Honda Element
bizsmith@yahoo.com replied to bizsmith@yahoo.com's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
Just curious. There was a change about '06 and Honda quit honoring the warranty if towed although I am convinced it would work fine. We like the interior arrangement for the Element (no longer available) and just wondered if we could consider a used '10 or '11 model. -
We traded our TST 510 system for the 507 with flow thru sensors. For our coach the repeater is necessary for complete reliability for the toad tires. It can be intermittent without. I think every monitor system on a given coach can be different with regard to repeaters. The reason I switched to the 507 is that I had the 510 long enough that the sensor batteries were starting to need replacing. The batteries are user replaceable with the 507. Something to consider no matter what brand you choose. TST is working for me. Do your research and choose. There are many reliable brands.

I need to have a new air dryer for the air system in my coach. Any suggestions for service west KC and points west?

The only time I've ever had wheels off the ground was when it made it easier to change a blown tire. I sweated the whole time. My rule--don't do it.

The 7720 is supposed to be considerably improved over the 7710 but that remains to be seen.

I will be anxious for real user reports since they are shipping now

Surge Protector Necessary?
bizsmith@yahoo.com replied to seajaycecil@yahoo.com's topic in Electrical
Yes, I have experienced loss of neutral. Never have figured out how it happened. Luckily all that happened was a fried circuit board in the microwave. I've also seen what happens with a hot and neutral are reversed. A brand new RVer had a 50 amp cord rewired by a "professional?" There was all kinds of damage on his first trip. -
Surge Protector Necessary?

Staying in state parks, we encounter low voltage more times than I can count. Glad you saw the light with the SP. -
Having sat in a waiting room of a large RV service facility, my comment would be that buying new can be more of a headache than buying used. The new owners were more likely to be pulling hair over warranty problems. A well cared for used coach will have the bugs worked out. "They don't build 'em like they used to."

Very good description of DeLorme by mrboyer. My personal preference is Topo North America. I really got started using that when I had a motor home that didn't like hills. Topo allowed me to see topography that might be a problem and plan the route accordingly. Other than that Topo is very much like mrboyer describes. It enables detailed route planning the night before. When I traveled Canada in '03, details were not yet available but that is changed now.

We use KOA for one night stops. There is usually a pull thru available so we don't need to unhook the toad and the 50 amp power suits our power hog coach. Most times easy in, easy out, level sites.

Anyone out there towing a late model Honda Element( '09 or '10)?

I have had to use a boost transformer in a few older state parks. My coach surge protection cuts power at about 105 volts and occasionally it will do that. I don't stay in many private CG's but the ones I have used usually stay above 110 volts.

Don't know about parking spaces but I'm sure most drivers will say you can manuever almost any length thru city traffic. It's just what your comfort level is.

Don't waste your money on rvheadsets.com. They work on broadcast band, subject to interference. You might get lucky once in a while but many locations they are worthless.

I have used DeLorme map software for GPS navigation for more than 10 years (before GPS units were available for cars). See what's available on DeLorme.com so I don't tell you something that's wrong.
-
I don't intend to preorder. Just curious when available. Meantime I'll continue to use DeLorme software on my laptop, old reliable for me. Hopefully RM will have learned from the 7710. I'll give it some time with comments on this forum. I hope there will be enough forumers (is that a word?) so I can make a better decision.

When will it be available? The mixed reviews on the 7710 make me a little leery but if it meets the specs I will be interested.

I second the nomination for Fountaine Bleau. Great! -
We have utilized the AWD in the past when we wintered in Minnesota and a couple of times on muddy roads. If I were to trade now that we winter in the south I probably wouldn't opt for AWD.

US 74 from Ashville, NC to Cleveland, TN
bizsmith@yahoo.com replied to Dudley's question in Destinations/Attractions
Just be aware of the bikers. They like to use this route to see how fast they can take the curves. They are patrolling it better for speeders than in the past. -
Honda CRV Odometer Question
bizsmith@yahoo.com replied to MarYJac04's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
My CRV never registers towed miles. I would suggest as another commenter that you had the ignition switch in the on position. -
I get tired and - retired - every day since 2002. Love it.
