RV Dealers: Are They All Like This?

Recommended Posts

Seems funny. Last week I went to Superior tire store here in Las Vegas. Bought two tires for my car, spent $251.00  Three days later the store called me, asked how I liked the new tires, how the ride was, any vibrations, and ask if I was satisfied, AND that  they appreciated me buying from them.

In January I bought my Class A motorhome from Findlay RV here in Las Vegas. Spent over $130K. Have they ever called, written, left message asking about my purchase??? NOOOOO.

It's almost impossible to get them to fix a few things under warranty,

Are all the dealers like this??

YUP, that's the way most operate. Besides that I have found the shop, parts and sales staff have no idea what they are doing in most instances. Which is pretty darn scary. Our first coach bought from a RV dealer in the Pocono's nice people, the owner insisted I could not leave with it until we went through the entire unit and I understood how it worked. They called us often after to check up on how we liked it and where we have taken it. Great people!

Our second coach we bought from a car/RV dealer in Strasburg PA, got the same great sales experience. They told me up front they get by with some areas of service on RV's but they were not experts in their service department, I was happy they were honest up front. All of my bad experiences did not come from the places we purchased the coaches from, but from RV dealers that are local to where we reside. FYI, none were CW stores, they are worse! We have a dealer not too far that will sell you a new Holiday Rambler, Thor or Damon DP but they will not work on anything chassis related, including oil changes.

I am convinced if someone opened an RV dealer in a prime location and just treated people the way they would want to be treated they would dominate the area. Lets also not forget to properly train your staff to respond to their customers needs. Put me in charge of such a place I would clean house and staff it accordingly with the right people for the job.

This is a sore spot for me coming from the automotive business, where I treated people like royalty and they spent a whole lot less on each vehicle. Customer service goes a long way with most people. You have to earn a customers trust.

I am in the process of dealing with a lot of what the rest of you are saying. I signed the papers for a 2016 Tuscany on January 2, had loan approval shortly thereafter. The dealership damaged one of the compartment doors that had to be replaced. It took a month to get the new door and the dealership had a terrible time matching the paint. All combined with the items we found wrong with the coach, we did not take delivery until March 25, had it a week and back to the shop it went. Aqua Heat was not working and dealership could not figure it out. Tried to call Thor and Aqua Heat and did not receive any help. Earlier this week I finally had enough and sent a letter to Thor and Marcus Lemonis of Camping World. All of a sudden I got their attention and they have been falling over each other in an attempt to help the mechanic working on my coach figure out the issues. Here is what I experienced on a brand new 2016 Thor Tuscany.

Jacks were leaking hydraulic fluid, 30 foot line had to be replaced
Rear Toilet did not work, bad fuse
Major leak in water closet, pump not connect to hoses
Ice Maker lines not connected
Dock light bulb burned out
Slide scratching the floor
Aqua Heat not working
Drivers Mirror attached at wrong angle even when I adjust it to the highest level it is not enough to set right
Circuit board on 3rd air conditioner not working, part of the issue with Aqua Heat
When manufactured Thor routed the Aqua Heat Hoses on the slide so when they heat up and the slide is moved they fold on themselves and kink
Only received one set of keys, cannot find the other

I am supposed to get my coach back today, April 8 so I can begin to use it. I cannot believe Quality Control at Thor, if there is one, let this coach go with so much wrong with it. Love the coach which is why I bought it, just waiting a long time to enjoy.

I will never ever buy a new RV...again.  Didn't with this last one, and it's bad enough.  The previous was new, lots of issues, and nobody could  seem to figure out how to fix them or even who should fix them...chassis manufacturer or coach manufacturer.  While they fuss over who's going to fix it the warranty expires and then they say, "you're out of warranty, we'll have to charge you for that."

Poor guy is from PA. If he's near ObedB and myself the dealer support around these parts are slim pickings. You fellas from Texas have it made. And your not getting ready for snow tonight.

CW is buying up the mom and pop dealers around here and turning them into a Safe haven for ex cons.

I cant complain about the "POOR" workmanship, nor the bad treatment from the jerks from the dealership where my coach came from. If it is anybody's fault,

I would have to look in the mirror and start my rant, but so far that hasn't been necessary, things all worked the way they were supposed to from the start.

Built my own.

Joe,

After spending the previous 4 years up there I cannot express how I am glad to be back home in Texas!  I know we have it good down here.....specially when I'm sitting on the back patio drinking my coffee every morning and looking at the flowers and wildlife.  Buddy of mine from St Clairsville OH sent a picture of the snow he got last night......I sent him a picture of the green grass here!

We have a local RV repair facility that is extremely good.  They know their way around the complex systems and treat our coach as if it was theirs.  The owner actually has a Dynasty that she keeps in tip top shape.  They are very busy and sometimes the wait list is so long that if takes a few weeks to get in.  The wait is well worth it from the Big Dealer we used to use.

I dropped off my coach at the new REV group's maintenance center last week for some warranty work.  There were a number of coaches in their "RV" lot awaiting parts.  I've had my appointment for over a month, so parts should not be an issue.  The only feedback I've gotten is from a guy who was basically satisfied with the work, but not some other aspects of the operation...returned the coach very dirty, lost some keys, some parts had to be reordered and some work had to be redone.

So the jury is out...I'll keep you posted.

Good I heard they brought some people from the other facility and were trying to get this one up to speed. Doing a start up on a big facility like that must be a big pain in the....

Just wondering do they have a walk in parts department.

Nice Video....is that your new coach?  Just wondered why I was looking at a Prevost conversion by DreamWorks, when I was expecting Texas CC! ?:(

As for anything in Alvarado, TX.  Go across the Hwy to Motorhomes Specialists and have the work done there (60 Bays)...duh!  That's where the local talent is!  Not a big area to draw mechanics from to begin with!:P

That is TCC they do some amazing work. I also appreciated the company motto: “We’re not here to tell you what you need. We’re here to give you what you want.”

In Alvarado REV Group took over the old Ancira property just down the street from Motorhomes Specialists. You might be able to see one from the outher.

Bill.  Yeah, I knew about Ancira.  Also REV Group taking over Allied!  Too many groups, I did not renew my ACC membership, mainly because I don't know who ACC is anymore.  No mail, no annual who's who directory with contact info.  It's all OK.  I have a fair idea what I'll get next...not AC!  Not 45'.

It would be interesting to see what they have 20-30 years from now?

I take it, you live in Vegas?  Where is the coach made?  As for original question, FIVE answered it !

I live in Spencerport NY.

Wintered it here in Vegas and the class C motorhome proved to be too small for living in for 3+ months.traded it for a new class A at Findlay RV in Vegas. There service people must take classes in LYING. No one could be that good on their own. They tell you for weeks the parts haven't arrived, then you find out they never ordered them. Now they said the 2 items were waiting for didn't ship as one still needed a part for the assembly .Then they said the parts are lost and needed to be reordered, then the one that was in need of a part might be being shipped but the other did not ship.

How can Fleetwood stand for this incompetence??  Now we have to leave for NY without the repairs being done. Fleetwood customer service has looked into this but I'm still waiting for a return call from them.

Where is the coach made?? Indiana I guess. It's a 2016 Fleetwood Bounder 36E.

Beware of purchasing from Findlay RV in Las Vegas.

Just so you are clear on this, the REV Group I posted about is a factory Fleetwood repair facility. AKA The factory. It is just south of Fort Worth. You might be able to stop by on your way back and get things fixed at the Factory repair center.

Yeh I would like to stop at a repair facility but already spent a extra week waiting for parts here. Even Fleetwoods customer service said the parts would be here today.NOOPE

we have to leave for New York (prior commitments and we are a week late leaving already) without the repairs.maybe the dealer there will be more reliable.
