  1. Mike, you and I could talk for hours! We are both in our 40's (kids in school) and by the way...you had me at BBQ and Beer, that's typical weekend camping trip for us in the early evening after a day spent exploring the local area. Smoker is going strong, other campers are lurking trying to figure out what I'm cooking as the smoke smells so good. I'm passing out beers like a bartender talking RV stuff, kids are off meeting other kids probably all with their phones in their faces . I believe you said it all above, some alterations are needed to attract younger motorhome owners. I believe there is a way and to be able to do while walking the line. I'm here for the magazine and the forum, forum is free but I feel if I don't contribute it might go away plus I don't believe in mooching. I also like the experience the FMCA crowd has to offer, I can sit and chat with the experienced people for hours and get great places to go and places to avoid. One thing in life training cannot replace is experience.
  2. Good to know, I was wondering about that when I saw the "national wildlife" area on the map. I was considering a local campground, until I saw the photos . Glad I didn't reconsider. What's that saying, "you only have to run faster than the slowest person" DW's in trouble I can carry in FL also, wont end well for a Gator.
  3. Herman, already looking into it. Waiting for my oldest to go on her college internship in 2018-2019. Also going to update some stuff in the house while the clock ticks for better resale and we are gone! Headed down south.... Narrowed it down to GA or TX. I am confident TX would be better for work as I have 18-20 to go before retirement. My focus area to call home; if you took Irving TX and went 45 minutes out in a circle
  4. Carl, up here $80 per night is a bargan, $110 is the average. I saw $100 and for that...wow what a great deal! We are only there for three nights. Then off to Disney for 6 nights then onto St Augustine for 4 nights. I booked here for St Augustine at $50 per night. That made me cringe, you book a CG up here for $50 you'd better have someone standing guard outside . http://stagecoachrv.net/
  5. Carl, you taught me well!! I have "Slap yo Momma" in the coach and the house
  6. When Kay told me it was a state park, I cringed, as it turns out those are only bad words up in the NE when you own a motorhome .
  7. Keon, Kay has a hidden gem in his backyard! You have to check out that website and add that place to your must do list. We are headed through there in 2018 in route to TX I believe, or I'm going to go that way regardless. Hopefully we can spend some more time with Kay and Sue while in route to Galveston. Here is a picture of the camp store's interior.
  8. Anyone ever stay here or in the area of Port Charlotte, FL? We are booked here next month and I am looking for ideas in the area to explore. We are planning to take a trip over the Edison and Ford Winter Estates as well as Sanibel Island. Here is the website to the RV resort. http://www.myakkamotorcoachresort.com/
  9. Brett, it looks like a super C coach. I see a pitman arm in the photo.
  10. Last night on Facebook, a woman was seeking help getting her 40' DP from Florida to the west coast. Apparently her husband suffered a stroke while they were snow birding in FL, he is ok but very weak and cannot drive it. I asked her if they were FMCA members, her response, "What is FMCA, never heard of it"? I sent her a link to the forum, recommending she ask of ideas how to get her coach home. I felt bad for her, all of the trolls turning her awful experience into a profit for them made me sick, I see she hasn't posted anything yet on the forum. Hoping she doesn't fall into a trap. Here in lies the problem folks....never heard of it.....If you are snowbirds in FL for a season, how do you not know about FMCA? They should have been handed information at time of coach purchase, if from a dealer in my opinion. there must have not been a strong presence at the campground. I think we need sales people pounding the pavement, making arrangements with campgrounds for discounts, and shaking the hands of coach owners.
  11. They are and also hilly. Its the PA turnpike through and around the mountains, traveled it many times, other than the tolls its not a bad road trip, kind of boaring as there is not much to look at. Other than climbing up to I-80 and head west, those are the best routes to take. I-80 isn't much different with the curves and hills.
  12. Put a pan under it, remove the filter, put oil on the o-ring on the new filter (I use motor oil), install filter. Pump the rubber plunger on top of the housing until it gets hard, at that time the filter should be full of fuel. Start engine. You might have to swap the bowl on the bottom to the new filter, some come with some come without. O-rings for the bowl should be in the kit. If you want to see how it should feel when full, pump it prior to removing the old filter.
  13. Rich, good information. gordonpond, we had a 1998 Santara that did the same thing but ONLY on the HOUSE side. The chassis battery is only connected to the engine as it was from Ford. Is the battery dead? Have you tried the boost switch on the dash to start the engine from the house battery? If you are having house battery problems; Go to the house battery storage (under the entry step on ours) the breakers and solenoid are all located there. Our solenoid went bad over a winter, when I pressed the switch I could hear it snap, but it wasn't making contact inside. If you have a test light check the two poles on top with the switch on and you should have power. the solenoid looked like this; The following year, same problem, that was a bad ground on the house battery, FYI it was only 12" from the battery, follow the negative cable.
  14. As I see it for us; I love the comradery on the forum and I enjoy reading the FMCA magazine. That's all it has to offer us at the present time. Camping discounts in the future above the GS discount would be huge to the younger crowd. Most campgrounds don't even know what FMCA is let alone offer a camping discount for members. I agree, rallies don't work when you have kids in school, believe me I have been trying for 4 years to make it work, cant seem to do it. What is it going to offer a family with a trailer, think about it? Tire program; NOPE, no tires in those sizes from the manufactures offered on FMCA. FMCA Assist; Maybe, but most likely the spouse would have the campground put the trailer in their storage area and drive the vehicle home. FMCA magazine; articles would have to change drastically, and the magazine would become much larger which would inflate the cost of it. Forum; NO, its free to anyone that takes the time to sign up. Rallies; Maybe, but most trailer people would be in the same class as I am with a family at home. Anyone got anything else??
  15. I missed the personal attacks, glad I did I have low tolerance for that stuff!
  16. Jeff, funny you mentioned that! I cannot even locate a single notification that went along with the post. My guess is this post will be next
  17. We haven't been to their campground since 2013 with the old coach. We are booked to go this June/July, cant wait!
  18. Curious, do any of you find it difficult to pull in and out of the smaller fueling stops i.e. ground clearance entering and exiting? I always lean toward truck stops for fuel, mostly due to the turnover rate, convenience and no issues with the parking lot size. I did get stung with a Love's last year with bad fuel, anyway...... I have tried to go to the cheapest place, could get in but had to unhook the toad to turn around and get out, then to make it worse it wasn't a high flow nozzle. I think I might have been there close to an hour . After that, no way unless its off an interstate and well advertised that they have "Truck Diesel".
