  1. Has or is anyone having suspension issues regarding severe RV leaning issues due to Ford F53 leaf springs and stabilizer units? I have a 2017 Holiday Rambler Vacationer (36H) that had to be towed by Ford Roadside Assistance on June 14th and Ford has or will not resolve RV warranty repairs as of today (Day 59)! Stuck in Mississippi and desperate for information or help . . . dfrederick8330@gmail.com
  2. We have a 1997 Fleetwood Discovery. We have replaced the chassis batteries and now our Jacks will not work. The panel will not turn on.

    Class A tires

Hey Guys or Gals, I am looking to get new tires i have 245/70/19.5 size any suggestions? As far as wear and ride?
  4. Here's our new (to us) 2015 Tiffin Allegro Open Road 36LA. We're planning full retirement next spring and expect to be on the road a lot and I believe this wonderful contraption will make the adventure an incredible experience. We'll winter in our place in southwestern Georgia with shorter trips down into Florida and spend the rest of the year workamping and exploring the cooler climes of the north. We're registered for the Perry, Georgia gathering in March. Hope to see some of you there!
  5. Hi all, We are new to rv'ing in a big rig - we have a Thor Hurricane Class A motorhome, 31.5 feet long, (gas powered), picture attached! We tow our Buick Enclave. This fall, we are heading to Glacier National Park, and we're looking for any tips regarding roads to travel, or not! We are coming from Wisconsin via Sioux Falls, SD, and will camp at St. Mary on the east of the park. We know we can't make it up too many steep mountain roads, so are looking for recommendations as to the best route. Right now we plan to take Interstate 90 much of the way. We are also planning to leave our RV parked at camp and drive up into Canada to see Waterton and Banff. Anyone done this and have some ideas/recommendations for us? Glad to be a part of the forum and hoping to learn lots!
  6. Hi, I definitely have a dilemma. I am trying to find out what the Gross Combination Weight Rating is for a class A Triton V10 motor 24K chassis weight. Yes I know what the GVWR's are and I know what or where to find the tow ratings. However, the newer coaches no longer have a GCVWR on the stickers that show the GVWR and empty weights and all the other weights for that coach. We flat tow and yes, I know that the Triton V10 with the 24K chassis will tow our 3300 lb Malibu, but what exactly is the manufacturer's combination weight ratings on those type coaches. Why are they no longer listed on the sticker weight ratings? And if you want a real chuckle for the day, ask that question to a salesperson!!! The answers you get from the sales staff or a manufacturers representative is to say the least....amazingly comical! I even went to an Ohio State Police Post and asked them where to find the GCVWR and their answer was, "don't worry about it, we won't pull you over and weigh you"! Well, needless to say, that didn't help much. I am debating the age old question of gas verses diesel and since we are not full timers, gas makes the budget look a whole lot better. However, I do not want to be replacing brakes in the RV or putting undo strain on the drive train in the mountains. At this point, all I want is a real answer. How do I find or calculate the GROSS COMBINATION VEHICLE WEIGHT RATING for a class A gas motor home when that information is not on the information sticker in an individual coach? I do not feel comfortable towing any vehicle behind a unit without that information. By the way, yes, we do have an SMI auxilliary braking system for our vehicle. Does anyone have a straight answer?
  7. Hello My husband Bill and I have been RVing since we since we had a VW split window camper van. We lived in it while we were getting our home. We lived in a 24 foot camper after we lost our home in a fire, we also had a class C. Just one year ago we bought a Class A Motorhome a 1994 Gulf Stream Sun Voyager 102. Even though it was old, it only had 28,000 miles on it and 40 hours on the generator. After I had a life saving surgery we decided we wanted to travel the county life is too short. We did some up grades to the coach... new memory foam mattress, put in LED lights, new tires, and Bill redid the rubber roof. We had wanted to sell our home but we ran out of time, but we decided to leave frozen NH for the warmth of Florida for the winter. We have been on the road for 3 months and we love it. We have four rescue dogs.. all are older.. Our youngest is 12 years. We are looking forward to meeting other members...

  9. When I joined FMCA a couple of years ago, it was because I wanted to be part of an organization that was geared toward motorcoaches. After having owned a few pull behinds, I had joined Good Sam's many years ago. But after I bought my coach, I needed an organization for my type of RV and joined FMCA. When I first heard of the proposal to change FMCA to allow non-motorhomes, I was very much opposed. I'm not a member of any FMCA chapters, and as a fulltimer I get the FMCA magazine online, but rarely look at it. So, it was late in the process when I heard about the change. I did my best to convince my fellow coach owning FMCA members to vote against the proposal to change the core meaning of the organization. And, for what it was worth, just about everyone I spoke with agreed with me that the change was a bad idea, and they also voted NO. Then the results of the vote came in. The numbers were shocking to me. Out of about ~71k members, only ~10k voted. Of the ~10k that voted, about 1/3 agreed with me. That is about 4% of the membership that was thinking like me. 4%. Let that sink in for a moment. Apathy is a sad thing, but those people who didn't vote had ample opportunity. They simply chose to not vote. Of the members who did vote, a resounding majority felt they wanted to change the direction of their club. It's not my club. I don't own it. I am just one member of the whole. So I came to the logical conclusion that the vast majority of the club I belong to wanted a change of direction. How can I be mad at what most of the active membership wants to do? I can't. I just accept it. I am still a part of this club, and this vote won't change that. I just had to accept that what the club decided to do was not what I was expecting, and just because it's not what I wanted, it's not the end of the world. So, I am over my mad. I'm not frothing at the mouth and stomping away in anger. I am at peace again. And I still have my F#, and will probably be joining a chapter soon.
  10. We are in the market to purchase a motor coach to live in for the next 2-4 years. If you had a budget of $185,000 what coach would you buy-- and why? Is there a downside to a tag axle 42'+? What are the most reliable or less reliable? Would you stay 40' and under as some suggest? What about a Class C Dynomax type Coach? Any response would be appreciated. I am very thorough and want to make sure I am not missing anything. Thanks Mark
  11. We are on our way to San Diego and in need of several repairs - mostly our slides/awnings and a bit of body work. Would like recommendations for honest shop that does good work and, hopefully, at a reasonable price. We live in our Class A 2008 Monaco Camelot 42 ft. Can anyone give us a hand? Thanks very much Paul and Donna
  12. Not sure if this is the correct place but I am interested in having someone redo all of the logos and pinstripes and art work on a coach should I purchase it. Not that I am a snob but I want the coach to be a representation of somethings and I cant pull a car thats all waxed and shined with a dull faded coach. I cant disrespect the coach like that. It is our home away from home. So this coach is in need of a "face-lift" as it wasn't covered and sat in the sun a good while because the owners were sick and couldn't take care of it. Provided I dont find anything horrible my family will take it off their hands because they need the money and we NEED a 38ft coach. Who would I go to to have this done and -------------- am i looking at a gagillion bucks to do it?
  13. All cargo doors on our 2004 Fleetwood Revolution 40' have come open while traveling. The doors are locked and tugged on before departure but one or sometimes two fly open. Much cargo has been lost. Any suggestions?
  14. We are heading toward the Grand Tetons without reservations at a campground. We're driving a 40 ft class A, towing a jeep. Any recommendations.
  15. I am 5 years short of retiring in the government after already retiring in the military (reserve). I often see websites for veterans to buy at discount prices, but don't really know if it is really a good deal. If I could start a forum for "The Beginner" to assist those people like myself to give them opportunity for buying a motorhome from start to finish it might also be helpful for the experienced RV owner. Including things such as size (does matter), horse power, amenities necessary (those veteran owners say they wish they included at the beginning), technical and communication support equipment, etc. I am grateful for any information you could provide. Thank you in advance. Jeff & Ingred.
  16. My insurance company said you can get a discount for an RV driver training course so I did some calling around. They are not cheap, on average $500 and one to two days. However, I called Lazy Days RV Center in Seffner FL and I got into the class called RV Driver Confidence Course taught by Bob Bergeran. It was a couple hours in the morning and then after lunch we went to the camp ground on the property and each student drove a 36 foot DP all around the campground using the tactics taught in the morning course. One of these was the DOT system they teach--involves measurement of your RV and placing small DOTs on the mirrors and windshield. All I can say is it is an amazing tool. The class size is small (10 students--8 that bought their RV at Lazy Days and 2 from outside) and the best part was it is FREE! I highly recommend this to anyone, new driver, man, woman, even old hands. I saw students that never drove an RV before wheel one around a campground like they knew what they were doing even with lots of expensive RVs and trucks and cars all around, parked and moving. If you get the chance DO IT!
  17. I have a DP with mud flaps behind rear wheels, a large, solid "dirt skirt" at the rear. I have a new tow car and a 2-bike rack. I purchased a Blue Ox KarGard (the solid vertical one). The bike tires and the KarGard limit my turning radius. I am wondering with the mud flaps and the dirt skirt do I really need the KarGard?
  18. We are going to buy a cover for our 36ft Horizon DP and wondered if anyone has had good/bad experiences that they can share? We are considering (so far) the Adco with Tyvek and the Polypro lll. Looks like the Adco is about $330 and the Polypro about $380. Would definitely consider others brands that have shown good durability. Thanks!
  19. I have a 2008 38' Damon Daybreak Class A Coach with the Ford Chassis. The Windshield Wiper Arm assembly, where it attaches to the wiper motor, has broken. Does anyone know where I can get the replacement part?
  20. Hi, We are new to the site and looking for some advice. My wife and I have been camping in tents – pop ups and travel trailers since the early 80’s. In the mid-2000’s we sold our travel trailer and said when we retire we would buy a Class A and hit the open roads. We are 5 years away from retirement and we would like to buy a RV now ($15K to $25K) and get back into camping/traveling again. Then when we retire we would sell this RV and buy something in the (75K-100K) and go fulltime on the road. Our questions for the RV that will take us to retirement or the next 5-years is? Would you buy an older diesel or newer gas model? We want to be 30 feet-plus in length. What are some good websites to shop used RV’s? What is the markup on used RV’s? If we are planning on spending 25K should we be looking at 30K in hopes the price is negotiable? What "make" can we get the best deal on? Is there a brand that they flooded the market with and maybe there are better deals on that make? I’m very handy and wouldn’t mind having to do improvements to the RV. I have done flooring, paint, upholstering in some of our other campers. Would you buy from a dealer or private party? Thanks Dale and Kris
  21. Having a problem starting1992 Gulf Stream Sun voyager Diesel Pusher. We first noticed a week start while camping in October, warm weather. The next time we tried to start it, it would crank but wore down the battery. This time we hooked it up to jumper cables and battery is maintaining a 13-14 volt charge, BUT when turning ignition, I may get 1-2 weak cranks, but then is followed by clicking noise from starter/solenoid, I think. I made repeated attempts over a period of an hour, the whole time with the voltmeter indicating full charge, but then all of a sudden, it stopped it's weak 1-2 cranks and clicking noise, and the voltmeter dropped almost to zero, and then after letting it sit for a few minutes, still being charged by jumper cables, the highest voltage indicated maybe 6-8, and dropping to about 2 or less when turning the key ... not even enough voltage to keep buzzer going for the key-ignition-on position. When I bought the RV, the owner had his first ever problem with it not starting during our test drive in May 2013. He had a new starter, solenoid, and voltage regulator put on at Kenworth Trucks here in St. Louis. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
  22. Hello, I am new here and new to the idea of a Class A motorhome. Married almost 48 years (ages 66 and 67), we have had every kind of camper, starting with a tent, then popup, have owned travel trailers and fifth wheels, as well as a couple of C class. We never kept any of them for extremely long periods of time, because we were still working and just couldn't seem to find time to use it "enough." At that time, we wanted a "camper." We have always said we would be interested in a motorhome when we are both retired. That is about to happen, and so we are in the market for a motorhome. We have a large home, and the motorhome will not replace our house. Our son and family just moved from us (MO) to Washington state, so we now have even more motivation for those road trips we love. All that to say, we will be traveling in it a lot but also will want to "live" in it for short periods of time (not so much "camping" at this point in time). We have just begun the research process and have about settled on a size (something we would feel comfortable driving, being new to this, and not wanting to start off towing a vehicle)--probably around 32 to 34 feet. We don't even know whether we should go gas or diesel. We will definitely want new, not used. I realize that a lot of decisions would be based on personal preference, but I would love to receive input. We have looked at several, and from what we have seen (have not looked at EVERYTHING out there), we are impressed with the Tiffin Allegro. But if anyone would take the time to give us some considerations, we would really appreciate it. Russell & Barbara
  23. Working at this for the past 5 years, so persistence does pay off. Left last week for the adventure of a lifetime! What a freeing experience getting rid of stuff (and we still have some room in our 400 sq ft home). Spent our first week just decompressing from the rigors of downsizing and preparing to leave. Find we spend a lot of time in the pool or just walking, and of course the occasional nap! Our adventure includes a 2000 American Tradition DP, 1999 VW Passat wagon, a 90 lb Chocolate Lab! Steve & Diana
  24. I have the darndest luck. I go to 31 flavors and find a flavor I like-They quit making it. I go to a fast food joint and find a burger I like, same thing. Try going to Red Robins and getting the same burger twice-Won't happen. All my Rving life I've dreamed of owning a high dollar Monaco-- I finally did it and got a 2006 HR and look what happened to Monaco. I hit a small post in a tight turn, can't get repair doors, I have had 2 body shops turn me down because it's a Monaco.

    Battery Tray

I have a 2006 Holiday Rambler, the other day I pulled the battery tray out to check the level of the fluids, whoever owned this unit before us put what appears to be baking soda in the trays to prevent corrosion I guess, I have heard of this working. Anyway has anyone tried to use the spray0n rubber liner like for P/U Beds?? It claims to be acid resistant and would sure look better than a tray full of white powder.
