  1. Regarding where to learn to drive a motorhome ... Go to the Recreation Vehicle Safety & Education Foundation (RVSEF) Web site -- http://rvsafety.com -- and click the "Driving Programs" tab. RVSEF co-sponsored the RV Driving Safety program at FMCA's last convention, in Indianapolis. The major objectives of the program are to increase driver awareness; identify drivers' abilities; understand and identify your vehicle(s); determine conditions that affect driving; and make participants safer drivers. The program covers the differences in vehicle size, height, and weight, so you will find it easier to hit the road in your motorhome. In Indianapolis, the program was divided into two sessions of three hours each, and the cost was $20 per person. Everyone who completed the course received a certificate that may have entitled them to a discount on their insurance premiums. As FMCA's Gillette, Wyoming, convention (June 19-22, 2013), approaches, check the convention section of FMCA.com to see whether this program will be offered there. Here's a video called "Drive Your Motorhome Like a Pro," produced by RV Education 101.
  2. According to a CTV News report: The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles says it will "defer" the enforcement of a new law that would requires Canadians and other non-U.S. citizens to carry an international driving permit -- in addition to their regular driver's licence -- if they wished to get behind the wheel of a car while visiting the Sunshine State. 3. The FMCA Forums have a brand-new "best answer" feature. This enables the topic starter, or a moderator, to mark a post as the best answer by clicking the "Mark Solved" button. The screen shot above shows a typical question topic and the best answer has been flagged. You'll also notice that at the top, a small excerpt of the post is shown with a button to go and read the full post. This is useful for when the best answer may be on a different page from the one you're viewing. Looking at the forum topic view, you'll see that the answered topic has a badge that, when clicked, takes you to the flagged post. You can also quickly filter the forum list to remove answered or unanswered topics. I hope you enjoy this new feature, and find it useful.
  4. FMCA has held 87 conventions, starting in July 1964. They are now called Family Reunion and Motorhome Showcase events.
  5. I can't seem to remember how many motorhome conventions FMCA has held? Can anyone help me out? (Note: This post is to demonstrate the FMCA Forums' new best answer feature.)
  6. What coach is your wife going to "bring home" next? I look forward to your further adventures. We do strive to maintain the FMCA Motorhome Forums as an informative and friendly place, and we have great members who make it so.
  7. Ah, now I remember ... the Winnebago Brave didn't make it off the farm land. Too bad. Those zombies are so slow, you could escape from them in a Zamboni. But I agree that the self-containment of motorhomes would be beneficial, and their roofs are great lookout points for spotting -- and shooting -- the walking dead. I don't get AMC, so I'll have to wait for Season 3 on Netflix, I guess.
  8. ***Spoiler Alert*** The Winnebago Brave might have had some mechanical problems, but, sadly, it outlives Dale, the character on "The Walking Dead" who owns it. Beneath the surface, I think Dale enjoyed tinkering with his classic coach and wouldn't have been happy with an upgrade. I haven't seen Season 3 of the show, which airs on AMC. But Season 2, available on Netflix streaming, is very good.
  9. In addition to choosing the Download PDF option on the Tools menu, I like the right-click alternative. Right-click your mouse on the magazine pages to pop up a quick menu of the most used reader features, including Download PDF and View Mode. View Mode lets you choose one- or two-page mode. Once you become accustomed to the tools and layout of the digital edition, you'll be zipping your way around in no time.

    Spell Check

Our software provider does not offer a custom spell checker. It would be nice to have something in the text editor, rather than having to compose in a word processor program, run spell check there, and then copy to the forums. Offhand, I'm not aware of any major forums that have a built-in spell checker that works well. Some of the major Internet browsers, if they are up-to-date, have spell checkers built-in. With some browser versions, you have to install the addon, such as ieSpell for Internet Explorer, to add it into the browser you are using. The Google Toolbar for IE and Firefox also offers a spell check button.
  11. Clicking "Sign In" on the forums now takes you to the Community Sign In page. Once you sign in there, you should no longer receive the "invalid token error."
  12. The RVND 7720 Trade-in offer is effective through Dec. 18, 2012. Details
  13. FMCA maintains a seasonal address file and can send your magazine to your winter or summer address during the months when you are staying in a different location. Contact the Membership Department — membership@fmca.com or (800) 543-3622 arrange this service.
  14. During FMCA's Indianapolis 2012 convention motorhomers shared their favorite destinations. Geeks on Tour has plotted them on the Google Earth map. http://tinyurl.com/9vk7mj9

  16. The official coach count was announced yesterday at evening entertainment and in this morning's convention newsletter. The 2,211 coach count includes 1,849 family coaches; 85 exhibitor live-in coaches; 207 display coaches; and 70 demo units. Here's a video highlighting one of the display coaches, a 2013 American Heritage, an American Coach model by Fleetwood.
  17. No, these are live feeds, and I don't think they are being recorded. If you're not in Indianapolis, the seminar webcasts are great opportunities to enjoy part of the event from your home, office, motor coach or wherever you have Internet access.

    Lost History

I'm not sure why the system has allowed duplicate screen names, but there are two accounts with the username MONTIE, each associated with a different e-mail address. I will look into this ....
  19. Somehow, you had two log-in accounts, with the exact-same username of Wayne77590. But each account had a different e-mail address associated with it. The account created July 6, 2012, with an "me.com" e-mail address showed only three posts. The account created in 2009 showed 900. Your post count has been updated. Please carry on with the most recent account and PM me if this is not resolved. Thanks.
  20. Please refrain from garnering support for legal action here on these forums. It violates the Forum rule: "Posts on matters in which legal counsel is/has been involved, including posts related to future, current or past lawsuits, are not allowed." You may contact forum members privately, but posts within this thread will be edited or removed.
  21. The delete post/topic option is not enabled for users. If you start a topic or post a reply that you would like to remove, please report the post and ask a moderator to delete it. Asking for a delete is preferred to going back and editing your post by deleting some or all of the text. That would leave the edited post, and probably raise spam suspicions.
  22. "No such user here" means that the user's mailbox doesn't exist at the SMTP server it is being directed to. Kiley could have moved their e-mail hosting, or the problem could be related to their mailbox configuration. I will alert them to the issue ...
  23. FMCA members can shoot a video tour of their motorhome for possible use on ABC World News Tonight with Diane Sawyer. It's for tonight's show, on a segment that focuses on RVing. If interested, send an e-mail to webmaster@fmca.com. Update: The RVing segment for ABC World News has been rescheduled to air tomorrow night (5/16). That gives FMCA members a little more time to contact FMCA about submitting video footage of their motorhome.
