Locating Good Installer For Flat Tows In Houston
BillAdams replied to gnmiller's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
Smitty's installed an M&G braking system for me at a reasonable price and in the promised time frame. Good company doing business the way you would hope. -
Satellite Communications Services Revisited
BillAdams replied to mweiner's topic in Roadside Assistance
I am confused by this part. When you travel in it, do you park it somewhere and then go to a hotel or you do you sleep and wake in it while traveling. If this is the only place you stay when you travel then you are living in your RV. You seem offended that someone might imply that you live in your RV but it's OK to live in your RV for short periods of times as well as living in your RV full time. -

Seattle to Philadelphia Sept and Oct
BillAdams replied to brucebollert's question in Destinations/Attractions
Weather should not be an issue.....that is, of course, if you are willing to sit out some weather (and you should be). As mentioned, weather should not be an issue at all at that time of year but with the weather changes that are going on these days things can change quickly. So, if you see that it's going to snow along your current route today, travel tomorrow. The roads will be fine. You just need to use a bit of common sense and understand that every Interstate highway in the US gets the best treatment possible. That's not to say it's all good all of the time but it will be all good as soon as possible and you will be able to sit still until the highway crews (or Mother Nature) have made the way safe again. -
4580 on the tag seems quite low. What are the rating of the various axles listed on your coach. Mine is 13,000, 22,000 and 10,000. I don't carry 10,000 on the tag but if I remember correctly it is substantially more than 4600. You absolutely do need to have all 4 corners weighed before you try to adjust any of the tire pressures but at least you should now be able to tell if any of your axles are overloaded. As mentioned above, you also need to know if these weights were done with a full fuel tank (it should have been) 2 people on board (it should have been) and full propane (if appropriate) and full fresh water and empty black and grey tanks. If would also be OK if you had a 1/2 tank of fresh water and 1/2 full black and grey but it needs to be some kind of a realistic representation of how you will be using the coach. I have to assume that this was also done with all the stuff you would have on board while traveling. Clothes, food, tools....all supplies. When you are ready to adjust the air pressure on your tires you will need to search out a 4 point weighing option. You might even be able to find a truck scale where you could drive onto the scale with only the right side and then left side wheels. This is still not perfect but you can do some math and get a fairly accurate picture of what amount of weight is being carried by each tire.

My best guess would be that WAY too many FMCA articles were done on RV's that nearly none of us could afford and not the motorhome that the masses would have interest in. I read the tech issues, the destination reports and a few others but felt like FMCA was rubbing those expensive palaces in my nose. "Look!, here's another RV you will never be able to buy!" I am sure FMCA gets paid by these folks to advertise their products but I would rather have seen more of a Consumer Reports approach. This might not play well in the advertising realm of FMCA (you know, FMCA tells the truth and the coach manufacturer pulls all advertising). It certainly has to be a tough challenge to present at least some of the truth and still get that almighty dollar. I wish them the best of luck with the new Good Sam format that will be voted on and approved at the upcoming convention but personally, I don't think it's the right decision. I think the right thing to do is to remain Family MOTOR COACH and fix the problems that have lead to the potential demise of this company. There are plenty of motor home owners. FMCA is just not doing what needs to be done to attract their attention.

It appears there is a frame around the TV. Look for screws on either side, possibly set back a bit, that would hold that frame in place. Usually 1 screw at top and bottom on each side which screw into blocks attached to the inside of the frame. Also check inside the cabinet from underneath to see if you can see anything in that area but I suspect it is all accessible from the front.

There was a period where FMCA gave a free 1 year membership to anyone buying a motorhome so it's real easy to make those numbers go up quickly. The problem is getting those numbers to have any meaningful value when the majority of those free memberships vanish 12 months later. I have a 192XXX number from 1994 and now it's approaching 450000. That's a lot of folks who came, saw and lost interest.

What FMCA insurance? Vehicle insurance? That would only cover all of your vehicles if all of your vehicles were being insured by FMCA. Could you clarify what FMCA insurance you have and on what?

Allowing Towables Vote At Indianapolis In July
BillAdams replied to jeff753's topic in FMCA Feedback
If you didn't/don't vote using a ballot then your opinion here is of no value there. I have to assume that the fix it in and FMCA has already decided that their best option to keep their business in business is to accept membership from any breathing person no matter their status. -
Great deals available from Groupon. I get cheap oil changes and other deals but I get at least 1 offer per day. Way too much.
-
I can't remember the last time I got an e-mail from FMCA or any anyone who might run an ad in the FMCA magazine. Now, if I could get rid of all the Groupon E-mails, that would be awesome!

50 amp service = 12000 watts so you have 3 times the power on a 50 That's what we have said all along. 12000 Watts is 100 amps. A coach or an RV plug wired for 50 amp service has 100 amp available for use. 30 amp service is 30 amps available 50 amp service is 100 amps available.
-
John, I am still unsure your information is helping anyone understand the difference between 30 amp and 50 amp coaches. The "theoretical" amount of power available to a 30 amp coach is 30 amps. The amount of power available to a 50 amp coach is 100 amps (50 amps on each leg). That's a huge difference between the way the 2 coaches are wired. This does require the 50 amp RV to be plugged into 50 amps service. This service has 2 50 amp breakers with a bar connection so that if one trips they both trip. It also requires the park run the correct sized wiring to the pole and the RVer use a cord rated for 50 amp service. This is a fat cord and normally contains 3-#6 wires plus 1-#8 ground wire.
-
I would not return either and I would make sure you post the information on as many sites as possible to prevent others from running into the same kinds of issues. RVparkReviews is a good site but they used to require you to review 3 parks before they would allow any to post and if they were all negative they would not post any of them.
-
To the very slightest degree, this is correct. If you exceed 50 amps on any 1 leg the breaker will trip cutting power to both legs. However, you could use 40 amps on one leg and 40 amps on another leg without causing any issues with the 100 amp service available. For some period of time you could use 50 amps on both legs and the breaker should still hold but I really don't recommend this! Over 50 amps on either leg and the service is going down.
-
This is not correct. All of your circuits will still work if you plug a 50 amp coach into a 30 amp plug. You just need to monitor your total AC usage to ensure that all combined circuits do not exceed 30 amps. In a 50 amp coach you have 2 50 amp circuits or a total of 100 amps available. When you plug into the 30 amp plug, everything still works but you are limited to a total of 30 amps.
