Just Rejoined FMCA With A Towable

Recommended Posts

We have owned class A's and a class C over the years and vintage travel trailer towables we restored, a pop up, and 5th wheels.  Seeing FMCA open to towables, I joined.

But after reading some of the elitist comments made under the discussion topics about the vote for towable membership, I am having doubts about joining the group.  We are already Escapees and Life Good Sam members.  We have been full time in our orphan HitchHiker Champagne for almost 5 years now and had an RV of one type or the other since 1984.

With a long history of RV ownership of all types and sizes, I do not see such a great reason for such a division created by some people.  Many of the basic RV components are the same for towable and motorized and many of the problems are the same.

I do see that the forums do not have a section dedicated to 5th wheel or travel trailers.  Hopefully this will change.

We have seen an elitist attitude from certain brand owners, but not from a general group such as motorhome or pop ups or trailer owners.  We are one of the four couple that started the Texas Boomers RV Club which is not brand or type specific.  We all park together and have a great time together.

As for parking being an issue, I see an equal number of poor motorhome drivers and towable drivers.  They can't back, they cut corners and rut up sites with out discrimination to type of RV.

We chose a nice 5th wheel for our full time adventure over a motorhome for a number of reasons.

I will see how this goes over the next year and decide if I want to renew then.

Hmmmm..  You must of been one of those elitist that won't let me join the HitchHiker RV Club because I owned a Montana!  Of coarse I was a member of the Montana group that wouldn't let Hitchhiker RV join.  I was also a member of Corvette Club that wouldn't let a Dodge Viper join.  Guess there is a lot of elitist in the world!

Ken,

Welcome to the Forum. Please don't judge the Forum because there are no topics on towables. That will change as folks like yourself begin topics on them. We all know there will be a learning curve but heck we all are willing to learn.

Welcome to your new family.  We all will expect a card for us birthday. 🤗

I simply don't understand why anyone claims that saying towable should not be allowed has anything what-so-ever to do with elitism.  As has been mentioned like 1000 times is that this "club" WAS a club for owners of motor homes just like there are clubs for trailer and 5th wheel brand specific owners.  To say an RV is an RV is 100% incorrect.  To say an RVer is an RVer is 100% accurate.  This was 100% a discussion about the RV product and has nothing at all to do with the RV owner.

TXiceman.  Welcome back and to the Forum!

Not everyone, about 3,500, are not going to embrace you with open arms!  The Governance spoke and voted to allow the issue to be voted on by all members, the once (about 12%) who did vote it was about 3 to 1 favorable!  So, here we are and we have to agree with the majority!  I voted no...not because I'm a "elitist", I have a coach, not a TT.  Nothing against TT's, my best friends all have Fifth!  In the campground that's where the party is at, my 45 footer has about half the living area that they have....I'm ready to party when you are!

Have a great Christmas and a healthy New Year:)

Thanks for the welcome.  CWSWINE, Only had the HH since 2014 and they welcome SOB 's (some other brand) with no problems.  I guess they had to after they stopped production.  I think Excel was the same way.

I was a moderator and also a site administrator on iRV2.com for several years and the one issue we constantly had with the vendor specific forums (which I was apposed to) was some people only wanted to post in their brand forum and would get mad if we moved a generic post to a more generic discussion group to get more responses.  We finally gave up and just let them post where they wanted and only moved the ones that were obviously in the wrong forum.

But peoples lifestyle change and they may move up or down in size, from a towable to a motorized unit or motorized to towable.  Just because of the change they should not have to disassociate themselves from one group of friends to be with another.  We like meeting and discussing all sorts of lifestyles and types of RVs.

Does FMCA still issue the FMCA oval?  I guess it will be a cause for discussion if I get one.

When we come off the road full time, and get a resident again, we will probably look for a smaller motorhome for shorter trips.

Ken, the "Goose Egg" is the same, just not aluminum anymore.  Kwikki is still doing FMCA logos so you can get whatever from them, including mounting hardware.

Anyone who had a F#, before the vote, and got a TT could join as a FMCA member with a A#, bunch of the floating around, no discussion needed. :)

Ah! The early days.  I'm still a member and an sign in to the Montana Owners Club. I guess once in, always in. I go back and check it every once in a while. KO4A is a good friend of mine.

Ken, this is KE5QG, and also a member of the TXBoomers.  Earlene and I were just looking at the 2018 schedule to see if we could fit into on of the rallies. Still working on it.

Also a member of iRV2 and the RVMutant group.

We don't care who parks next to us as long as they are friendly. if they are not friendly we just ignore them.

An old saying of mine, "It doesn't matter what you camp in, you are having just as much fun!"

73's

p.s., everyone. Read the last line under my signature.

Live with it. If you don't like it change it. If you can't change it don't whine about it. (Hmmm! I just came up with another line)

Welcome back Ken, welcome back.

Hey Wayne.  glad to hear from you.  We will be in Tomball for a few months, as Susan is getting her other knee replaced in January.  We plan to make the Boomers Valentine Rally.

Ken,

Welcome to the Forum.

Tomball is just a short distance from our house.  So, if you need help with anything please feel free to ask.

Merry Christmas!

I didn't know we were all so close together.  When we are in TX we hang out at the Northlake RV park near Spring.

From my house, Brett and Wayne are about 30 minutes, Spring, Tomball and Conroe is about 90 minutes, unless I have my "dumb hat", on and try to go at 9am or 4pm! :)  Elkheartjim and WBill, Herman, that's half a day or longer! :P
