  1. Ken, I tow a 2003 Wrangler Sport with a 3.5" lift and 35" tires. No issues with tire wear or tracking. As long as the steering column was unlocked and the tow bar is level you should be fine. I did see a person one time towing a Ford Ranger that forgot to unlock the steering column, chewed the front tires off and damaged the steering linkage in a 40 mile trip.
  2. Bill, not sure if we could handle those temps, lol. after all its a whopping 7 degrees this morning.
  3. Carl, I got the same message. I also agree with you, I love reading Toms blogs and comments for that matter. i don't usually comment on them, just enjoy the story.
  4. Judgebobk, good to know, we have often thought of stopping at one for a wash, now I will pass by
  5. Windsore, welcome to the FMCA forum! Sorry to hear of your problem. check the electrical connection to the left of the fuel pump. I replaced my pump last year and I remember having difficulty locking the connection, it is a round metal connector that is a twist lock and you have to disconnect it to access the pump. Depending on your floor access it should be a simple check, also poke around back there and make sure they didn't damage any wiring. I am assuming your coach is Cummins powered.
  6. Just bought one for our coach on eBay. Cummins part number I obtained from Cummins/onan. I found it on line but the shipping was more than the belt, my local dealer didn't have it in stock and again the shipping was expensive. We have a 2001 7500 Onan and the part number is 511-0235. I picked it up for $14.00. I tried the local Napa to cross the Cummins number but they couldn't. Generator model: HDKAH series D. If you go to the onan website you can decode your generator and call them for a parts breakdown. I have no idea how old our belt is, I figured when I service it in a few weeks I am just going to replace it. Seems like good insurance for $14.00, no shipping from eBay
  7. We still have power! Not sure how the wind is 40-60 mph, the snow is up to the door handles on my wife's 2012 Ford Explorer, none on the roof of the cars due to the high winds. Great day to stay inside and....oh look it's 5:00 here. If you are up in the NE be careful.Local weather is saying we could end up with 30-40" of snow. Herman, Carl, Brett, any room in Texas for another DP? Lol
  8. Same here, and I clean off the splattered mess all around the drive shaft from fresh lube purging from the caps.
  9. Carl, love corn bread, my oldest daughter as well, she also makes it. Funny you mentioned it, my grandfather's family were Quakers/Masons....even funnier Herman's profile picture, he looks just like my grandfather, especially with the hat. Herman I have been waiting for the moment to mention it. He also was into RV'ing, pretty sure that where I go it from. He was also a retired trucker, probably how I landed into this business as well. OBEDB is frozen! Same here he lives 50 miles west of me straight up RT30. The temp this morning was 16 degrees, 12-18" of snow headed this way around 6pm tonight.
  10. Carl, will do or, July 22nd we check into a new campground in Rehoboth DE for the weekend, if your in the area stop over and take a look around the campground. From the plans (under construction now) it looks like a winner! The last CG these people bought in Ocean City MD is one of my favorites. www.Masseyslanding.com
  11. Yes they are, I have a switch on the dash labeled "Eng Pre Heat" that powers up an outlet in the engine bay that the block heater is plugged into. My friends Tiffin has a plug in a side compartment for the block heater hanging by an outlet. Its unknown if he has a switch some where to power up the outlet or if its live all the time. Although it has a tag on the wire advising not to leave it plugged in all the time. I have to test the outlet when the weather breaks to see if it's switched somewhere.
  12. Both trips out west we didn't tow, at the time our class C wouldn't have been able to make the journey with the jeep behind us (heavier than the tow rating on the coach). But with the class C I could go more places than I can with the DP so it wasn't too bad. We planned on renting a car if needed but in the end it was ok and never had to. I couldn't imagine not having the jeep now. On occasion if we are camping at a place we have no intention of leaving the campground (weekend trips) I will leave the toad at home, isn't often anymore.
  13. Carl, I have a recipe from Texas, no beans in this house! I won 2nd place last year in a contest with it. I manage quite well with BBQ and Chili (smoker at the house). I was trying to go to Springfield in August, but that doesn't look good, I have a birthday party camping trip that just came up that weekend in the mountains of PA for my friend that just bought his first DP (on another post). I am thinking trying for 2017 and just use vacation time, the DW was concerned the teenagers would be board so I have to do some homework on what's going on for them or if its at a place for them to day trip out with the Jeep and leave me behind at the rally it would be a big help. We need to get together and photo both Jeeps together since they look so much alike. The only Blizzard I like is the one from DQ also, not looking forward to this.
  14. Carl, thanks for the advice. I could probably get away with an older Prevost since they do not have slides and she hates slides. I wont see them until March (custom built), good thing....I have been changing out my dash panel from the dull gray factory to wood grained to match the rest of the controls I replaced earlier in the year. I am trying to figure out if I want to mount my "Scan Gauge" in the dash like it came that way from HR or just locate a simple home for it without going crazy. Plus, we are expecting 16"-24" snow storm with Blizzard conditions Friday into early Sunday so I am making sure the house generator is ready for the event and my snow blower is tuned up and the usual, wine, cheese stocked up etc... Think I am going to make some homemade Chili for the weekend and just relax. I have to ask Puff what software he uses to compress photos, seems like my cell phone photos are much to clear to post on here. My old phone worked fine the new I-phone the pixels are too high.
  15. Trynforpar, we ran this trip two times. Starting in PA I went out I-76 west to I-70 west to St Louis (watch the signs for I-44 its easily missed, I missed it and the DW still reminds me often) I-44 south to I-40 west. I-40 we love the scenery and stops along the way. Grand Canyon railway campground in Williams AZ is great. I recommend taking the steam engine up to the Grand Canyon from the campground. Williams AZ is a neat town to walk around. Route 66 parallels I-40, we jumped on and off I-40 and strolled through some of the small towns and took in all of the old traveling history. I love Route 66 history so that was a highlight for me. We ate at the "Big Texan steak ranch" in Amarillo TX, stayed at the campground close by and the Big Texan picked us up in a 1970's Caddy limo, that was neat. We also stopped at a gas station from the Disney movie 'Cars" took a picture of the Motorhome at the old glass top gas pumps in Shamrock TX. Good place to eat if you like classic cars is Russell's Truck Stop and Museum in Endee New Mexico, decent food neat place to walk around. Just off I-40 at RT392.
  16. I went round and round with this thought when we bought this coach in 2014. I looked all over the unit for a place to hide a wheel and tire assembly and finally came to the reality I was going to sign up for roadside assistance. I have all of the tools on board, jack and calibrated torque wrench but somewhere in the last year and a half I lost the ambition to change a flat tire.
  17. Carl, a 1984 Prevost is within my budget, she didn't mention what year it had to be.
  18. Bob, what engine do you have in your coach? New technology engine block heaters are thermostatically controlled on some engines, with most manufactures it’s an option. I wonder if you are equipped that way? Have you used it before? I have noticed in most cases they are unplugged back in the engine area even though there is a switch inside to turn them on and off. I had a sales person tell me its always better to keep in unplugged until you need it.
  19. Serviced my friends Tiffin yesterday. Brett, the thermostat looked like new, I was pleasantly surprised given the PH levels. I replaced the thermostat and all antifreeze, changed the chassis oil and filter and replaced both fuel filters. I will say that coach was not built for engine bay access. It was tight and the rear doors are much too small. I guess I am spoiled with the Monaco design I have. The fuel filters were in a bad spot and difficult to remove once unscrewed, even harder to reinstall with the hydraulic hoses pressing up against the fuel separator. The fuel filters were so old they were rusty and the paint on the separator was falling off in my hands. I was surprised it ran so well. To my surprise his ISL did not have a coolant filter, even though his engine serial number calls for it the manifold was not there. Another odd thing the valve cover is black along with the entire engine and all of the engine paint is peeling, all of the other Cummins engines I saw in those years had a red valve cover, later years the entire engine was all red. On to the generator next, air dryer, axle and transmission in the weeks to come, weather permitting. It's back home in his driveway sitting until the next decent weather weekend.
  20. I want to, told the DW I was going, just got a strange look. Might be going by myself....more to come on this. I won the battle (or at least I think so) doubtful I will win the war, lol.
  21. Wow. 6% here when you purchase it. $180.00 per year for registration renewal plus Annual State Inspection $85.00. PA
  22. Carl, the last time I was done with the upgrades and 6 months from owning it I traded it in for this beast. Every time I turn around "Prevost" comes from her mouth lately. I guess it's ok she wants a different coach in the future....as long as I am not getting traded in its all good....... right? I would love to post photos, cannot ever seem to compress them enough for the requirements on this site.
  23. Carl, funny you mentioned PPL. I compare their prices to CW and they almost always are the same or very close. I choose PPL even if a slight bit higher. The service from PPL has been great in relation to their parts staff (cant speak for any other part of the co) and service like that isn't free, neither is knowledge.
