  1. If you want to get into an RV park with hookups you better make some phone calls now. I "did" Quartzsite as a vendor for many years but never did understand the fascination of the place. If you like to run around on an ATV in the desert I guess it's great but there are many deserts. If you are looking for a deal, there are none at Quartzsite as Kenny King and his Magic Tent show just gets more and more expensive for the vendors so they can't give you a deal and still make money. Head for Yuma if you must as the dealers at the market place there actually do offer deals. Most anything is better than Quartzsite in the Winter. Usually, cold and windy or, if not, warm with the possibility of massive flooding should it rain. When the wind blows in Q it's that ultra fine silt and even if you never open a door or window in your RV, somehow all your horizontal surfaces will be dusty. So glad we don't have to go any more.
  2. I use them for auto and used to use them when I had a house. However, they don't do any kind of full timer RV insurance so I had to go elsewhere. If they will cover your RV with the coverage you want at a price you like then you have found the right company.
  3. You should have been at the one in Brunswick, ME in 2000. Right about 8,000 coaches lined up on the Air Force base runways! I think it was the last time that FMCA rally where everyone really wanted to go!
  4. Yes. Just keep in mind that there are things using power even when all appliances are off. Elec. water heater? HH fridge? All those charging blocks for phones and computers? Battery charger? Lots of stuff so just watch your usage but you should be fine.
  5. Here are pictures of my recent headlight update. LED projector lights provide great light. I have to look into Jlemont's driving lights but the link's no good!

    Inverter

Not a problem in my HH fridge. As long as I keep it powered up with the inverter it keeps making ice and never creates a block of anything! Manhattan's are ready at 5 pm even after driving all day as we did today.
  7. I'm not a Debbie Downer. I just said putting bumper stickers on my RV was not for me. You can do whatever you like.
  8. Get a new decal? Pretty cheap and you don't have to drill a hole or do anything special. That is on the assumption that you can find any real reason that you need this thing on your coach. It's not for me but YMMV.
  9. You buy or don't buy stocks based upon the belief that the company will or will not be profitable. If you buy, or fail to buy, based upon emotions you are bound to fail as an investor. Just the facts, please!
  10. If he is going to be the next Wal-Mart I need to buy stock now. The early investors in Wal-Mart became mega Millionaires!
  11. Actually he said he hated motorhomes. Good Sam Club CEO: “I hate motorhomes.” October 7, 2016 Chuck Woodbury (Friday, Oct. 7, 2016) — Good Sam Club and Camping World CEO and Chairman Marcus Lemonis, on the day of Camping World’s IPO and its first day of trading, told CNBC he “hates motorhomes.” “We don’t like motorhomes because they don’t turn as fast, they’re not high margin,” he said on Friday when talking about the future of Camping World. “We sell them, but they are not big for us. It’s really about selling warranties, insurance, roadside assistance, service, parts.” Lemonis told CNBC that about 3.3 million RVers of an estimated 9 million in the United States, “have given us money in the last 24 months.” With 11.4 million shares, Camping World’s initial public offering Friday raised $251 million. It’s trading on the New York Stock exchange as CWH.
  12. Wow, that happened on my 1995 Cummins engine. The fuel line just split lengthwise. It was the #6 line and when they tried to get that line it kept coming back with all 6 lines. There was an undeclared recall and if one line went they were to replace all lines. This happened to have happened on our way out of an FMCA Perry rally (our first) while headed to a Freightliner rally in GA. It blew along the way and we limped up the hills on 5 cylinders with instructions from Cummins on how to do so. They took REALLY good care of us at the rally!
  13. Here's the tough part. Dandridge is not close to Pigeon Forge but I can't think of anywhere close to Pigeon Forge where lakes and kayaks come into play. Maybe we could break this down into 2 separate topics. If you are heading to the mountain in hopes of finding good kayaking I think you might have a bit of an issue. If you want to visit and be close to Gatlinburg I like Twin Creeks but if you want one place to visit the entire area then I like Creekside as mentioned above. Creekside also has much more room and is easier to get around but I like the convenience of Twin Creeks and it's cozy nature.
  14. Did anyone mention a 2011 AWD Equinox? Maybe I missed that.
  15. You can save a boatload of money by using FL as your State of residency. SD and TX tags are VERY expensive by comparison and health insurance can be totally unavailable in SD and TX is very expensive. Just be sure you look at all the costs before you pick your home.
  16. While the MPG is interesting, how is everyone calculating the cost per mile now that you have to add DEF to the cost per mile. Is the cost so low as to be negligible? It's some miles per gallon of fuel plus some miles per gallon of DEF for the real $ per mile.
  17. I was pretty sure I had a good answer on this and then I realized that anyone who was capable of using Google Maps would have the same information that I had. If they posted here, they either had no clue or were looking for more information than simply the route. If you want the best route, use Google Maps. If you want someone to tell you where to go and what to see you will need to give us a whole lot more information on what you want to see.
  18. What does that have to do with...........sorry, never mind.
  19. 7 to 10 MPG. There it is! No one can give you more accurate information. It depends upon the coach, how it's loaded, how it's driven and the kinds of roads you drive it on. If that's not good enough you are likely going to just have to give it a try and see what happens. My coach only gets 5.5 MPG but it's an old technology bus weighting 40.000 #. As has been said again and again, YMMV!
  20. As Herman mentions, if you want the best, the best is M&G. It does not use any battery power, just an air line from the coach to give excellent proportional braking.
  21. I hope that information will still be available to you after FMCA changes there business from being about Motorhomes to being about any old RV of any kind. The vote is coming up and I can assure you that the fix is in. It is going to happen and FMCA is going to drop Family and Motor Coach to become an association using FMCA with no words associated with those letters. FMCA will just become another Good Sam trying to appeal to everyone everywhere which we all know is impossible.
  22. M&G is the best and requires no power. It's not available for every car but it is the best.
  23. Before you join a chapter you have to join FMCA so joining a chapter is not going to grow the FMCA family as you are already a part before you got involved with a chapter. How would someone who is not an FMCA member learn about a local FMCA chapter? No, I am not a member of a chapter. As the old saying goes "I wouldn't join any club that would have me as a member"! OK, just a joke, but seriously I am not a chapter member as I still travel and work full time so there's really is no chapter that would be appropriate for me and which I could learn or share information with as we are rarely in the same place multiple times. I am firmly against having towables join FMCA (I know, you are surprised to learn this!) as I don't believe that this is the business, beliefs or values that started this organization. It's sad to think that the powers that be can't find a way to run the business (organization or whatever you would like to call it) the way the founders wanted. I know stuff changes but it's not like there are no longer people buying and enjoying motor homes any more. It's just a matter of FMCA not doing the job of getting those owners interested in what they are doing. Once towables join, FMCA will lose even more motor home owners but hopefully the new organization which will no longer even use the word Family or Motor Home in their name can re-invent itself (completely) and offer a broader range of services to a broader audience.
  24. I have not attended but I have talked to friends who have been there, watched many videos and followed a live web cam feed one year. Beside the high cost of going, there are no facilities and they don't appear to be big fans of you running a generator. This is a complete counter-culture event so you must like nudity, art, and dirty, dusty, windy conditions. I would like to go but I think I would feel seriously out of place in my current RV. There are a now a bunch of millionaires setting up comfy cozy communities for themselves which does not make the rest all that happy but that's the thing about a do-as-you-please event. You can't really regulate who does what or how or where or when. I really do have it on my bucket list but I think I would need to get my rig hooked up with a bunch of solar and just let the moment sweep us away.
  25. We all all members of FMCA but the business that operates this organization is FMC with which we have nothing to do. If you or someone else wants to volunteer to help this business make money that's OK but it's not my job. This business is not a charity helping those less fortunate, it's just a business like Good Sam or Escapee working to make money to support the various activities they offer. Actually, they offer various activities to raise money, they just are not doing as good a job as they used to. Remember the FMCA rally in Brunswick, ME? I do, I was there. There were something like 8,000 coaches there. What's the average rally these days 1500-2000 (or less) when they hold them in Perry, GA over and over and over again? At Indy was a great change but boy I bet that was hot! Again, I am not trying to make it sound like I am offended that FMC makes money. That's their job. If you didn't have paid employees you would not have FMC without FMC you don't have FMCA. Where I come from is from being a business owner most of my life and I never asked anyone to do work for free so my employees could get a pay check.
