  1. Me, too! I use the Mobley as my primary connection and for $20/month for 22GB of unthrottled data I'm pretty happy. If I needed more I would just buy a 2nd Mobley and get another 22GB.
  2. Something went terribly wrong a number of years ago. Everything was great for many years and then we parked in Tucson, AZ for a month. When we pulled out our turbo boost no longer reached the level that it should 15+Lb and the torque was just gone. It takes forever to get going. At altitude you have to step on the gas and wait a few seconds before the coach will even start to move. We were in Cripple Creek, CO (9000+ FT) a few years back, stopped at a traffic light on a hill and hit the gas. The coach never moved. Just sat there with the engine never ramping up. Finally had to get in the toad, engage the driveshaft disconnect and use the toad to push the RV up the hill to get going. Fuel mileage is down by about .5 MPG and going up hills is just a matter of gearing down way, way farther than we ever had to do before. We are in FL now and being at sea level makes it seem like everything is OK but we just came from CO and it was a painful experience. The engine has been replaced so it is not an engine problem. It's something in the electronics and the DDEC 1 does not provide much of anything in the way of diagnostics. I just need to find some 100 year old tech who remembers what a DDEC 1 is and how to update it to a DDECIII or someone willing to trace every wire in that 60+ wire harness to find out what wire got eaten by a rodent!
  3. You say that everyone should vote but, just like the voting that can change your life, most folks do not. It gets much worse when you expect folks to vote about stuff they simply do not care about. The majority of members will never know that a vote is taking place and the minority will not care that a vote is taking place. That leaves a few people casting a vote which will be over-riden by the folks that put the vote up to the membership as they are all going to vote yes. It's democracy at its finest whether you like it or not. It's more like Animal Farm democracy, but it's democracy none the less.
  4. What say we take a look at how many FMCA members there are and how many forum members we have. Just because you can use a computer does not mean you are using a computer to access this forum. The facts are that a large percentage of seniors can "use" a computer (as could my 88 YOA mother) but that does not mean they are accessing this site or have any idea what's going on with FMCA. If you are age sensitive get over it. It's a reality that not everyone keeps up with this stuff on the internet and there has not yet been any info released in the magazine.
  5. The vast majority of FMCA members do not visit this site. With the average age of an FMCA member being 71 may not even have any interest in computers. That means that a paper ballot will be in the FMCA mag. likely just a printed page you have to tear out and put in the mail or a ballot that will fall out when the mag. is opened so it can easily be thrown out. There's really no other way to do it these days but FMCA is not going to mail a ballot to everyone in hopes of getting the best possible response due to the cost involved.
  6. Project Fi sounds great for you situation. I can't imagine trying to use that service. My bill would exceed $4000/month. As long as you can afford it, that looks good but my bet was that if we were side by side I would see similar results with either my Verizon or AT&T service and my AT&T is $20/month. I also question your thought that WiFi is pretty ubiquitous these days. Free WiFi where your RV is parked in your profile is unlikely. If you like to do your surfing in a McDonald's parking lot that's different. "Free Wifi" in a campground is paid for in your camping fees. Have you noticed the rise in campground fees over the last 5 years? I sure have!
  7. You should not be disappointed....YET.....as no vote has taken place. Once the inevitable happens, then you can be disappointed.
  8. I have Verizon phones and use the hot spot feature when necessary. I also have a Sprint MiFi and an AT&T Mobley. I travel Nationwide and I can tell you that Verizon out performs both of the other by a long shot. There are, of course, specific locations where Verizon may not be the best but they are pretty rare. Guess my local Verizon tower is a bit overloaded on a Saturday afternoon!
  9. Not sure I understand the problem with the fuel fill. At a truck stop you can fill at the diesel pumps from either side. Is the right hand pump line too short to reach as well? Help me out here. That is an odd place for a fuel fill, however.
  10. He doesn't want to spend $1000 much less the $2000 for an RF Mogul or Winegard Trav'ler. To the OP, if you have a ladder on the rear of your coach, Winegard makes a ladder mount where you could mount it and leave it forever or remove and place on the ground should you end up in the trees.
  11. No, there is no policy. Of course! Should the owner selling a coach also remove any Good Sam stickers? Escapees stickers? It's just a thing and not a very important thing. If they glued that to their coach it could easily damage the paint or gel coat if removed. Doing so would dramatically lower the value of the coach as it would need to be repaired or repainted. While I would not make the mistake of gluing anything to the coach, others might and when they do, the coach is "stuck" with it!
  12. I am pretty sure the last Presidential elections was done without any internet voting so I am not sure comparing paper ballots to any other form of voting would be compared to a 1920's era. When you can vote for your local Congressman on-line, then come back and complain about the progress. In the meantime we still have to deal with "hanging chads".
  13. No one said anything about everything being right. However, it is the largest source of information available to the average person. You have to filter through the advertisements and inaccurate responses but if I Google Best Burger on the Beach, Melbourne, FL it's pretty easy to filter out the results that don't answer the question and I will likely have a very nice lunch. Without that option I have very little chance of finding a similar place without a lot of wasted driving. Some of these gems are quite well hidden or in a building that looks like a dump and I would have just keep going. No matter, enjoy your flip phone and the Yellow Pages but I think I will use the technology available to us. It works for me.
  14. I use Google as well and have never seen anything that would make me say " I just can't trust the search engines on the internet anymore. Sheesh!". Google is my right arm and I can't think of more than a couple of instances in the last year or so where it has let me down. If you don't like Google, try Bing (Yuck!), Duckduckgo or any of the hundreds of search engines. You will end up coming back to Google and you will be happy that you did. If you don't trust Google then you should go back to using the Yellow Pages and paper maps.
  15. No, I never wash my own and I pay folks to polish my wheels. I am not wealthy by any stretch of the imagination but I visit Blue Beacon frequently and find wheel polish deals at rallies. I have not been to a rally in a long time and my wheels look like...uhhhhh....doo doo.
  16. Really? Why not? What are you searching for? Asian brides? If you are looking for campgrounds, rest areas, truck stops or anything else I can think of that would be RV related there is really no better source than the internet. I should clarify that I use Google exclusively for random searches (YMMV) and I use RV Parky and RV Park Reviews for campgrounds. I used the Pilot / Flying J app for fuel stops. I use GasBuddy for fuel pricing. I use specific websites or apps for specific requirements. There is no reason to distrust the well known internet search engines unless you are searching for questionable search results.
  17. Yes, it can be if you are trying to install a Hopper 3. It does take a couple of extra manual steps to get the things to work out properly but it can be done. My personal recommendation (which is of no value to anyone) is that you do not do this and stick to the Hopper 2 or below.
  18. Yes, it's a silver. It has a DDEC I controller which is the only problem as something is not quite right and no one can figure out what. I need to find someone who remembers how to upgrade it to DDEC III.
  19. I get between 5 and 5.5 MPG. This is absolutely NOT a van conversion!
  20. But what is there to do anywhere even close to Perry? If you want to draw folks from 1000 miles away, what is the draw before or after the rally? There is nothing nearby to see or do in the area so you really need to have a desire to hang out at the fairgrounds (nice fairgrounds, I give you that!) and nothing else to make this a good rally.
  21. Thanks. Gotta go to Home Depot anyway. I will check it out.
  22. Mine did not come with plugs either. I didn't know such a thing existed. I will have to grab a couple. Thanks.
  23. Oh God, FMCA is returning to Perry, GA. How can you keep drawing attendees to the same venues over and over and over again?
  24. Keep in mind that your total days away from home does not add to your data used with Google Maps or WAZE but only the few hours that you drive on the few days that you drive to get from point A to point B. 250 miles and 8Mb of data is somewhere near nothing when compared to your 10GB plan. You would use substantially less if you downloaded the route on a free connection before you started but it's such little data that I (me, me along, don't care what you think) would consider it to be inconsequential in the whole scheme of things.
  25. I took a couple of trips and watched the amount of data used by Google Maps and WAZE. A 250 mile trip with Google Maps used about 8Mb and WAZE used about 15Mb. That's not going to make a dent in anyone data plan. How many days per year do you actually drive your RV. Even when we were doing the RV vendor circuit I only had about 60 driving days per year. So far this year I have only had 16 driving days so far.
