reason serial # 785079FB of my 1999 Norcold 1200LRIM is not included in the recall. When I entered my S# on the lawsuit page it said "not included". In order to increase protection against a potential fire, I have installed an ARP unit. This recap of the entire Norcold debacle is quite informative, and disheartening-if one wishes to take the time to read the entire webpage. What really stumps me is, Norcold has not changed the design of the cooling unit, nor have plans to change, according to a man on irv2.com who phoned Thetford and asked, then posted the reply.
  3. I had to cancel our Indy reservation. DW is not healing as Dr.forecast. That cost me over $300 in lost fees, but DW's health is foremost. I considered what someone said about "corporate attorney"- load/inflation charts and their statement about inflating to federal tire placard pressure. Appears to me they covered their 6 for both positions. I remember the Ford Explorer low tire pressure/roll-over issue. I will continue to follow the federal tire pressure placard, just as I do for my pickup and DW's Jeep(wonder how many use a load/inflation chart for pickups or autos?) Following a load/inflation chart figure means you're running tires at their maximum weight limit, airing to +10% means you're running tires 10% over their maximum weight limit. We both know as sidewall flex increases so does flex generated heat. Goodyear says " IMPORTANT: It's a common practice for RV owners to lower tire pressure in their search for a smoother ride. This is not only dangerous, it's relatively ineffective, as the difference in ride quality is not significant. When minimum inflation pressure requirements are not met, tire durability and optimum operating conditions are compromised. Tire inflation pressure should always meet at least the minimum guidelines for vehicle weight." To my knowledge, Goodyear is the only mfgr. that makes an RV specific tire and so states on the tire. Michelin makes truck tires and publishes a RV load/inflation chart. Is my thinking correct on that?
  4. The subject of cost generally rules. The assist program is important to all members, myself included,(joined April '17). Rather than turn FMCA into a clone of Good Sam club by allowing towables, I would not object to FMCA raising dues to $100/yr in order to keep the Assist program, just look at the stand-alone medical assist companies available and their cost per year. I joined FMCA for the experience of being with MH owners. I joined the S.M.A.R.T. organization for the experience of camping and traveling with current or former military members. I joined Good Sam for the overall experience of being an RV'er with folks of all ages.
  5. First things first. SeaJay how are you doing now? Haven't heard from you in years. 1. Ray Fowler 2. U.S.A. 3. 21 years 4.1SG-E8 5.Began my career as a welder/machinist in a Construction battalion, 2 yrs later reassigned to HQ Ft. Lewis, 2 yrs later reassigned to computer data analyst (go figure) for 2 yrs. Requested MOS change to 11B prior to CDA assignment, where I spent the rest of my years bouncing around stateside posts working as a drill sergeant/St. drill/ 1SG (11B5MX) 6. By the time my MOS was changed to 11B, Vietnam was over. My ancestors have served in the military (every war or conflict) since the Revolutionary War.
  6. There are several different things to consider in your particular instance. Waiting until the black tank is 3/4 full in good advice, in your circumstances you might be slowly building a pyramid of solids in the tank when it is allowed to sit partially full-unused for weeks/months. You will flush the tank better if you fill the tank with water to 3/4 then dump. After dumping add a few gallons of water so it's ready for your next outing, and the seals stay wet.
  7. Looks like I confused things. I'm talking about getting emails from HQ, not the forums. I didn't solve my issue of getting "junk" emails yet. Today I got an email from FMCA on behalf of " Explore Florida at Silver Palms RV Resort", although I have deselected getting advertising and CG information by using the "manage your preference" at the bottom of the email. I deselected it again today, I just checked and everything is checked again. Perhaps I should phone membership at HQ and ask for help on their end?
  8. Yes sir Mr. Wolfe10, I don't want to stop everything so I didn't unsubscribe, some emails contain valuable information. I was having the issue of deselecting ads and CG emails, then next day everything was checked again. I hope this finally solved itself, or I finally found the right buttons, because I didn't receive any ads,CG emails, promotions, etc from FMCA today.
  9. The OEM Sony BU system in our MH only had the one coax from the camera to monitor. When the monitor died I switched to a Voyager wireless system as the Sony system was obsolete, no new parts available.
  10. I bought a RM 7730 in 2013. It has worked fine after I figured out I had several setting wrong, before that I got errors like: no road, warning-dirt road, etc. I phoned tech support and the man walked me through my settings, and explained how to use each one that I was having trouble using. The Good Sam version is 7735, same unit with different brand. Both use the same software.
  11. Perhaps some day I will learn how to navigate. I discovered I had been deselecting things in the forum, when those unwanted emails originated from the basic FMCA preferences for what I choose to receive. I still can't get the unwanted emails to stop, but eventually, with persistence, I may succeed. Being a new member has its issues..
  12. I realize we've discussed this before on irv2.com, but; Are you saying we should ignore those admonitions as stated by Bridgestone, Goodyear and Michelin as "just corporate attorney talk"
  13. When I joined the FMCA website I made my choices for what I would receive by email. Seems like every day I continue to receive emails that i had de-selected in "manage your preferences" each of the last 4 weeks. Furthermore when I re-visit the Manage your choices webpage everything is checked again, and I must repeat the process. What's going on? UPDATE: I just turned off everything under "My settings", hope that works.

    New Tire Shelf Life

If any of the cut n paste statements I posted are unproven, I apologize; they came directly from Goodyear and Toyo websites in the links I provided so anyone interested can read the full webpage.
  15. I use dental floss to cut through tape, I wrap the floss around two twigs, otherwise it will cut your fingers too.
  16. Double-sided tape on the egg on top-left rear cap, front has too many stickers/plates already.

    New Tire Shelf Life

It doesn't matter if a lawyer or tire engineer made this statement, both are spokesmen of the tire mfgr. Goodyear's RV tire inflation loading page states: " Tire pressure should never be reduced below the vehicle manufacturer's recommended levels to support load conditions in order to improve the ride quality of a vehicle. The difference in ride quality is not significant. When minimum inflation pressure requirements are not met, tire durability and optimum operation can be affected." Toyo tire states: " For inflation pressure recommendations for the original equipment (OE) size, refer to the tire information placard (T.I.P.) or owner’s manual. The T.I.P. is commonly found on the vehicle door jam, glove compartment or near the gas cap". I have lost the link to Michelin's webpage that stated the same admonition to never run less than the federally-mandated tire information placard. I have asked anyone who posts they had experienced a "blowout" how they inflated their tires, by load/inflation charts or federal tire placard, none have so stated. It's a proven fact, the more sidewalls flex the faster heat builds up, heat is the #1 enemy of tires.
  18. (thumbs up!) Running the minimum is risky; if the owner checks pressure on a warm day, then begins driving on a cold morning they can be running an underinflated tire. No tire mfgr. I'm aware of recommends running less than the federal tire placard in/on the vehicle. Michelin has detailed minimum inflation RV charts that have, in small print, an admonition to never run less than the federal tire placard.

FWIW, you'll not find a tire mfgr. that recommends setting air pressure to less than the federally-mandated tire placard in/on the vehicle. Michelin has extensive load/pressure charts, but within the RV chart, in small print, is the statement to never run less than the federal tire placard air pressure.
  20. I completely agree! I joined this year for the unique experience of motor coaches only. I'm already a life member of Good Sam, if FMCA allows all types of RV's in, there is no logic to paying dues to FMCA. This may be my first, and last year in FMCA if they open up to all types. We had a reservation for Indy, but had to cancel; DW's surgeon says she is still unable to travel that far, and we live in Bloomington???
  21. I investigated this last year when DW bought a new Grand Cherokee, I think the maximum base-plate-not using the spreader bar, is 5,000#, can't remember at my age_. Opinions don't count, like wildebill said- call Roadmaster!
