  1. In my opinion, fuel efficiency vs other considerations such as scenery should have the least priority. The amount saved with one route over the other will be minimal even at today's prices. For example for every 1000 miles you save about $4 on a route that gets you 10 mpg instead of 9 mpg. The difference in mileage on one route over another won't even be that much.
  2. Weather is OK, maybe not as good as southern FL or southern TX. Look at the city park in Morgan City. Huge campground and nice on the water. You would have to like small town environment, not for everyone.
  3. I know there are several mfg. I'm asking for experience with cargo slides.

  5. I suspect it would be cheaper to trade for a 50 amp coach.
  6. It all comes down to research and making a decision. We have Roadmaster and have no real complaints. I can't give a comparison as that is all we have used for13+ years.
  7. I agree with hermanmullins. Stop at Palo Duro Canyon south of Amarillo for a preview of the Grand Canyon. You won't be able to drive to the bottom of the Grand with your RV or camp at the bottom in a very nice campground like you can at Palo Duro.
  8. I use DeLorme software on a laptop and have for a number of years before you could even buy a GPS. I can pick the exact route I want to take and review the trip the day before checking the route with paper maps and a truckers atlas. I can mark rest areas and fuel stops. Almost no surprises and I have a 13 inch screen. Bigger if I chose a bigger laptop. I have not been too impressed with the RM tripmaker. My copilot always uses paper maps. No matter whose GPS you use they can take you where you don't want to be. The story here in Minnesota is of the woman who followed the GPS on to a snowmobile trail. It took three days to get her car out of that fix.
  9. Oil of peppermint has worked for us. Do not use peppermint extract found in grocery stores. It evaporates too fast.
  10. Don't post in italics, don't post in all caps. Both are hard to read and rude.
  11. We hedge our bets. One Verizon, one AT&T. Sometimes one is better, sometimes the other, sometimes neither. I don't know if any system will result in 100%.
  12. Personal opinion: diesel pusher is quieter and I like the flat floor in the front, dislike the front entry prevalent in pushers. It all boils down to personal preference.
  13. Be extremely careful if you fabricate a cord, especially since you say you are not electrically savvy. I encountered a situation with a campground neighbor who had a cord fabicated by someone who supposedly knew what he was doing. He had reversed a hot and neutral. The results were that it applied 240 volts on a 120 volt leg of the MH power box. It fried the microwave, wrecked the transfer switch and the only thing saving two thin screen TVs was that the GFI breakers tripped faster than damage could occur. If you think I am trying to scare you, that is correct.
  14. Some rest rooms of concrete block construction are safe but not all. I just saw a plaque on one near Macon, GA that it had been a safe haven for more than 50 people during a tornado.
  15. Just left. Good luck! The traffic and crowds were manageable last week but the "season" was starting and the congestion was noticeably snowballing. It's still a beautiful destination.
  16. I think this must be a common problem especially when you have to use the large diameter rapid flow truck pumps. I don't insert the nozzle very far and never lock the nozzle on. This requires extra care but I can regulate the flow just fast enough to fill without shutting down. The partially inserted nozzle also vents more air. Very tiring to manually hold the right flow but faster in the long run, at least for me. It requires very close vigilance to prevent spillage.
  17. Look at your breaker box. At least mine is clearly separated and labelled which are powered by the inverter.
  18. This would not happen if they have "pay by plate" now. I went thru the toll booth and missed the basket with the quarters. I never did get a bill so maybe their cameras recorded that at least I tried.
  19. Even though the switch to inverter is automatic, I usually turn the inverter off when on shore power. I have a space heater whose electronic controls do not like the modified square wave of the inverter and will fry in a matter of seconds. If there is a power failure, the refrigerator can drain the batteries very rapidly but I need the refrig to be on an inverter circuit for on the road operation. And wolfe10 is right, inverter and converter (charger) functions are essentially opposite although contained in the same box.
  20. No suds. It would probably take a gallon of dawn to make suds in the black water.
  21. I was told that adding Dawn dish soap to the black water tank helps to clean it. Since Dawn is a grease cutter it sounded logical to me. Occasionally I will add about a cup to a 3/4 full tank before a short trip and then dump the tank on arrival at the next stop. It seems to help. Any other opinions?
  22. Our 1200 LRIM died a rather sudden and stinky (ammonia) death. Rather than replace the cooling unit and still be left with 12 year old electronics, we replaced it with a Samsung residential refrig. Not for everyone especially if you do a lot of dry camping but for us it seems to be a logical solution to the No Cold problems.
  23. Turnpike by all means. Not terribly expensive.
