  1. MWeiner, you can download an entire State, a couple of States or 1/2 the Country if you think you will not have an internet connection again for many, many days (almost impossible). Once the data is on your phone it's always there and always available. It is, of course, limited by the amount of storage capacity available on your phone. There's really no reason to not use Google Maps if data is your only concern.
  2. That's simply not true. If your plans call for you traveling where you think your phone might lose internet you simply download the map area before you go and you will have mapping the entire route. This can also be done to save what tiny bit of data the program uses while traveling as you can download the data while on WiFi or a home connection. You will lose the live traffic data but if if you are in an area without a cellular connection I doubt traffic is going to be an issue.
  3. I would choose Google Maps and/or WAZE. The stand alone GPS units are so far out of date they are just shy of being a joke. Some do offer (or can be had through an add-on) large vehicle add-ons but I can't find enough value in these add-ons to justify free vs. $700.
  4. Check out www.RVParky.com and use Macon, GA as the search destination. There are a number of RV parks N. and S. of this location. I have only stayed in the Perry, GA area but that's not quite halfway. If you don't get enough info from RV Parky you can look at RVParkReviews.com and see what RVers have said about that campground.
  5. Most storage units can also provide you with insurance on the property stored but you need to carefully read what is or is not covered and for what amount. I find it hard to believe that most insurance companies would not write a renters insurance policy on a rented storage unit. Are you a USAA member? AARP? Someone certainly must if the storage units have companies that will.
  6. I would dump AMEX if it was me but I never liked AMEX anyway. The direct answer to your question is NO, I have never received this kind of message from any of my CC's and I also use a mail forwarding service as my 1 and only physical address. We are Escapees with TX DL, Vehicle Tax, Registration and Insurance using the Rainbow Drive, Livingston, TX address.
  7. Livingston, TX IS a legal permanent address. I vote, I get called for jury duty and the IRS and the State of TX recognizes this address as my legal address. Where are you a resident?
  8. I don't think that this is unusual whether you buy a new or a used RV. The only difference is who is going to pay the bill. These things break and they break on a regular basis. I am sorry to hear about the ECM issue as that sounds like a pretty rare event. I have found that you either need to have very deep pockets (I don't) or you need to learn how to fix stuff (I have learned more than I ever hoped to know!). The Norcold is a known issue so not unique to your coach but pretty much expected. At least it didn't catch fire! The good news is that if you want to travel a lot you likely will not have a required schedule as to when you arrive so if something breaks you've got time to get it fixed. If you do the Alaskan trip you will likely be with a tour group and the usually have some handy folks along as the tailgunner to help with those day to day issues but won't be able to fix a blown turbo. That doesn't mean I don't love my 1988 Prevost but it does mean I have fixed a lot of stuff and I have had a lot of stuff fixed.
  9. Now that would be very interesting. Does this forum have a "poll" option? While I know that FMCA would not like to see the results of a poll of the current members of this forum it sure would be interesting to see. If polling is not available we could start a topic and allow only 1 word answers. Yea or Nay.
  10. We are waiting on the honey wagon as I type this. $15 but it's better than trying to get out of my current site and work around this very tight campground in Va Beach only to return to my site a few minutes later. It also helps that the company will pay for my charges anyway!
  11. If you call it the way you see it, saying I offended you but you are not offended it seems you are looking for inflammatory words. "Let's let the process work out, please". I don't need your advice on my posts, that's a moderators job. We all have opinions. I post mine. You are welcome to post yours without attacking mine.
  12. So....... "Every national director votes based on how their chapter tells them to vote." If that's true then 84% of the FMCA members want to allow towables. Thanks for confirming what I have already said. The fix is in.
  13. My coach had a macerator installed when I bought it but it did not work at that time. It used a separate discharge line so you could choose the 3" standard or you could use the macerator which discharged on the opposite side (Hee Hee). When I has some other work done they removed the non-functional macerator. Just for fun I pulled it apart to see why it was not working. Wrapped around the impeller was a pair of panty hose!
  14. Installing macerators in RV's being built is illegal in OR. If you have one and use one it is not illegal. Not sure about your macerator setup but the one mentioned by FIVE and most macerators have a 1" discharge hose and it can take close to 1/2 hour to empty a large holding tank.
  15. I suspect we will be able to vote online just as soon as we can vote for the President online........... if you are asking me about getting mail, I can request my mail be forwarded to me overnight or by snail mail but I get so little mail these days that I usually forget to even call to ask about mail unless I am waiting for something specific. Even then I can call the mail forwarding service, ask them if a specific piece of mail has arrived and only have them sent it once something of value is there. 99.9% of everything I do or need is done online including depositing checks and paying bills. My payroll checks are all direct deposit.
  16. There are plenty of good parks spread throughout the State. You need to figure out how cold you want to get during the Winter so you can determine how far South you want to go. The West coast tends to be nicer water but that also means higher prices. Go too far S. and you end up in Miami, the Keys or Naples and you are going to need very deep pockets. Take a look at RVParkReviews for the cities you think you might like to visit and you will find plenty of good recommendations. If you want to pick a couple of cities you think you would like to visit you can post those here and likely get some good recommendations as well.
  17. I bought a '88 Prevost in '99 because I could not have afforded a '99 in '99 as they were priced in the $1,000,000 range.
  18. Depending upon where the coach is built, including a macerator may be illegal (Oregon is one of those locations). Too many RVers rigged them so they could pump the poo into the woods while driving down the road. My coach was originally setup that way so I am not speculating here.
  19. No voting on the internet either. They will depend upon the low readership of the magazine and the lack of motivation of most "members" to do anything with that piece of paper. Way too much trouble to tear out, put an x in a box and then put it in the mail if they can find a stamp. (Sarcasm, but likely true).
  20. So I have a truly unlimited 4G LTE Sprint MiFi (stand-alone) for $45/month. I have the AT&T Mobley "unlimited 4G LTE" (22GB unthrottled) for $22/month I also have 2 Verizon phones that share 4GB of data. I can turn that up or down to whatever level I need on a monthly basis should I ever be in an area where neither AT&T or Sprint worked. I easily use 40+ GB/month and I don't stream any TV or similar shows but I use You Tube to find out how to fix stuff and some entertainment. Since I full time, this is my only connection to the outside world (plus my DirecTV, of course) so I use these connections for everything. The TV's and satellite receivers are connected to allow updates as well as using the WiFi to keep the phones and phone apps up-to-date so I don't eat up the 4GB on my Verizon plan.
  21. Yes, it is perfectly safe. You should turn the fridge off while re-fueling to prevent the extremely rare possibility that you could cause a fire with the fumes while fueling. However, since you are diesel powered I would not turn it off while pumping diesel.
  22. I can't say that I would feel the same way. If any product failed a month or so before the 2 year warranty ended and the company replaced the unit as promised I would be pretty happy.
  23. Surprise! Since only the board that recommended the change will count the ballots, anyone want to guess what the outcome will be?
  24. There is exactly ZERO need or reason to install an inverter on an RV (propane) fridge. Most of these kinds of discussions are based upon folks removing their RV fridge and installing a household fridge with only works on 120V.
