  1. As Bill says, Texas Trails is a good park in Pharr on the border of Edinberg . It is a 1 hour 15 minute drive from South Padre Island. First time rate is $295 + electric for a month. The parks on or very near to the Gulf near Corpus Christi leave a lot to be desired in my opinion. Gulf Waters RV Resort is very nice but expensive. Off shore Majestic Oaks is very nice as well as Southern Oaks. So far this year the weather in the valley has been warmer and drier than the coast.
  2. Sunny and 74 in the valley, played golf this am. Nice day but 20mph wind, couldn’t putt to save my soul.
  3. Ian, Corpus Christi area was much nicer this year in my opinion. We are heading back there next week from the RGV. South Padre has had fog almost every day and the campgrounds there are very crowded. Several campgrounds north of CC are very nice and fall into the price range you want. Talking to people who have been coming to RGV for 20-25 years the volume of winter Texans has had a marked decrease in the last 6-8 years but the area still has traffic congestion. I might also recommend Galveston to you, a lot to do and beach is right there. So far this winter, out first to spend all our time in Texas, we like Corpus and Galveston best. The weather hasn’t been as good as I would like but Arizona where we usuall go isn’t great this year either.
  4. Bill, weather is crappy back home. I guess the whole country is colder this year but I thought Texas would have more sunshine.
  5. Has this been a typical Texas winter in regards to weather? The RGV has been cloudy well over 60% of the time and on the cool side. Is this an aberration or somewhat normal?
  6. i had a progressive hardwire unit which did its job and sacrificed itself to protect my coach. I replaced it with a portable progressive unit for simplicity. Rain water in the bin while driving did us in, new unit is better protected.
  7. Carl, looked up Rancho Viejo and found that it is a resort with hotel and condo’s, no mention of RV facilities and couldn’t find it on RV Parky. We are going back to SPI on Friday for a quilt show for my wife, I will try to look further then. We were thinking of a short 2-3 day visit to San Antonio on our way home and also Kerrville area.
  8. Went to SPI today, not real impressed. Guess it would be better if I was younger and hotel inclined. I think when we leave Pharr we will head to San Antonio and Hill country and then maybe back to Rockport on way home. I want to get home in early April. I am unable to find post on campgrounds around Hill Country, any suggestions would be welcome, also San Antonio area.
  9. Anyone have recommendations on campgrounds in the Brownsville area?
  10. Do you think that might be because he was mediocre when he played for Michigan.
  11. Bill, yes we are still at Texas Trails. Will be moving on to San Antonio and Hill Country in a couple of weeks. Still haven’t decided if we will go to Big Bend or back to the coast.
  12. Didn’t waste my time, can’t stomach Brady and Rams didn’t belong there.
  13. 55 at noon, going to high 50’s today and back to 70’s for rest of week in RGV. Only problem is 30+mph wind, makes hitting golf shots a challenge.
  14. Got it reconnected and works fine, now to purchase a new surge protector.
  15. I did verify post with meter and it is good. I think the unit failed because it got wet.
  16. No, got wet in heavy rain downpour. Must not have had door to compartment shut tight. Did you just reconnect the wires with wire nuts and then tape over?
  17. Bay were electric hookup is got rain water on drive to RGV and surge protector worked for 1 day and now shut down and not passing any current thru. Progressive said circuit board probably dead, said to let it dry for a few hours and try again or get a new unit. Tech also said that I could use wirenuts and reconnect direct without protector. Am thinking about doing this and getting new protector which isn’t hardwired, if protector is outside what would keep it from blowing in rain?
  18. Bill, you were right about the rv park in Mission. We went there and I looked at the site and told them no way, my mh would not fit. They gave me a full refund. We went to the place you recommended and they gave me a deal for first timer of 295 for a month plus electric. Park is less than 50% occupied, older but very serviceable. We are in a row with no one within 10 sites either way.
  19. 70 and partly cloudy in the valley. 5 mph breeze.
  20. Thanks all, we are off to Mission Tx tomorrow for a month. We really enjoyed Galveston and Corpus Christi.
  21. Bill, when did they change over to cat engine or could you get either or? My 05 has a cat.
  22. I may be wrong but I believe Bill has a cat engine.
  23. Wayne, it always seems to be windy here on the coast. Is it windy in the summer also? In Michigan we have about 1 month of high 80-90+ with very high humidity, like going out in a wet blanket. We still manage to play golf in early am. Is the hill country drier? Are housing costs lower in hill country or similar to coastal area?
  24. Thanks Mike, we did spend a few days in Fredericksburg last year and we plan to spend more time in that area this year on our way home to Michigan. Storms are a concern but in the Midwest we have the threat of tornadoes and flooding to put up with. I guess anywhere you look there are negatives as well as positives.
  25. Texans, tell me again why the coastal bend area isn’t the place to be in the summer?
