Take a look at the Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee. Both are towable with 4x4 (check the specific requirements). I see a lot of folks who want to tow a P/U tow the Chevy F-150. As mentioned above, check out the FMCA towing guide for a very good overview of the variety of vehicles approved for towing. http://www.fmca.com/images/stories/pdf/towing_2016.pdf

So, after doing a Google search for Centramatic balancers I found that the 800-820 unit was recommended specifically for my Prevost. However, I thought it would make sense to drop a line to Centramatic and ask them what they said I should use so I sent them an e-mail. I got a response right away but here's what it said: Message: I have a 1988 40' Prevost Country Coach with drum brakes all around. I use 12R 22.5 Michelin tires and I want to see what the correct Centramatics would be for my front axle. Thanks. Repsonse: Good day Thank you for your inquiry Need to know Number of studs? Tire size? Steel or aluminum rims? REGARDS, JERRY ROBERTSON DIRECTOR OF TECHNICAL SUPPORT CENTRAMATIC 5345 SOUTH INTERSTATE 35 WEST ALVARADO TEXAS 76009 800-523-8473 jrobertson@centramatic.com Nothing on any website questions the rim type, I had already listed the tire type and someone at Centramatic should already know what number of studs are used by Prevost. I was less than impressed by the response and replied with this: Hummmm. Said they were 12R 22.5 tires. Alum wheels......studs? can't see with the hub caps. I will see if there is someone out there that knows more about your products than you seem to. Thanks! Response: You Do not have to be insulting. I guess it was an insult but how could I respond any other way to someone who had no real interest in finding the correct answer before responding. Putting beads or Equal in my tires is looking better at this moment.

Thanks to everyone. I am still stuck in Dallas at the Prevost service center who just can't seem to get my coach fixed. Now ordering parts from Canada over night (with customs that 2-3 days plus the weekend) in hopes they have found the problem. I will call TCI and let them know that Frank just got his tires and maybe they will have some good news for me. If they can't help I will give LaPorte Tire a call tomorrow. Thanks again.

If you have a smart phone, that's all you need. Verizon has the best coverage Nationwide but they are all about the same E. of the Mississippi. If you don't have a smart phone you can look at some of the services like Trac-Phone that offer a Mi-Fi device with re-loadable data that never expires. Not the cheapest but likely cheaper than having to pay for a data plan year-round.

Yes, XZE is what I am looking for. I have XZE on all 8. Just looking for 2 for now. The tires are only 5 years old but the sidewalls are cracking and I am going to move the front to the tag and put fresh fronts on. I should have said that I had Goodrich years back, not Goodyear (sorry kaypsmith). It was at least 5 years ago so I wonder if that's a new change as the difference was noticeable. Maybe it was the mounting or balancing that was better. Can't say.

Anything New In Internet For RV's?
BillAdams replied to rfsod48's topic in RV Internet to Go/Staying in Touch
If you have a smart phone you just use the existing data plan. When you travel you just increase the amount of data on the plan and then turn it back down to the minimum you need when your 6 months is up. If you don't have a smart phone there are pay-as-you-go plans like Trac-Phone and others. -
I had Goodyears and the Michelins are substantially better so I think I will stick with Michelin. I tried Prevost in Dallas and they can't get them. They told me to call TCI tire and see if they could get them. TCI claims they are on order. As to metric, there is no exact replacement and the one that's the closest is too wide to be installed on the rear duals as they are just that much wider that they would touch. I would need different wheels to allow better separation.

I know that very few of us still need and use this size tire but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about how I might be able to get some in the Houston, TX area. I have been working with TCI here in Houston but they claim they are on national backorder and they are not available anywhere. It has been more than a month and I am still hearing a couple of weeks more. Maybe I should move away from Michelin as my existing 5 year old Michelins sidewalls are cracking badly and they scare the heck out of all the techs at Prevost and other service centers. Just to save a bit of time and effort, please don't tell me I should go metric. I know what my options are and with my old coach the best option remains 12R tires.

Not to mention that CA has (had?) a 70' max length law. RVers have been stopped and ticketed in the past in CA and no one that I am aware of has beaten the ticket in court.

Dometic A/C Heat Pump Compressor Stops
BillAdams replied to kurtsue's topic in Systems and Appliances
Is this a 30 amp coach? Are you turning the front A/C on with the rear A/C turned on or off? What else is turned on? Battery Inverter/charger? Electric water heater? Anything? -
Deleted, made moderator Herman mad.

Sorry to hear about the mechanical problems but welcome to the truck stopper club. It's not my normal over night but, as you have discovered, it's a great option when necessary.

Cellular & Wi-Fi Guidance Please
BillAdams replied to ajshepherd's topic in RV Internet to Go/Staying in Touch
You disagree that satellite internet is not wi-fi or you disagree that wi-fi is not an internet service? Never mind, you are welcome to disagree. This is how I usually get in trouble so I will leave it alone. -
Cellular & Wi-Fi Guidance Please
BillAdams replied to ajshepherd's topic in RV Internet to Go/Staying in Touch
Herman, satellite internet is not Wi-Fi. Satellite internet service is the actual internet service. You use Wi-Fi to repeat existing internet services no matter where the service originated. As an example, when you share the data plan on your phone with your computer this is done by WiFi. If you had cable/DSL based service coming into your house (or an RV Park), it would connect to a router and then be broadcast to all wireless devices in your home/park using WiFi. I apologize in advance if you already knew that but it might be a point of clarification for others visiting this topic. -
Cellular & Wi-Fi Guidance Please
BillAdams replied to ajshepherd's topic in RV Internet to Go/Staying in Touch
If you want a good, workable Wi-Fi booster, please re-read my post. There is a good, inexpensive booster available for less than $100. Even though I have an unlimited Sprint MiFi device, I still connect to campground Wi-Fi when available as the response times (ping times) can be lower creating a faster connection for routine surfing. I always connect to my MiFi for banking and similar online activities that I want to add a layer of security to. I know i ended that sentence with a preposition but I did not feel like going back and making the necessary correction. -

I am not the guy for this. I look to others for similar support. For Wi-Fi I suggest you go to the Tiffin RV Forum and look up the post about cheap wi-fi booster by David Bott. It is on You Tube as well and I suspect if you go there and just search David Bott the instructional video will come up. I used his setup and it is simple to follow as long as you do it step-by-step with the exact hardware he lists. It took me maybe an hour but it make take a novice an hour and a half. It really is very easy. It also works VERY well. I know a lot of folks use a cellular booster but I have never tried one. We have a jetpack (mifi, same thing) using Sprint service and it is likely I could get somewhat faster speeds with a booster but I have no found it to be necessary. If you are going to be far off the grid then it is likely mandatory but if you camp where voice cellular service is available you will likely also have data cellular service. Check the coverage map of your provider (Verizon has the best data coverage) to see what kind of service will be available in the areas that you travel. Good luck and safe travels. -
OK, but that means that a lot of folks who posted have never been there (and they should go!). We drove past this amazing landmark 3 or 4 times saying we "really" need to stop next time. Once we finally forced ourselves to stop (in the middle of nowhere) we were sold! This is truly one of those "must stop" road side attractions offered in this amazing Country of ours.

OMG! I can't believe that no one has mentioned that you will be driving right under The Archway in Kearney, NE. http://archway.org/ If you have not stopped here you MUST stop here. This is one of the best museum / historical / informational sites I have ever visited. Here's a quick description stolen from their website. Start at Ft. Kearny in the 1840s where the Oregon Trail converged with the Mormon Trail and California Trail. Here, you’ll immerse yourself in the sights of the historic trails while listening to the stories of the early pioneers. Next, hear the rumble of the Iron Horse on the transcontinental railroad as it passes overhead. Watch a Pony Express rider make a quick stop to change horses as he races to deliver mail across the country. Listen in as the first transcontinental telegraph transmits the news of the breakout of the Civil War to the West Coast. Finally, traverse the historic Lincoln Highway, catch the newsreel at the drive-in theater and take a break to check on the traffic below in the roadside diner. A perfect stop for a family vacation, this award-winning display can be viewed in under an hour.

Towing Package Design For 2009 Honda Civic
BillAdams replied to sundance44's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
M&G does not make a braking system for the Honda Civic after 2002. I suspect that's because they are not considered to be towable on all 4. -
Black Holding Tank Exploded HELP URGENT
BillAdams replied to shalom's topic in Water and Holding Tanks
Call Monaco or whoever owns Monaco these days. I had to replace my fresh water tank and called Country Coach. They gave me the original manufacturers name (I wish I could remember) and they only needed the 3 dimensions to determine which sized tank I needed. They also needed drain and fill connection locations. They shipped an exact replacement and that was the most expensive part! They were located in OR which makes sense as CC and Monaco are/were there when the coach was manufactured. -
I fear that you are going to find that there is a vast wasteland when it come to local chapters for FMCA members with children on board. Most FMCA members have raised their kids, and sometimes their grand kids, and are pretty much done with having kids running around the campfire. This is likely even more true in FL where retirees rule! I do believe there are some National chapters for RVing families with children on board so don't give up, just do a bit more searching.
