  1. Why do folks make these kinds of posts? ^^^^^^^^^^^ How is this supposed to help the OP?
  2. Velcro should take care of the problem if I understand what dangerous activity you are doing (kidding!). There are per-packaged awning wraps but a bit of Velco one-wrap does the same thing.
  3. Is this a vented or non-vented model? The non-vented models use water to condense water out of the clothes and is a very ineffective way to dry clothes.
  4. I used a REMCO driveshaft disconnect on a full size, extended length, Chevy Van for years. It's an excellent product and the van alone weighed close to 9,000 pounds. I believe it's as good a driveshaft as the original. I also believe the above statement that REMCO no longer produces them is inaccurate or at least misleading. The REMCO disconnects are still in production and can be purchased through a variety of dealers (or direct). REMCO sold the company but the brand and the product remain in production.
  5. I like my tires balanced but that's still not perfect. I just installed Centramatics on my drive tires and the new tires were not balanced by the dealer. Smooth running and nothing to clog my valve stems.
  6. One post does not match the other. The OP said that Tiffin is not taking ANY coaches for service any more. The other quote says they are not taking any non-warranty work. That's a very big difference.
  7. How does someone with a 10' (10 foot, did you mean '10....2010?) AMC 45' (45 foot) RV post information about what Tiffin is or is not doing? Did you get sent down the road when you brought your AMC into Red Bay for service or are you passing along unsubstantiated rumors?
  8. I had a leak in my fresh water tank and had the floor rot out. Finding the replacement fresh water tank (split wide open at the top) was difficult but once it was located I had to remove everything in the wet bay, remove the wooden floor (2 part) install new 3/4" marine plywood and reapply laminate in the exposed areas. My setup was fresh tank on the floor, a layer of wood on top and the black and grey tanks side by side on top of the fresh tank. Once you took care of getting wires disconnected and marked, tanks emptied, plumbing disconnected, the tanks came out pretty easily. The new floor went in and the re-assembly process began. It took a couple of days and some awkward positions but it was pretty clear what needed to be done as I removed a couple of walls to explore.
  9. Rescue tape is great stuff "as long as" you are doing a repair where the tape can be wrapped around itself such as repairing a leaking hose. If you have to hold something in place by running some tape from one side to another (flush) then rescue tape will not work.
  10. The closest that I am aware of would be Elkhart Satellite in Elkhart, IN.
  11. The "pick your own" is called the Flex Pak and it's just a marketing scam. You can't pick your own channels, you start with the 60 they choose and then you can add various groups of channels. To get the channels you want you still have to take stuff you don't.
  12. You absolutely CAN use a Hopper (not a Hopper 3) with your Trav'ler. That gives you 3 tuners which is generally enough but you can also add a Super Joey if you would like to add 2 more tuners plus have the ability to watch to different channels on 2 different TV's. That can also be done with a regular Joey but you don't get the added tuners. You will also need to add some switches (1 solo node at a minimum) but this is also easy if you (or the person you hire) knows how to follow instructions. If you are anywhere near Houston, TX you can setup an appointment with Dave at Sats 2 Go www.sats2go.com and he will get you all the equipment and set it all up as well. There are also a number of mobile RV satellite dealers around the US. Check with the larger local campgrounds and see if they have a recommendation for an installer. This used to by my business so I might be able to direct you to someone I know if you let us know where you are currently located or plan to travel. You can't change the Dish Trav'ler over to work with DirecTV, but you can buy a DirecTV Trav'ler, replace the Dish Trav'ler (about a 30 minute job with minimal tools and no new roof openings required), pack up the Dish Trav'ler and sell it. This is only if you happen to prefer DirecTV. However, if you are not familiar with either, DirecTV is very much like Dish in that you have to buy packages that contain a large number of channels you will never watch!
  13. Yep, 12V house batteries, separate 12V generator battery and 24V engine starting batteries. 2 separate alternators to charge the house and engine batteries while driving but only the house batteries are charged when parked. I have a separate portable 24V charger to top off the engine batteries if I will be parked somewhere for more than a couple of weeks.
  14. Sorry for the delay, the forum had some of us locked out for a few days!!!! You can use your home DirecTV HD box in your RV with your Winegard dome. You will not get any of the HD programming but you will get the same channels in SD. You do have to change some settings in the receiver "repeat satellite setup" to ensure it is set to 18" round antenna type and multiswich (not SWM). You will then also need to go into the display option in the standard menu and change the setting so it will display the SD channels. Only takes a few minutes when you change from home to RV and then you need to change it all back when you return home.
  15. They "should be"! This is done using the engine alternator. You should have a battery isolator in the loop somewhere that will send voltage to the batteries while driving and from the inverter/charger while parked. It's easy to check. With the engine off, check the battery voltage. It should be in the 12.5V (ish) range. Now, start your engine and check the battery voltage again. It should now be in the 13+V range. If so, the engine is charging your batteries.
  16. Funny, that's what I was told when I was a child as well. "Don't worry, buy the year 2000 we will all be in flying cars!" Strangely enough, that didn't happen either!
  17. We can also only pump so much oil. The supply is finite and will run out. Not soon, but it will run out. Your grand kids or maybe their grand kids are going to have to learn to live without oil. Something must be done. Just because corn might not be the answer does not mean that a replacement fuel, BIO or otherwise, needs to be pursued.
  18. You might be confused about who does what. Dish did not, and never has, built or approved an antenna for use with an RV (other than the King Dome Tailgater for a brief period). Dish Network sells satellite TV service for use with an open faced, Dish approved, satellite TV antenna with multiple LNB's. When Winegard or King Dome or KVH builts an antenna for an RV they are doing this completely on there own and the operation of this antenna has nothing what-so-ever to do with what Dish does or does not do. If Dish, DirecTV, Bell Express Vu or Shaw makes changes to there services they do not consult with (or care about) the RV industry. They make the changes they need to make based upon a large customer base and evolving technology. When a product built by a company unrelated to Dish or any of the other services become obsolete it's a shame but it is not the fault of Dish or any other satellite TV providers. It's just something that happens and those building antennas have to adjust to the changes the satellite TV providers make. There is exactly zero reason for any satellite TV provider to think that should run their business based upon something the RV industry is or is not doing.
  19. The only first hand knowledge I have is when Janet and I were doing work for Willie Nelson. He converted is Prevost to 100% bio-diesel but had to replace every fuel line and, for an extended period of time, had to change the fuel filters regularly as this blend "cleaned" the tanks and clogged the filters. Once it was all cleaned out he had no problems and standing beside his coach while the generator was running just made you hungry as it smelled like someone cooking French Fries....I am not kidding....It's really just corn oil and it smelled yummy!
  20. I just did my class B license add-on about a year and 1/2 ago. I did not have to parallel park and I only have to drive the RV in reverse in a straight line for 40 feet. The written test was simply stupid as it asked questions like how high above the ground tail lights much be located and how many lights must be used on a farm tractor traveling on the highway. It was the 18 wheeler test book but I was only required to learn the last 10 pages or so. None of it had anything at all to do with driving an RV and none of it would help a driver drive an RV. Maybe my test was so basic due to the fact that we were in the tiny town of Bryan, TX but the "W"itch doing the test had gotten into a phone call screaming match on the way to getting in our RV. I figured I was a dead man no matter what I did!
  21. I suspect that I should already know this information based upon something that I missed, but what kind of motorhome?
  22. The RT8000 T is the in-motion version of the Mini-Max antenna. The same antenna as the Carryout, only roof mounted and, of course, capable of in-motion reception. It does date back to around 2010 or earlier, I believe and has been replaced by the G2 and G2+ which can be setup at portable or roof mounted. It is quite possible that the changes made by Dish in 2015 is what is causing the problem but, as mentioned above, a call to Winegard could confirm this. There is not an upgrade available that will fix the problems created by Dish so if that's the problem and you can get a deal on a replacement, that would be the thing to do. Let us know what Winegard says. By the way, I have seen some reports that folks have power cycled the antenna multiple times and gotten lucky with the antenna locking on. Be certain that you have the correct SW64 check switch showing in the receiver setup menus as well.
  23. Is this post just an advertisement for a paid business offering for an on-line, non-certified, non-anything, reading course? " After successful completion of this course the student will effectively be able to.......does that mean #1 or #2. Overall it sounds like #2 to me (pun intended). in such a manner as to achieve a desired result. "make sure that resources are used effectively" 2. actually but not officially or explicitly. "they were effectively controlled by the people they were supposed to be investigating"
  24. I know you know your coach better than anyone, but are you sure you don't have an RV fridge that uses propane or a propane furnace? If not, your coach would be like mine, but that's pretty rare. Now, to get back on topic.......It does sound more like a thermo-coupler to me than anything related to being dirty based upon your description of the flame. That assumes the flame is also the size you would expect it to be. You can remove the top of the stove and look at all the wiring without any tools (most cases anyway). You should see a probe in the center of the flame when you attempt to start the burner. If it is out of place (or missing....has it ever worked?) then you have likely found the issue. If you do see a thermo-coupler at both burners you should be able to trace the wiring and swap them. Now if the non-working unit works you have also found your problem and a new coupler will get you back in business. There is another possibility and that is that it is getting too much air and blowing itself out. There is usually an aluminum collar with a screw and an adjustable opening. It's worth a try if yours is setup that way.
  25. It's quite likely that CW re-wired their cable connection for the reception of satellite TV ONLY. In my opinion that's a mistake on CW's part but if the owners did not make it clear that they wanted to be able to use their exterior connection for both cable and satellite then CW "may" have done what they were asked to do. It's a pretty easy fix involving a bit of cabling and an A/B switch but you (they) need to find someone familiar with this kind of wiring. Most any RV show would have satellite TV specialists and some RV dealers (including CW) would be able to set up this option if they are properly trained. I did this for about 12 years so it's a no-brainer to me but a complete mystery to many.
