  1. Instead of bloviating get out there and recruit. If you really like FMCA talk it up every where you see a motorhome or encounter a motorhome owner.
  2. Absolutely right Ross got to talk FMCA membership up with everyone you meet. Not just at campgrounds, but at places where you're getting service work donee, places where tourists go. We meet lots of motorhome owners at the Duplin Winery in Myrtle Beach. It's a part of the requirements for belonging. Working on one I met a the Panera bread grand opening this week we will probably get them next week.
  3. Way to go Wildebill. Unfortunately, I had a heart attack in Arizona and am just starting to get back on my feet. FMCA assist does work we finally got the motorhome back two weeks ago driver did the 2400 miles in 3 days. See you all at Indy.
  4. I thought this topic was towable so yes or no. I agree planning fmca events is a very tedious process but planning for being able to attend ialso requires long term view and it's not easy when fmca doesn't forecast and publish dates and locations even though they are already projected. The question still is how to grow membership with out towables and the answer is stop talking about it here and get out and talk to the motorhome owners in your campground or RV resort. The more you talk fmca up the better your opportunity to sign up a new member. It's like any other sales job the more potential customers you talk to the better your chance of making a sale. I said before if everybody brought in one new member we'd have 140,000. I did mine this year where's yours.
  5. Carl, We tend to be volunteers, not for glory, not for money, just to help out the organization. We've worked at seminars, the store, parking and security with FMCA good sam and other clubs. I guess we do it because we're bored. Clubs need volunteer participation to help keep costs down whether it's a local chapter or a national org. from a John Lee(MVC), Frances Fonner(tiffin travelers), or Conrad Klienpeter(Frost-tees) to a Jim Duncan, John Reynolds, Dave Kestler, John Walker or Charlie Adcock. That's what keeps an organization energized, not a blog or forum.
  6. I don't know where manholt gets his info from, but the people who man(woman) the FMCA store at area and national rallies are members who volunteer. As for Jeff I'm 71 years old and this past year I signed up a 72 old and a 39 year old. I guess I messed up because that only comes out to 55 and a half. I'll try harder this year to get to that 71 average.
  7. Carol worked very hard to get her father WW2, Korea, and Vietnam Nam Navy Vet and her mother buried in Arlington.
  8. Chapter also has a VP Dell Jackson and can be found in chapter directory on this web site
  9. Plain old bar soap is an excellent metal to metal lube also great on wooden drawer slides some of the older cabinetry has. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it.
  10. Not sure if they still do our, last stay was 2015, but Ft Summit KOA in Davenport Fl just off I 4 has free bus to Disney world in morning and return at night as well as Universal and Sea World.
  11. My last three motorhomes two Fords and a Workhorse one class C and two class As all got 6.5 to 7.5 mpg. The biggest contributing factor is not the weight or if your towing a car, it's the wind and terrain.
  12. We loved the floor plan until we actually saw it at the Tiffin rally in Sevierville back in 2015. Besides the front overload issue when traveling on the road you cannot get in fridge or other parts of coach without putting out a slide. People in the adjacent lane of the highway don't like that.
  13. We purchased a winegard razar automatic installed by Camping World when our oem HD360 crapped out. Did not want hole in ceiling so payed a bundle for this antenna. Would not recommend this unit to anyone. It hardly picks up signals at over 15 miles and they constantly fade in and out. Buyer beware.
  14. I know I am committing heresy by offering this info, but there is an extensive thread on the 34PA overload problem on the tiffin RV network blog . The potential problem was identified right after the model was introduced. I would go to the tiffinrvnetwork.com website.

If not Ft Wilderness, Ft Summit KOA off I-4 in Davenport and TT Orlando in Clermont as well as several Encore parks are also convenient to the training camps as well as Disney Parks
  16. We have stayed at both Oak Plantation and James Island. Except for the speed bumps every 50 ft and the weird people that work at/ run it Oak Plantation has nice sites and is convenient to much of Charleston. Even the traffic problems on 17 can be overcome by using the adjacent roads. James Island County Park is great if you like a more woodsy / camping experience.
  17. Manholt is correct in his assessment. CW used to be great so was Good Sam but now they both seem to have lost something. I only take my unit to them for oil changes, and that only because it's a Ford Chasis. I have my coach work done by a group called Camping Connection, unfortunately they are only here in Myrtle Beach and Kissimmee. I think they are now affiliated with Campers Inn.
  18. The Wranglers were 4wd manual transmission. Put transfer case in neutral and have a good time.
  19. We have been towing with dolly since 2004. Once you get the knack it's easy to load and unload quickly. Biggest advantage is I can tow almost any car without modification. We have towed 2 pt cruisers one auto, one manual, a 2 jeep wranglers both manual, a Ford Taurus auto, 3 jeep patriots all auto. We go up and down mountains in NC, GA,TN, KY, WV and PA with no problems.
  20. Are any other FROST-TEES planning to attend Glamarama in Goshen Next Month???
  21. Tom: thank you for posting the link. your analysis is one of the three I was referencing in my first post and probably the best, and definitely the most complete. I have shared it with my friends last year when they asked me the same question. There was another on the Good Sam RV Forum that compared cost of diesel vs gas awhile back and also a general one on the trvn forum. Tom
  22. Don't worry at $.54 you won't make the gov reimbursement. This question has been broached on many forums and the input data varies a great deal based on location: cost of fuel, state taxes, insurance etc. vary from time to time and state to state. Several people have broken down the cost difference of diesel vs gas on this forum.
  23. Also be careful of running generator while parked for a long time on grass as the hot exhaust can cause problems.
  24. No. 7 is my pet peeve because the cell phone dings constantly. I can't tell if it's the phone or some warning signal from the MH trying to tell me something is wrong like my signal light still on or jack creeping down or emergency brake etc. Just go to sleep and let me drive.
  25. Perry was great. Far superior to the Madtown rally last summer. Wife and I were constantly on the go, between volunteer duties, chapter happy hours, vendors, coach displays and most of all catching up with old and making new friends. National and area rally's are the best way to enjoy your FMCA. Time flies when you're having fun, and you get more out of them when you volunteer.
