  1. There are several youtube videos out there that discuss installation of RV outlets at your home. Google "30A RV electrical Outlet".
  2. Thanks guys! I think I will check out the Android since I am already somewhat familiar with it. Jack
  3. My niece has an iPhone that she can talk into and tell it to "send text to Joe Blow." Then after a short pause she can speak into it with the wording of the text. Does anyone know what models of the iPhone does that? Do any of the Androids do that? I wish I had grandchildren to explain all this to me.
  4. You are correct that the quantity of air molecules affects the performance. When the turbocharger compresses the air, it is adding molecules. Air at sea level has the same percentage of molecules as air from the higher altitude that is compressed to sea level.
  5. 2103? That's pretty amazing!
  6. I wouldn't count on those bus/train station lockers. Last time I used one (10 or more years ago), it had a sign that said there was a time limit. I think it was one or two days. Don't know if that is common practice or not. And I don't know what they do if you do leave it longer. They are intended for cheap short-term storage.Trying a gun club sounds like a good idea if you can find one near where you are crossing. Even if they won't store it, they might know who would. Good luck!
  7. You could also look into a bank near the border that would rent you a safe-deposit box. You don't necessarily need to have an account at a bank to rent a box. Depends on the bank's rules. You should also tell the bank what you are storing in case they have rules against firearms. Hope this helps.
  8. Many class A motorhomes can be programmed so as to not turn on the brake lights when exhaust brake is activated. Most toad braking systems are activated when motorhome brake lights come on so not having them come on with the exhaust brake would keep toad brakes from being applied. They would still apply if you used the motorhome brakes. Downside is when the exhaust brake is activated, no motorhome brake lights either. Anyway, if this idea would work for you, check with your motorhome or chassis manufacturer for info on how to reprogram.
  9. FMCA offers a plan that looks very similar to the Good Sam Version. I haven't used either one, but have seen ads for each one in their respective magazines. The ad for the FMCA version is on page 19 of the latest FMCA magazine. Their phone number is 877-202-4176.It says it is offered through Seven Corners, what ever that is. FMCA.SEVENCORNERS.COM GoodSamTravelAssist.com Don't know how they compare feature wise, but a quick look at the Good Sam website vs the FMCA ad it looks like Good Sam has more features. Hope this helps.
  10. Strange that you could only find three reports. I went to the site and entered "ACC" in the search box and got back lots of complaints about this company. Didn't count them, but at least two dozen then I quit reading them.
  11. OregonBrewski --- Does your state (or the state where you bought the Ford) have a lemon law? If so, you should be able to make them buy it back. If not, does your owners manual state that the car can be flat towed (following the instructions in the owner's manual)? If that is the case then again, Ford should be liable at least until the warranty runs out. The fact that they sent you a supplement stating you cannot tow it 4-down does relieve them of liability. You bought the car for that purpose before they (Ford) notified you it isn't towable. They have to honor the terms that applied the day you bought the car. I would spend the money to at least talk to a lawyer and get his opinion. You might be able to find info on the lemon law in your state by looking at the secretary of state's website for your state. Just realized from your name you may be from Oregon?? I googled "Oregon lemon laws on new vehicles" and got several hits saying they do have a lemon law and that buying back the car is a possible remedy. Check it out. Not sure, but I assume the laws of the state where you purchased the car would apply here if that is not the same as your state of residency. If you didn't purchase in the state you live in, I would definitely go the lawyer route.
  12. Not really experienced with this topic, but I can think of one idea. Check a few automotive upholstery shops in your area. I had carpet replaced in my car many years ago and a local shop custom fitted the new carpet (front only) and did a great job. They could probably make a dash cover from carpet or other material for you. Good luck!
  13. I hope the mud dobbers weren't home! Sorry, I couldn't resist.
  14. That is an odd one. What is the round hole for? A week or so ago, I saw either at Lowe's or Home Depot some modules that could be put into the rectangular holes in a cover plate. I know there were things like Ethernet connectors and coax connectors. Not sure what else they had, but on a double plate, you could put a 120V double outlet on one side and the other stuff on the other side. Or you could put modules on both sides. I am going to Home Depot tomorrow morning and I will check again. Does that odd round hole need to be there? The modular stuff could hold 2 or (I think) 3 modules and they don't have to be the same type. For example: you could have Ethernet in one position, coax in one and telephone jack in the third. Does this sound like it might work? I'll let you know what I find tomorrow.
  15. You make some very good points. In fact, I have seen several postings in the various forums I follow that say they have had good success. A few have had reservations, but the magazine article is the only source I remember that was strongly against it. I would say that if it works for you than that's is the way you should go. Happy trails ....
  16. Oops. I meant "oil" will not float on sulfuric acid. My bad.
  17. Check page 18 of the March 2014 FMCA magazine. It says NOT to put mineral oil in the batteries. Among other things, it points out that the liquid in batteries is not water; it's sulfuric acid. And water will not float on top of the acid. It will mix with the acid and coat the plates. I have seen several discussions about this idea, but this is the first one that so strongly opposed it. Interesting.
  18. Enterprise car rental will drive to you and pick you up and return you to their office for the rental. When you return the car, they will drive you back to your location. Not sure if they do that at every location or not.
  19. If you go OKC, also check out the National Cowboy Hall of Fame. It is a great museum of western art. Includes the original of Fraizer's "End of the Trail." If you go to Colorado Springs, take a tour of the U.S. Olympic Training Center. You can also tour the Air Force Academy. Just west of Colorado Springs is a cog railway that you can take to the top of Pikes Peak (14,210 feet). Beautiful park on the west side of town called "Garden of the Gods." I used to live in the Springs and always like to promote it.
  20. Until recently, I worked for several years on the front desk of a hotel who's brand is a major hotel chain in the U.S. All the employees in the hotel had to take a course on how to best serve guests with disabilities. It include a segment on service animals. I was very surprised to learn that miniature horses were listed as service animals. I have no idea what services these animals provide, but thought that it was really interesting that these little guys could be trained to do this kind of work. And I think someone mentioned this above, but you cannot charge the guest a fee of any kind for accommodating a service animal. (We did charge fees for regular pets at that hotel). Has anyone ever seen a miniature horse that was trained as a service animal? I would love to hear about it.
  21. Not familiar with towing the Pilot, but wanted to provide info on your comment about Roadmaster making tow brackets for it. The tow bar companies may provide tow bar brackets for many cars that that aren't approved for towing because RVers may modify the car with a lube pump (REMCO) or a driveshaft disconnect. And sometimes the same vehicle may be towable in a different transmission/transfer case configuration. On the other hand, I have seen several comments on this and other forums that say some Hondas are towable even though Honda doesn't approve it. Don't remember if the Pilot was one of them. Sorry I couldn't address your specific questions.
  22. Did you watch the follow up video? There was a link for it near the end of the first video. Using it, you don't need to touch the brake pedal. Makes it a one-man operation. I should say that I have not tried either of the setups. Just saw it awhile back and flagged it in case I ever move up to a DP.
  23. There is an excellent youtube video (actually two) that shows how to build a rig to make it easier to air up your tires from your DP air supply connector: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDOqCk6dTuo . When you watch the first one, near the end it will give you a link to the 2nd one which makes an improvement on the device built in the first one. The improvement is a way to bleed off the supply of air so the compressor will turn on and build up pressure again. Don't know if that made sense, but watch the videos and you will understand. Jack
