  1. You absolutely can! I used to use nothing else until we discover Sam's Club tissue and it is just as comfy and effective and much cheaper.
  2. If you can hear the buzzer, can't you reach it? If you can, just cut the wire (easily repaired) until the problem is resolved.
  3. If you were not happy with the response offered by FMCA (you paid, what, $40?) I am terribly sorry. What did the RV manfuactuer/dealer that you paid $300,000 dollars to do to assist?
  4. TILLDEE, you are getting a reply that does not address your question. Everyone has to call DirecTV or Dish if you move too far from home so you will be able to receive the Network programming in the area where you are parked. You can never get your home Networks when you are too far from home so if you don't call you will not get any Network programming at all. As far as getting this accomplished, Dish is much easier to work with than DirecTV but both will allow you to do so. It has nothing at all to do with changing the zip code in your receiver. All that does is change the information the receiver puts out showing the proper Azimuth, Elevation and Skew for pointing a manual satellite antenna. If you want to watch Network programming in the town where you are currently located you must call (or even better begin a chat session) and let them know that you need to change your SERVICE ADDRESS.....not your billing address....and give them an exact address including zip code. If it is an RV park then I suggest that you add your site number as there are going to be multiple accounts registered at that address. You might stumble a bit on your first attempt but once you get used to saying the right thing it's pretty easy to change as often as you like. Now, with that said, I would not call if I am only going to be at a location for a day or three and would use my OTA TV antenna for the Networks. All other channels are available anywhere you travel without restriction so no call to anyone is necessary if you want to watch ESPN, Food Network or the Cartoon Channel everywhere you park. This call only applies to ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX. For DirecTV it is also CW and PBS but I am not sure about Dish. Assuming you mean you think you are already a Dish customer I will not discuss the other option of DNS Networks as they are not available from Dish, only DirecTV.
  5. SMI would have nothing at all to with the steering wiring harness. Have the harness installed and you are all done. If they are not happy, disconnect the SMI wire. If the Jeep harness is going to provide power to the battery while towing I don't believe you need the SMI charging wire anyway.
  6. It is an Anser so you are doing OK there. Great antenna, by the way..... What do you see on the front of the little black box? Describe anything you see. Since this appears to be a used RV, even if the dome works, the previous owner might have been a Dish customer and not DirecTV. This can be fixed but we need to know what, exactly, you have.
  7. We have one and it died. We took it down, opened the cover and found a burnt wire in the harness on the inside behind the push button controls. If you are not terribly handy, you should still be able to get the unit out. Look for screws underneath (and above if there's a cabinet above) to release the unit and then take it to a local service center. It could take a week or 2 for them to fix the unit so be sure you have enough time. Of course, before you do anything else, check the plug that the unit is plugged into (sorry if that sounds so obvious). Plug a lamp into the same plug (or a hair dryer or something) and make sure it works. Then plug the unit in again to ensure that the plug didn't simply wiggle loose. If all of that makes it appear that the oven is truly dead you can proceed from there.
  8. If you started the coach from the engine compartment and not the key, the coach will not move (at least mine won't). You need to get the engine to turn over using the key and if it will not, any you have good battery voltage, there is likely a starter solenoid in the mix somewhere that either needs replacement or could be jumped. As to the rest.......good luck!
  9. I have a surge guard as well so once I plug into a campground it is going to take 2 minutes and 16 seconds before it switches to shore power. Just before I am ready to plug in to shore power I shut down the A/C units. After a short time I will shut down the generator which may or may not be before the shore power kicks in. Since all the major loads are already off I will be able to shut down the generator safely. Once the generator is shut down I turn things on as described by Brett above. Going from shore power to generator is exactly the same. I don't like to see the generator get hit with a huge load as soon as it becomes active so major loads like the A/C's are off until the generator has been running and providing 120V power for 20-30 seconds. Then, just as with shore power, turn on 1 A/C, wait, turn on 2nd A/C.
  10. My replacement has been white for years as the top half is in a sweeping strip of one color and the bottom 2/3 is another color. I used to hate it. Today I don't even notice.
  11. King Dome did make a manually adjustable dome but all other domes are fully automatic. Can you get on the roof to see what you have up there? I assume you mean the color black matches the vent covers and not the shape of the dome. When you say one looks like it has something to do with a satellite, what do you mean? Does it say King Dome or anything else on the face? Does it look anything like this? http://kingconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/9630-9630-LP-Rev-N-01-18-07.pdf
  12. It's all about amp hours (AH). Add up the total number of amp hours that your 4 - 6V batteries contain and then divide by 2. Then add up the amp hours that the 3 12V batteries and you have know if you will have more or less total amp hours available for use. Your existing inverter/charge should handle the charging requirements of either set of batteries. Let us know what you find and what you do.
  13. What you are referring to is having to call DirecTV (or Dish) to receive the Network programming. That's the big 4...ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox....plus a few others sometimes. As long as you stay within a few hundred miles of home (an estimate) you likely will not have to call to receive this channels but if you travel much farther you have 2 choices. You can use your OTA TV antenna to receive the Networks (what I do when I am only staying in one location for a day or 4) or you have to call DirecTV, give them your current address and have them changing your "SERVICE ADDRESS" (never change your billing address). In a few minutes you will be watching the Networks closest to your location. ALL OTHER CHANNELS are available everywhere you travel and no service call is required. Let me know if that's not clear or if you need additional information.
  14. The TracStar 360 used only a coax cable and nothing else to control the antenna. I have not played with the T4 but I believe Winegard now uses a power inserter in the coax of that unit as well so that the only connection needed to the roof would be the same coax used by your TracStar. If I am correct then this would be an incredibly simple swap.
  15. You don't sound very happy about the whole thing. Happy wife, happy life only goes so far if you are not having fun.
  16. To properly weigh the coaches the ground where the scales are placed must be more firm than grass or gravel and as level as possible. The weighing services take a great deal of time to scout out a good location with the proper requirements to allow for this and to allow the RV's to get in an out. Going to a campsite would not be practical.
  17. Thanks for the post. Always interesting to see how the various RV services work. Did you say you had to leave your motorhome with Country Coach for 2 months? Can't imagine how anyone would be happy with anything after that!
  18. There is no reason to believe that you will not be able to find a TV that will fit in that space AND have front speakers. You just need to carefully measure the width as you will have a gap at the top or bottom (perfect place for a sound bar!). With that you will be able to use a wall mount to install the TV in that space but you will need to add some minor bracing inside the cabinet to hold the wall mount. That's what I did when I first replaced by 20" CRT. With time we wanted more (more, more more!) and we found a TV that would still mount to the back bracing but would now be flush mounted covering the hole and some wood on either side and now there is space above the TV on the cabinetry for the sound bar. We now have a 32" TV with sound bar and that's every bit of space available without the TV extending into head banger locations or block other cabinetry. Happy campers until we need more, more more!
  19. I had the tire pricing in advance and I paid no one directly or in advance. I was invoiced by Michelin AFTER the installation including the dealers installation costs. One invoice for everything. I will definitely be pricing BF Goodrich before replacing the drive tires.
  20. Yes, don't buy that TV. There are also TV's that have front speakers. However, not all TV speakers are created equal and you should visit a number of different stores and turn the volume up! It's amazing how much difference there is between different models. In the past I had hardwired my TV to my surround sound (may not be possible in all RV setups) but I recently installed a sound bar and I sure wish I had done this years ago. The sound is great, loader, clearer and easier to adjust than anything we have ever done in the past. We bought it at Sam's Club for a bit over $100 (2.1 channel, just a sound bar + subwoofer, not 5.1 or what ever's current). You just have to ensure that the TV you buy has an digital audio output and it will be compatible with most any sound bar.
  21. Since you are now not turned off to the possibility of a free e-mail address I will expound a bit. I have multiple G-Mail addresses. Some I have not looked at in over 10 years as they are just addresses I use when a site requires me to enter an e-mail address. All the SPAM responses just go to that address and that's where they live. I also have a couple of G-mail addresses that I use for regular stuff (I likely really only need 1 but I'm just saying.....) and I use Outlook to download these incoming e-mails to my computer so I can read them as they come in. None of these e-mail addresses are used for anything which requires personal information but is great for forums and similar activities. I then have 1 Gmail address that I use for all of my banking and bill paying services. This is also downloaded directly to my computer using Outlook and if I ever see ANYTHING not related to banking or bill pay I dump that e-mail and start another. The good news is that this has not happened with my current Gmail address in the last 5 years (at least). It's really quite amazing how using disposable e-mail addresses during surfing can keep you isolated from nearly all of the "stuff" the internet tries to throw at you. Just one other point. Gmail has some extremely good SPAM filters so even some of the addresses I post on the 'net do get SPAMMED but I never see them as they are filtered out before anything is downloaded to my computer. If you want to add an additional layer of protection, you don't have to download anything and you can do access all (or any part) of your e-mail online preventing any access to your computer.
  22. Be sure to compare pricing of Michelin vs. a competitor (BF Goodrich is the same Michelin tire with a different brand name). I just paid $775/tire installed for my Michelin 12R 22.5. Way more than I had expected.
  23. So, the final invoice from Michelin was $3100 for 4 tires! The invoice shows that is a savings of $652. That still comes out to $775 per tire. I sure hope my drive tires hang in there for awhile. Not sure when I will be ready to spend another $3100 to replace them.
  24. I love the billboard that a company bought here in Houston. It says " we fix the lowest bidders problems". Sound familiar?
  25. Raise taxes now while prices are low? You do know that prices are going back up again as soon a the Saudi's stop pumping and pumping and pumping (killing the US oil business) right? When that happens with your new .50 tax you will be looking at $5.50/gallon. "Those who fail from history are doomed to repeat it!" These low prices are going to be short lived and most States send these taxes to the general fund instead of the highway fund they were intended for so a new tax would not necessarily mean that money would go toward or roads and bridges.
