  1. I would choose US98 every time. As Charles Kuralt said, "interstates are wonderful. You can travel border to border and coast to coast and never see a thing." If you want to avoid the heavier traffic, drop down from I10 at exit 56, then take State Hiway 20 east and 77 south to east of Panama City picking up 98 there to Apalachicola. Best coastal scenery is on that stretch of 98. We usually choose routes other than interstates all the time.
  2. Believe it or not. there are some good ones. Of course there is the opportunity to vent here about the bad ones. I try to do everything I can myself but there are many things I can't do. I can't even change a tire with the size of my MH and its tires. I have run in to bad service but I could tell just as many tales where the service went beyond.
  3. Lake Louisa State Park is only about 15 miles from DW. You can see the areal fireworks at DW. A beautiful park about 5000 acres. A few sites with full hookup but good luck getting in especially near Christmas. You have to have reservations 11 months in advance but we would take even a electric water site over any private camp ground. Our favorite Florida State Park.
  4. I installed a trickle charger at the crossover for emergency start from house batteries . Works very well with no additional battery minder to hook up.
  5. We have towed a 2003 CRV for about 70000 miles with very few problems, one of the few with 4 down automatic. I am considering the Ford C Max. It is a hybrid, towable 4 down, with interior space comparable to our CRV. It gets 47 MPG.
  6. Has anyone else experienced not being able to view new forum content unless signed out? I am posting here in the hopes of reaching more people as the forum moderator could not help me.
  7. I have only had the Garmin two months and have yet to make an RV trip. I just wanted GPS users to know it is one of the newer ones. Using it in the car is promising and I really like the lane display as you approach an interchange. Right now I would rate it at about C+ for user friendly but it is growing on me.
  8. Giving the Garmin RV 760LMT a try after all the negatives on RM products. Not enough experience with it to say it is the best but I like it so far. It is new to the RV GPS market.
  9. I installed a trickle charger that charges the engine battery when connected to shore power. It connects where the crossover for emergency start from house batteries is located. Took about ten minutes.
  10. When we had a Monaco Dynasty, what else but Dinah?
  11. I must turn off my inverter when on shore power because I use an electric space heater whose electronic controls do not like the wave form of the inverter and will fry in a matter of minutes. Otherwise I would probably leave it on. Another consideration is that the heater running on the inverter would deplete the house battery very quick if I happened to not notice the switch.
  12. We have towed a 2003 CRV since it was new. It has 110000 miles and an estimated 70000 miles towed (never pulled a fuse). The only reason we have not traded for a new one is that we like the interior configuration of the '03. I like the lighter weight over some of the larger SUV's but it is not a light weight on safety ratings. Consult the towing guide for the most help in a selection.
  13. Disconnect the drive shaft. It took two hours for the tow truck operator to get my U Joint disconnected but he knew he could not tow w/o doing it.
  14. Posting in italics is almost impossible to read on a tablet or phone. Besides that it is rude.
  15. I'm installing a new radio in my coach. The radio vendor says in a car, the whole car body acts as the antenna for AM. It doesn't appear that I am going to get good AM reception even though I have connected the radio chassis to to the metal in the coach. AM reception was never really good with the old radio that died. Suggestions?
  16. We tow a 2003 CRV. in ten years of towing, I've never pulled a fuse. When the battery was old and needed replacing it would run down if we went too long but with a good battery, it's never been a problem. If we do an overnight stop w/o unhooking, I run the engine 15 minutes at the end of the day. This not only charges the battery but circulates the fluid in the tranny.
  17. I'm sure the Equinox is a good set of wheels but I prefer something smaller.
  18. I currently tow an '03 Honda CRV and I must say it has been as near ideal as I could ask for. However, it has 108000 miles on the odometer and I would estimate an additional 70000 towed miles that don't show on the odometer. I would like to replace it but I can't find a new four wheels down toad that I like as well. The Honda Element would have been the ideal interior configuration but Honda said they would not honor the warranty if it was towed even though the drive train was identical to the CRV. We carry a fairly large dog crate at all times so we need something like a small SUV. I do not like the interior arrangement of the '14 CRV as well as my '03 and the Fit is TOO small. Automatic tranny is desired because my copilot does not get along well with a stick shift. Because of a left knee problem, i would not either. Tohe copilot does most of the driving in the toad. That is the deal, I drive the coach and she drives the toad. Any suggestions?
  19. 1)7000 2)108000 '03 CRV (odometer mileage which of course does not include towed mileage, towed mileage estimated to be additional 70000) 3)115000 4)2 hr 5)2 hr 6)60 7) yes 8)Roadmaster towbar
  20. The Transit Connect is not listed as towable but it is considered more a commercial vehicle. Does anyone have any info on towing the Connect?
  21. I know there are several reliable tire pressure monitor systems. I chose TST many years ago and here are some notes for any who might be in a quandary whose system to choose. Theft proof sensors seem a good concept, but personally I would not recommend them. I do not see sensor theft a priority issue. I adjust pressures fairly often and the wrench can be annoying. The configuration of my front rims made it very, very difficult to use the wrench. When it came time to change the batteries in my sensors, I opted to trade for the newer system (although more expensive) with flow thru sensors. I can now adjust pressures w/o removing the sensor. Batteries are owner replaceable. I have to use a repeater. For some reason the right front tire on my toad is a problem. It is not the further of the sensors but it had problems on both systems. TST has been very easy to work with. Example: they admitted their early sensors had a gasket problem and exchanged all my sensors at the Madison Show free of charge, no questions asked. Replace your toad valve stems with rigid metal ones. With the flexible stems, the sensors would occasionally loosen themselves. I still check quite often to see that they are tight even with the rigid stems. As I said, there are may reliable systems. I hope this helps in your decision. "Don't leave home without it."
  22. We have iPhones and a mifi jet pack. They all have their places although the jet pack may be a little more stable. The iPhone hot spots seem to dump and disconnect more often.
  23. I know where all the main neutral terminal strips are, but to isolate one say behind the dash board can be very frustrating.
  24. With hundreds of wires running everywhere, why did the manufacturer make it so hard to find a solid (and accessible) neutral?
  25. I would NEVER back in w/o a guide. So even if my copilot is guiding me, feel free to help. Best situation is a guide at the rear AND the front.
