mrboyer, I looked into the Radio Shack unit. found the Owners manual on line and looked at the information on the receiver and sensors. The part number of ordering extra sensors was not in the information, so I called the home office and they could not find any information on ordering extra sensors. Might check with your local store ! So the question is did you get the remotes at the same time? So I'm left with, are they available or when will they be. Being a brand new item that issue is up in the air for me. The other item not covered. Will it scan all the remotes, one would think so; but no clear yes or no. Are you able to scan you 2 sensors? Item number 6300772 looks good as a single remote monitoring system. One must decide if its operation and the application, if it will do what they want. Rich.

Important Safety Issue: Monaco, HR & Safari Chassis
dickandlois replied to daperera@juno.com's topic in Type A motorhomes
Hi David, Welcome to FMCA ! The Real good thing is you an Rhonda did not get hurt and the coach did not suffer some major damage. Things could have turned nasty real fast. Good to know that you where able to find the information you needed and that Source Eng. was able to keep you moving along. Rich. -
Good Morning Howard, Been looking over some wiring information on Spartan Chassis, regarding the ignition switch wiring. Looks like you should see 4 wires at the switch. listed the colors that appear to be used in a number of there ignition wiring at the key switch. Power pin # 1 color Red-- always has power ACC pin # 4 color Pink-- should only have power in ACC position Ignition pin # 5 color Yellow-- Should have power when run, power to engine. Start pin #6 color Pink-- Should have power in the start position only. Also, your coach might have a separate switch to power some of the ACC circuits mounted somewhere. This turns on a relay to power these items with out using to key switch. Hope this helps. Rich.

There have been requests for information on finding Wheels and Rims used on Tow Dolly's and cargo trailers on the thread. I have listed 2 links that supply rims and Tires, plus a number of other parts including Axles, hubs and break parts. You can also find information on how measure the hubs to find the required Rim and Tire needed. http://www.trailerpart.com/ http://www.etrailer.com/ Rich. I will add information as I find other sources.

1997 Roadtrek A/C Replacement

Hi Tom, Welcome to FMCA. Thanks for your information. That is what make this Forum work! Every entry adds to the data and information base. Rich. -
seacurt, Welcome to FMCA. The lenses are one piece, so like DD mentioned you can blow in some compressed air or warm air from a hair drier. Think the head light assemblies on your year and model are the same as those on some model BMW's if you need to replace them in the future. Rich.

Alan, I posted a link to some information on a Harbor Freight battery isolator. The file has information on different Alternator set ups and the wiring one might find regarding the connections. This is for reference, not that the isolator size is correct for your setup, the size (Current wise) of your isolator maybe different. However many isolators are connected or wired very close to what is pictured in the information. Hope this link might help. http://images.harborfreight.com/manuals/93000-93999/93801.pdf Rich.

Hi Howard, Welcome to FMCA! The items you mentioned that stayed power up at times sound like items that would also power up in the ACC position on the ignition key. Could you verify if that is the way it works or not? Rich

Hi Bill, Any chance you could attach a picture of the monitor panel and one picturing the area including the range vent? Can you eyeball the black tank drain line and see where it runs from? Do not think they would have used any more pipe then necessary. Then what panel is close to where the drain exits. Rich.

Minder Research now has a 3 channel temperature minder on the market, Receiver- Mfg Part #: MRI-200HI and the remote sensor / transmitter - Mfg Part #: RS10. That come with three different frequencies. There are other suppliers for the wireless systems, but do not sell the extra or add on transmitters or a scanning receiver that I have found to date. These unit would be very handy for those who are winter campers, that want to monitor there, fresh water, gray and black holding tank temperatures to help prevent them from freezing. Some times all it takes is a medium sized light bulb in the bay area to keep thing just warm enough and also not a bad idea even if one has forced hot air or heating pads under or in the areas to prevent freezing. Its always good to know that things are working, turned on or above freezing. The other application would be to monitor the refrigerator and freezer(s) during the hot weather to keep food from spoiling and you do not have to keep opening and closing doors to know just what the temperatures are with a quick glance. Brett Wolfe did post some information on this issue. Rich.

Bill, I would check for a bad ground circuit, common to all the level sensors. common point for the problem is at a wire nut behind the monitor panel or a grounding screw or wire nut that could be in the area of the sensors. Rich.

Air Brakes Warning System - Pressure Guage Erratic Reading
dickandlois replied to Ferrari's topic in Chassis
Hi Blazeracing, Welcome to FMCA and good morning!! The problem is 99.9% in the module, caused by a cold solder connection or two. The sound you are hearing is likely coming from the Gauges. Bet it's a very soft sound, that the gauge makes as the readings come and go. I'm thinking you also have very good hearing !! ? That being the case, there are a number of us that would be willing to rent out your services. Our DW's often mention; you don't hear the sound coming from wherever. LOL Rich. -
Good to hear Jiminy, The resistance you where reading when you checked the fuse the first time was most likely the coil resistance and we have all been fooled by it at some point !! Rich.

Doug, Brett mentioned well done and I also say well done and grate pictures. Doug, I see you mentioned to clean and lightly lube the pivot points under one of your pictures, but writing that point into the text portion. Lube the pivot point on the follower arm while its off the post and this is a point where a drop a good lubricant can keep things working. The same goes for the pivot point for the spline drive. Note, To readers of this post that not all wiper arms have a follower arms, but most do have the spline set up. Although some have a spring that locks the arms onto the drive spline instead of a nut that holds then in place. Also notice that a slight change in the location of the splines make a big difference in the location on the wipers. Again !! Thanks Doug for you post. Well done !!!! Rich.

Hi Alan, Information on the Rexall wiring is very hard to come by. Regarding your battery charging and discharging issues I would look into some manufactures of battery isolators that you could install, just replace the existing set up. The isolator can have diodes short out internally and then one or the other battery systems Coach 12 volt or Chassis 12 volt will discharge or not charge. Have worked on one system where a internal short in the isolator would allow 12 volts from the coach battery to continue to power the ignition circuit and one had to remove the 12 volt feed to the ignition coil to stop the engine even with the key off. Rich.

Hi Herb, Welcome to FMCA. From your information, I would look at all the interconnecting links and the bell crank assemblies for any play in any of the connections. The bell crank assemblies are what the wiper blade arms attach to. Sounds like an over travel issue and it shows up at the higher speeds. Rich.

That is the one item changed in the entire circuit and its not out of the realm of possibilities. Have you checked all the ground connections and looked at the connections in the Generator J box. Over time the connections get rattled around pretty good. If you have a IR heat gun, with the generator running under load, scan the connections in the Generator circuit; just to see if there are any hot spots. One good last check before going through changing out the transfer Switch. Rich.

Butch thanks for the reply. Kind of makes one start thinking about the 12 volt control circuits. The other out of the box item is the thermostat circuit(s) they can cause some interesting issues! However, with the AC working on shore power it still makes one think of the power circuits and connections related to the generator. Rich.

Having worked in the technical and engineering field for a number of years; and trying to understand what physicist’s and clients wanted from there drawings and notes was always challenging. The curiosity of a 5 year old and the love of a challenge has fueled my life. I thought I would post some interesting notes pertaining to engineers. To the optimist, the glass is half-full. To the pessimist, the glass is half-empty. To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be. What is the difference between mechanical engineers and civil engineers? Mechanical engineers build weapons. Civil engineers build targets. The graduate with a science degree asks, "Why does it work?" The graduate with an engineering degree asks, "How does it work?" Normal people believe that if it isn’t broke, don't fix it. Engineers believe that if it isn’t broke, it doesn't have enough features yet. Two engineers were standing at the base of a flagpole, looking at its top. A woman walked by and asked what they were doing. "We're supposed to find the height of this flagpole," said Sven, "but we don't have a ladder." The woman took a wrench from her purse, loosened a couple of bolts, and laid the pole down on the ground. Then she took a tape measure from her pocketbook, took a measurement, announced, "Twenty-one feet, six inches," and walked away. One engineer shook his head and laughed, "A lot of good that does us. We ask for the height and she gives us the length!" Rich.

Dave, thanks for the PM. Glad you got things working after replacing the fuse and rewiring the trailer socket. Safe travels and bright lights !!! Rich.

Thanks to all for the feedback regarding the sun screens. Now to ponder all the differences and make a choice between all the different materials, mounting systems and how nimble one might be over the next few years. Simple! Well not quite. Oh ! what about the wheel covers ? OH Boy. Rich.

Hi Butch, Your issue is one that I have not run into yet. With 2 AC starting OK on shore power eliminates the current sensor(s) in the AC power panel from the picture. So it should not be a shedding issue. The only thing that comes to mind is a resistance issue that at the time only pops up under high current loads coming on all at once. That could mean the contacts on the generator circuit breaker have oxidized a little and limit the maximum current just enough to limit the surge current or a loose connection in the J box that connects the generator cable connections to the coach cable running to the transfer switch connections. Question, When you start the AC units manually, have you tried to start both of them at the same time? or do you start one and then the other with a short delay. One item that might be an issue is the ground connection between the generator ground and the chassis ground point. The other item that might cause the issue, what is your altitude and ambient temperature status. The 8K unit should run 2 -15,000 BTU AC units and have around a 3kw reserve at 100deg. and 500ft. in altitude. Rich.

How Do You Access The Engine From Above: 04 Expedition
dickandlois replied to kymeem's topic in Engines
Kymeem, Welcome to FMCA! I have not removed the particular cover in that area of your model coach, but finding the screws hidden in the carpet can be difficult. So I use a magnet and run it around the area(s) in question to locate them. Rich.- 3 replies

Hi Stuart, Thanks for the link. Took the time just now to look over their equipment line. Interesting and some other meters that they make look kind of neat. I will need to revisit the sight and look at some of the technical data sheets. Been using the old style manifold for years. Most shops that know they are dealing with a leak issue due run a vacuum and pressure test on the AC systems before recharging. The one item that does get over looked are the schrader valves and a leak detector is one way to test them, but good old soap and water will find most of the pressure leaks. Rich.
