  1. By the way, Welcome to FMCA , jrp62 and Loveto RV. The only item I have run into in like 40 years of owning a Motorhome was having my road service arrive and not have the proper sized socket to remover the wheel covers on the DP that a nice sharp piece of something made a tire not hold air. The fact that I'm just to detailed ( according to the DW) I had the size with me for the 3/4in. drive. So no sitting at a rest area for one to be delivered. 45 min. later we where back on the road. It took longer for the Road Service to find a tire then to change it and that fact has always made my gray mater twitch from time to time while driving in less populated areas. They are not quit as common as car tires, but once in over 175,000 miles is not to bad. Rich.

    Radio Noise

R 5000 connections. The power and ground connections are in the 16 pin Molex connector. Pins 1 and 9= yellow wire supply 12 power. 16 ga wire yellow. Pins 6 and 14 are the ground connection. 16 ga, wire black. Same connector pin 10=white / black wire = left front ground, pin 2 positive left side. Pin 11= Right side speaker ground, pin 3= right speaker positive. All connections are made using wire nuts or terminal blocks depending on OEM Coach. Rich.

    Radio Noise

From your information it sounds like everything else is working properly, Right. Do you know how to disable the Alternator Exciter circuit? The I pin or connection at the alternator, that is powered only when the ignition switch is in start. Should you radio noise go away then its and issue with the alternator connections, Ground being the big one or an issue with the regulator or brushes at the top of the list. Should that not clear he problem, then look for the speaker grounds as a problem. Sometimes real close to where the speakers are mounted. If they are clean and tight, the the other item that can cause the problem are the speaker cones themselves. Rich.
  5. Dean, Fan belts will always be fan belts to me. Regarding your set up it still drives the water pump and if the tensioner spring has become weak you can loose cooling flow. Brett, mentioned the speed of the fan related to the temperature sensors. Have you changed the filters and hydraulic fluid in the system? Rich
  6. AH ! spool damage or bearings? Should you have damage to the spool, then an oil test, to see what shows up. It is never good to have fine pieces of metal going through the engine. Compression / Top rings get beat up. Rich.
  7. What are your Intake manifold temperatures running relevant to the coolant temperature. What is the range of your Turbo charger pressures? When did you change the air filter last? What is your fan belt tension reading? What is your fuel lift pump pressure? Have there been any changes in the Silverleaf Trip logs that stand out. Other then the Coolant temperature? Rich
  8. I have not read this anywhere until tonight. Link. http://rvnewsservice.com/2013/05/08/recall-tells-thousands-of-rvers-dont-drive-your-rig/ Body of the information. RV awnings recalled. Don’t use your RV, feds advise May 8, 2013 by Russ De Maris | Filed under Misc.. ELKHART, IND – While there’s never a good time for a recall, the opening of spring RV season is certainly a bad time for telling potentially thousands of RV owners to NOT use their recreational vehicle. But that seems to be the sad case for a potential 27,000 RV owners whose rigs may be equipped with certain powered awnings manufactured by Indiana’s Dometic Corporation. In the most recent release of vehicle recall information, the U.S. National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) says that several models of Dometic’s WeatherPro motor powered awnings could have an assembly problem that could cause these awnings to “unfurl unexpectedly,” at any time, with the RV at rest, or on the road. To that end, NHTSA is telling anyone who owns one of the awnings not to take the RV out on the road until the unit is repaired. RV News Service staff have attempted to get a comment directly from Dometic regarding the situation, but the company has not yet returned calls. However, a representative of one of the major RV manufacturers whose units had the suspect awnings in use, Jayco, says at least 27,000 of the power awnings are in the recall. Other manufacturers specifically affected by the recall include Keystone, Winnebago, and Thor. However, Dometic also sold an aftermarket motor service kit which could also cause the problem. Not all RV manufacturers have provided a starting date for when they’ll begin servicing customers affected by this recall. If you have one of the affected Dometic units, having your awning unfurl while driving puts you at risk for a serious accident. The text of the NHTSA recall is reproduced below: [update: 5/9/2013: RV News Service was contacted by Richard Anderson, a representative of Dometic. Anderson was quick to reassure the RVing community that not all 27,000+ of the possibly defective units have been released into the consumer stream. Some units are still in the hands of RV manufacturers, others are on RVs that have not yet been sold to consumers. However, neither Dometic nor Anderson can be clear on just how many units are in the hands of final customers. ] Dometic is recalling certain WeatherPro motor powered awning models 805, 815, 825. 835, 845, 885, 855, and 905: 9100 Power awning models 910, 912, 913, 914, 915, 916, 917, and 91; and certain awning motor service kits with part numbers starting with 3307923 and 3310423. The serial number range for the WeatherPro and 9100 motor powered awnings is 306XXXXX thru 314XXXXX. These motor powered awnings were either sold in the aftermarket as replacement equipment or installed as original equipment on various recreation vehicles and horse trailers. The awning motor service kits were sold in the aftermarket as service parts for product already installed on recreation vehicles or horse trailers and do not carry an individual serial number. The awning motor service kit must be located by the part number shown above. The motor powered awnings and awning motor service kits were manufactured between February 13, 2013 and April 9, 2013. If the awning or service part installation sequence is not completely followed, the awning motor may unknowingly become damaged. If motor damage occurs, it is possible that the awning can unfurl unexpectedly, either while the coach is at rest or while in transit, increasing the risk of personal injury or a vehicle crash. Dometic will send notices to purchasers of the replacement awnings and will work with the vehicle manufacturers to identify and notify owners of the coaches that had the affected awnings installed on their recreational vehicles. Dometic staff will replace the affected motors with a design that is not subject to an out-of-sequence installation error. The recall has already begun. Owners should contact their RV manufacturer or Dometic at (888) 447-0003 for more information. Owners are being instructed not to drive their vehicle until repairs can be performed. Update history: 5/9/2013 4:44 PM (PDT) to clarify the number of units that may be in consumer hands. Rich.
  9. Hi Tom, Not a lot in regards to campgrounds on PEI. When we where there we just found spots we could dry camp. The College of Celtic Music, not the real name and we can not remember it. There are some nice quit shops and displays with a number of quilts for sale if one is interested. The Island is not very big, for us it was the small towns and life stile. Rich.
  10. Forgot to ask. What does the log data from the ECM look like on #6 ? There should be date and time line information regarding the performance of the cylinder. Pressure test, tests the cylinder integrity, not the condition of the valve train. Rich.
  11. Looks like the Coach is at a CAT dealer from the original post. Question, Did the engine start to smoke all of a sudden or just get worse over time. Hard to believe that, if the engine compression test was good; there would be a piston issue or that there is a valve issue. How about the push rods, lifter or Rocker Arm loose, or something else in the valve train on cylinder #6. This could manifest its self as a cylinder issue ! Look at all the small items before pulling the head is my philosophy. Rich.
  12. mrboyer, I looked into the Radio Shack unit. found the Owners manual on line and looked at the information on the receiver and sensors. The part number of ordering extra sensors was not in the information, so I called the home office and they could not find any information on ordering extra sensors. Might check with your local store ! So the question is did you get the remotes at the same time? So I'm left with, are they available or when will they be. Being a brand new item that issue is up in the air for me. The other item not covered. Will it scan all the remotes, one would think so; but no clear yes or no. Are you able to scan you 2 sensors? Item number 6300772 looks good as a single remote monitoring system. One must decide if its operation and the application, if it will do what they want. Rich.
  13. Temperature Minder Station and Remote sender info. Camping World item part numbers are, Station 70707 and the Sender 70708 Rich.
  14. Hi David, Welcome to FMCA ! The Real good thing is you an Rhonda did not get hurt and the coach did not suffer some major damage. Things could have turned nasty real fast. Good to know that you where able to find the information you needed and that Source Eng. was able to keep you moving along. Rich.
  15. Good Morning Howard, Been looking over some wiring information on Spartan Chassis, regarding the ignition switch wiring. Looks like you should see 4 wires at the switch. listed the colors that appear to be used in a number of there ignition wiring at the key switch. Power pin # 1 color Red-- always has power ACC pin # 4 color Pink-- should only have power in ACC position Ignition pin # 5 color Yellow-- Should have power when run, power to engine. Start pin #6 color Pink-- Should have power in the start position only. Also, your coach might have a separate switch to power some of the ACC circuits mounted somewhere. This turns on a relay to power these items with out using to key switch. Hope this helps. Rich.
  16. There have been requests for information on finding Wheels and Rims used on Tow Dolly's and cargo trailers on the thread. I have listed 2 links that supply rims and Tires, plus a number of other parts including Axles, hubs and break parts. You can also find information on how measure the hubs to find the required Rim and Tire needed. http://www.trailerpart.com/ http://www.etrailer.com/ Rich. I will add information as I find other sources.
  17. Hi Tom, Welcome to FMCA. Thanks for your information. That is what make this Forum work! Every entry adds to the data and information base. Rich.
  18. seacurt, Welcome to FMCA. The lenses are one piece, so like DD mentioned you can blow in some compressed air or warm air from a hair drier. Think the head light assemblies on your year and model are the same as those on some model BMW's if you need to replace them in the future. Rich.
  19. Alan, I posted a link to some information on a Harbor Freight battery isolator. The file has information on different Alternator set ups and the wiring one might find regarding the connections. This is for reference, not that the isolator size is correct for your setup, the size (Current wise) of your isolator maybe different. However many isolators are connected or wired very close to what is pictured in the information. Hope this link might help. http://images.harborfreight.com/manuals/93000-93999/93801.pdf Rich.
  20. Hi Howard, Welcome to FMCA! The items you mentioned that stayed power up at times sound like items that would also power up in the ACC position on the ignition key. Could you verify if that is the way it works or not? Rich
  21. Hi Bill, Any chance you could attach a picture of the monitor panel and one picturing the area including the range vent? Can you eyeball the black tank drain line and see where it runs from? Do not think they would have used any more pipe then necessary. Then what panel is close to where the drain exits. Rich.
  22. Minder Research now has a 3 channel temperature minder on the market, Receiver- Mfg Part #: MRI-200HI and the remote sensor / transmitter - Mfg Part #: RS10. That come with three different frequencies. There are other suppliers for the wireless systems, but do not sell the extra or add on transmitters or a scanning receiver that I have found to date. These unit would be very handy for those who are winter campers, that want to monitor there, fresh water, gray and black holding tank temperatures to help prevent them from freezing. Some times all it takes is a medium sized light bulb in the bay area to keep thing just warm enough and also not a bad idea even if one has forced hot air or heating pads under or in the areas to prevent freezing. Its always good to know that things are working, turned on or above freezing. The other application would be to monitor the refrigerator and freezer(s) during the hot weather to keep food from spoiling and you do not have to keep opening and closing doors to know just what the temperatures are with a quick glance. Brett Wolfe did post some information on this issue. Rich.
  23. Bill, I would check for a bad ground circuit, common to all the level sensors. common point for the problem is at a wire nut behind the monitor panel or a grounding screw or wire nut that could be in the area of the sensors. Rich.
  24. Hi Blazeracing, Welcome to FMCA and good morning!! The problem is 99.9% in the module, caused by a cold solder connection or two. The sound you are hearing is likely coming from the Gauges. Bet it's a very soft sound, that the gauge makes as the readings come and go. I'm thinking you also have very good hearing !! ? That being the case, there are a number of us that would be willing to rent out your services. Our DW's often mention; you don't hear the sound coming from wherever. LOL Rich.
  25. Good to hear Jiminy, The resistance you where reading when you checked the fuse the first time was most likely the coil resistance and we have all been fooled by it at some point !! Rich.
