What made me look into it was the signage at the entrance "All vehicles over 10,000 lbs are required to stop). What I saw "all vehicles" I thought hmmm....that's us. Aha keep going if they want me they know where to find me. Then I thought about it, I have a Class A CDL, I cant play dumb maybe I should have stopped. That was several trips ago past the same station. Still considering stopping by and asking if they would do me a favor and weigh our coach, as when I pass by we are usually as full as ever. We are all legal, toad has brakes and emergency breakaway and I would have done a pretrip less than an hour ago at home, so I know it all works, nothing to worry about here.

Keon, according to the MD website any vehicle over 10,000lbs is required to stop at the check point before the bridge, not just commercial. I never have although, I did think about it once to see if they could weigh my coaches 4 corners....but I figured that wouldn't end well so I kept driving past . In VA along RT13 I have seen many travel trailers (with both hitches...King Pin and Ball) stopped by DOT. They target the trucks that appear commercial (name on the door, ladder rack....etc.....). Not sure if you are aware but that can get sticky, especially if its registered to a business then you'd better have a medical card, no alcohol, etc....etc....I have driven past in the coach and they don't even look my way. Off road fuel is available up here but you would have to be crazy to put it in, the tax savings isn't worth the risk! The place I buy fuel has it and its usually only 15 cents a gallon cheaper. My coach before and now has a clear bowl for the primary fuel filter, you wouldn't have to dip my tank to check, just look at the filter, it would be very obvious if in my tank. I had a customer once that got nailed for it because of a slight trace of it. The fine was $100.00 per gallon in the truck. They came to his shop and tested his storage tank and the fleet . The tank he bought from a farmer and it too had a trace of off road fuel (hard to get rid of the trace) and they were going to fine him for that as well. He convinced them he bought the tank that way (he had a receipt for the tank) they drove to the farm where the tank was purchased and they made the farmer sign a document stating that it was in fact his tank and it was used for off road farm equipment before and that is why the trace. In my coach that would be a $13,000 fine NO THANKS.

Did your Roadtrek have a transmission temperature gauge? Sounds like towing the boat overheated the transmission and it pushed fluid out of the front seal onto the exhaust. Most V8's have the exhaust routed under the transmission at the bell housing area.

I figured I would awake this Lifestyle section. Its been quiet for too long. Sandusky, Ohio https://www.cedarpoint.com/places-to-stay/lighthouse-point Richmond, VA https://www.kingsdominion.com/places-to-stay/campsites Hershey, PA http://www.hersheyparkcampingresort.com/ Lancaster, PA http://www.oldmillstreamcampground.com/ Kissimmee, FL https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/resorts/campsites-at-fort-wilderness-resort/?CMP=OKC-wdw_gmap_14 Elysburg, PA. This campground is rough. Only 30 amp no water no sewer and the sites are anything but level. The park is like walking back in time and is a nice place to visit. http://www.knoebels.com/stay/stay-at-knoebels With that being the case for above, I recommend staying here, 1 mile down the road; http://www.jdcampground.com/ Any others in the USA, please post them! Its the time of year for families to begin planning the 2017 camping season, maybe this will present some ideas. If you have any other great family RV idea, please start a new topic and lets get the information out there.

If that were a crab fest and it were earlier in the season, we would be there.

We stayed at Grey's point before, nice place but a bit far off the beaten path. I had a low power problem while we were there in 2013, CG couldn't handle the load on a holiday weekend, they were unable to fix it while we were there, not sure if its still an issue or not. I would think November should not have such a load on the CG.

Falcon, I'm certain I know how you overcame that mess, hats off to you!! What did it do to your MPG, I.e. How much better was it after?
-
Obedb, if I were going to change it out to something simple, the mechanical switch would be my first choice.

Puff, glad to hear you got a away before the snow. Where are you staying in Ft Myers? I have reservations for Red Coconut RV park in the summer. I am a bit concerned that I won't be able to get into our site (C5). -
Obedb, my friends last Class C was an 2009 and he had the same set up as your last coach. Both coaches we have owned had transfer switches. Sometimes simple is better. I could see people increasing the chance of electrocution, plugging into the tower and realizing it wasn't connected in the electrical bay.

Snap a picture and attach it. here is a link where a similar situation to yours came up. Also, no problem if you have any questions just ask.

RedandSilver, Welcome to the FMCA forum! Good point about Wally docking.

Those I looked through when I bought the coach, the main manual was not in the box. Are you kidding, I'd be surprised if I retain 25% of what I read

Yea, and I read all 344 pages

If you want one with gadgets, this model has an optional remote screen and full surge protection built in. I like the idea of the remote screen so you can see what's going on but would rather keep it separate from the surge protection, just in case its less to replace. http://www.trci.net/products/surge-guard-rv/transfer-switches/50a-plus-hardwire-rvc-ats Looks like pricing is as follows; TRC Model 40100. The basic ATS switch is around $130 TRC model 41260. up graded ATS with surge and open neutral, miss wired pedestal $260 TRC model 40350RVC. Top of the line, all surge and ATS remote screen for inside $700

Tarheels293, I have the same one in my coach, there was a recall on them for fire problems but I believe it was for units around the 2007-2008 year, I believe it was a wiring connection problem, not so much a component problem. I have had some quirky issues with ours at the end of last year. I was told by REV to use this one (link below), they have had good luck with it. Since CW sells these I would lean on your selling dealer to send one no charge and install it yourself. Being you were a car mechanic for 40 years this should be a snap. If you are not comfortable take it somewhere and have it done. If you choose to tackle it just make sure the coach is unplugged from shore power and you genset is disabled just in case it has an auto start. http://www.trci.net/products/surge-guard-rv/transfer-switches/50a-hardwires-41260

Just learned something (actually a few things, stems from reading the owners manual ) about Aqua Hot. There are two switches on my dash that had me puzzled, one I figured out already. I just couldn't understand why two switches that basically do the same thing. Here they are; ENG HEAT; This activates a 4th zone pump on the Aqua hot that will circulate the engine coolant through the engine and back to keep it warm. ENG PRE HEAT; this one I was aware of, it turns on an outlet in the engine bay where the block heater plugs in.

Rich, I am going to remove them from the coach, clean, weld and paint them. They could use a little TLC . Surprisingly my owners manual has a section on welding, what to unplug and where its located. That was impressive, wasn't expecting to see that.
